Since Neil Craig took over as coach, in 6 games the Crows have had:

  • 3 of their lowest 20 ever scores
  • Their 2nd highest score conceded
  • Their greatest losing margin
  • 2 of their 7 lowest combined score matches (right up there with the lightning match v Carlton, and the howling gale at Footy Park v Hawthorn in 1998).

By contrast, under Ayres, in 106 games, the Crows produced

  • Only 1 of their lowest 20 ever scores (first final vs Brisbane in 2002)
  • One of the top 10 scores conceded, 3 of the top 20
  • Only 2 of their top 20 greatest losing margins

INCLUDING the Melbourne game, the average score under Craig has been 72.5 points per game. The last side to average fewer than that for a season were Melbourne, wooden spooners in 1997 (67 points per game). Before that, and Fitzroy in 1996 (66 points per game), you have to go back to South Melbourne in 1972 to find an attack as anaemic as ours under Craig.

EXCLUDING the Melbourne game, the average score under Craig has been 58 points per game. The last team to average so little in a season were Footscray (won 4, lost 14) and Fitzroy (won 1, lost 17) in 1966.

all very telling stats which doesnt look good for Craig, but you have to put them into perspective! he isnt exactly over loaded with cattle is he, and he is playing a few kids before their time!

dont get me wrong, i dont think Craig should be the AFC coach in 2005 and beyond, however he isnt the worst of the candidates...

Craig has certainly laid some records down for the club, all of them unwanted! :D

That's an atrocious record no matter what way you want to try and put a spin on it. On ya bike Craig

ch 9 running a promo for tonights news, saying there is speculation the Crows may have already found Ayres' successor! haven't Rucci, McDermott et al been saying that for months???

The facts are though, that that's the cattle he's got. The same cattle that Ayres had for his tenure for the first 13 games this year. Craig has to get them scoring somehow, and the fact that he can't is not a good audition for the job he seeks.

Of the players that Craig doesn't have at his disposal right now, only Mark Stevens and to a lesser extent Trent Hentschel provide any potential firepower. With all due respect to the likes of Doughty, the rest are fringe players.

Frightening stuff. Nothing to be proud of there.

In regards to cattle, yes injury and suspensions have caused a few headaches. However Craig's team selections have not been that sharp. The Brisbane game was a great example - no strong options up forward (Hudson, Perrie) and when Welsh didnt come up what did we do? Bring in a midfielder (Ladhams) and throw Watts in the deep end.

I have a feeling that it might be Eade rather than Craig they are referring to, happily. He has certainly been putting up a good show lately, and the spin from that news headline suggests it comes from outside the club - after all, the speculation was that the job was Craig's, for them to suddenly make this mystical projection that the Crows have found their man suggests its outside the club - after all, they've already 'found' Craig, and he was fool's gold.

Thats the point, Ayres had basically the same cattle, was more structured and attractive in his gamestyle, and was rarely flogged.

Craig has us scragging and playing defensive footy - as soon as he reverts to his free flowing style, we get flogged.

Lets not forget the draw. How did Ayres go in the corresponding games against these clubs:

Fremantle -lost
Brisbane - lost
Saints- lost
Kangas - lost

Ayres didn't have as mayn kids playing either.

So lets keep things in perspective.

Other than the Brisbane game we have been competitive which has been good and Craig has put a very brave face on things to the media which I applaud. I think he has handled himself really well.

The main reason I don't want Craig as coach personally is that we need a change of environment at the Club and some new ideas. Some players need to come out of their comfort zones.

Craig as a coach hasn't been as bad as some are making out.

Both 7 and 9 stated that a decison on the Coach's job may be made within a week.

Eade was in town today for another inetrview. Reports suggest its out of Eade, Craig and O'Donnell.

GO ROCKET! :)

You should never trust the media.

I have it on good authority that Crows are speaking to a couple of candidates that have NOT been mentioned in the media. Can't confirm any names.

There are a couple out of left field.

.

True Stiffy - but you also know those two don't really have any chance of getting the main gig. Don't you?? ;)

Let's be honest, you also know as well as I do that there's only 2 genuine chances for the job. Craig and Eade.

I hope to hell that Eade presented well today - if they listened attentively, the AFC might have actually had exposure to a winning game-plan for the first time in many years.

That's a furphy.

The kids who played first time round under Ayres:

Vs Kangaroos: Reilly, Hentschel
Vs Brisbane: Reilly, Hentschel, Schuback
Vs Freo: Reilly, Hentschel, Hudson, Schuback
Vs Saints: Hentschel, Hudson, Schuback, Jericho

Last weekend, Craig played 4 kids - Bock, Jericho, Hudson, Reilly.

Other than the Kangas game first time round, we were competitive in Rounds 1-4 as well, and Ayres put a very brave face to the media.

I agree with that.

I just saw Eade on the newsbreak (only a shot of him walking through the airport) He looked very smug indeed!!!!!!
As much as I am a Craig fan I would be happy if eade gets the job.
I think he thinks he has :p

what newsbreak was that? will it be on the late news?

i wouldnt say out of left field after what the blues have been saying in the media lately with some of their senior staff coming out and saying that he is over paid and might not be what their club needs, he wouldnt go to the bulldogs because they cant afford him, with wallace pretty much a shoe in at richmond and i dont think denis would coach hawthorn its just a feeling i have! that leaves us, we coiuld afford him, he isnt bad at rebuilding teams look what he has done to carlton but my main concern with him is that he would bring in too many middle aged recruits for some instant success like he is trying to at carlton. has one year to run on contract but the blues will get rid of him if they can!

Channel 7, and I doubt they will run it later as it was only a 3 second shot. No interview or talking whatsoever, Just a voice over saying his presentation went for 3 hours

I never said that I did trust the media.

Like who? Simon Tregenza for an assistiant coaching gig?

Eade certainly appears keen - was apparantly willing to disclose information about his game plans, philosophy, etc ... unlike another coach who was neer going to come to Adelaide. Sounds like he is leaving no stone unturned in convincing the panel that he is the man for the job.

Stiffy_18 said:
No its not Denis Pagan. His name has been mentioned in the media.

I don't think its Tregenza either. There is someone but I am not quite sure who.

its paul hamilton! assistant coach at Kangaroos, rated highly by many!

I think there has been a development or 2 since then. I am reading between the lines here
