This is easily the biggest thing to happen in my lifetime (22). I didn’t want to write anything yesterday because I was pretty emotional.
I can’t really compare it to the world wars because I haven’t experienced any. I asked my Grandfather about it and he says it’s worse than anything he saw in the War (World War 2) when he was in the airforce.
I then wanted to get another perspective so I asked my dad about it. He also said it’s the worse thing he has seen and this was surprising as he served in a brutal war in Vietnam.
The fact that makes it so horrible is innocent people were attacked. If it were in a combat situation it would have been less surprising and thus the shock we are experiencing now would have been lessened.
The people behind this attack are beyond reason. The worrying thing is that the people who harbored them could have also had a hand in it. It was that carefully planned, the logistics involved and the training of pilots meant that there was state intervention.
I can understand they base their hatred on religious grounds. As I am Irish Catholic, I understand through the events in Ireland and Northern Ireland that religious hatred is a very powerful motive. But this attack was too far because it involved people who have nothing to do with the actions of the American Government.
The people who did these crimes must be sought and punished. I don’t really listen to what Bush says but he is right here. Like Vietnam, the enemy is relatively unknown (they can hide so easily) so it makes it hard to find these criminals. I believe that anyone who harbors them should be also to blame as well.
It has also changed my opinion on how I feel about Arabs. Maybe I am a closet racist but the actions of a minority have reflected badly on their race. It’s wrong to blame an entire race for these actions but their religion and hatred of countries has forced me to think like this.
If they celebrate this action and still defend their race's actions because of this religious hatred, then they don't belong here.
