Well, you now have our most-loved coach and close to our most-loved star.

I think you now have the best coach this game has seen. He is very aggressive, as you'll soon realise.
It comes with a caveat, though, because when he loses the plot he seriously derails everything around him. (e.g. 2006 and 2010 at Geelong). But when he's relaxed, he can coach like no other.

That is, when he's munching on a salad roll or lying apex-wise in the box, he's the best coach in the game. The sight of him almost going to sleep against the Kangas made me think that the old Bomber is back, and his team will take some stopping.

As for Chapman, I now understand why fans of other teams hated him. (but we did right thing regardless)

I think Essendon is in for one hell of an exciting ride this year.

Thanks.

Word to the wise, the coach was just on loan.

"Best coach this game has seen."

Goldfish memory.

IMO only, Bomber is a serious upgrade on anything we've had since Sheedy in the early 2000's. I felt Hird was a bit too attached to his plan, too inflexible to change it, blind faith if you will when things started going pear shaped. Bomber changes the course of the game with positional moves & tactics. For example, Lindsay Thomas was the only Roos forward to make a meaningful impact so Bomber switches Hardingham back, a better match up, despite Hardy kicking 2 goals himself up forward. I don't believe Hird makes that move because of the state of the game (being well in front & Hardy 2 goals). The spare man situation that the Roos were implementing, in the past, we've blazed away, handing possession back but on the weekend, we were much more patient with the ball. Hird sticks with his setup for too long before changing it up, Bomber recognises a problem area and fixes it. I have no doubt we have one of the best coaches in the game at the helm right now & Chappy gives us something we haven't had since the Bewick/Mercuri days, a dangerous, smart small forward who not only kicks goals but creates others by smart play. A dangerous combo it is.

What a weird response. Each to their own I guess,
Who is that aimed at?

Make no mistake. Essendon supporters, to a man and woman, are stoked that Bomber is at the club. He is one of the best coaches of the modern era, and it is abundantly obvious why Geelong supporters will regard him with such affection, for it was he who was the helm when the Cats finally broke their big drought.

As a triple premiership player, premiership captain and terrific player in general, he is held in very high esteem at Essendon too.

He is a legend of both Essendon and Geelong. But calling him the best ever might be getting just a little over excited.

But I am happier than Larry on his happiest day that he is the man now at Essendon.

I love how open he is at question time, he's so relaxed!
Maybe the fact that it's not his squad makes it easier for him to relax and coach well?

This one always gets a giggle out of me. As did the corresponding game.

As for greatest coach, certainly not, but I'd argue that alongside Clarkson and perhaps Roos he's the best of his generation. Maybe better because the foundation was then there for C. Scott to not change a whole heap and pick up that third flag.

Wonder if Bomber will change his mind and coach full time.
IMO it depends on, firstly if Hird comes back as senior coach, and secondly if he gets back that desire to coach that he once had, he may well have been finished as a coach, but circumstances may just get him back to the position he is best suited to (coaching).

I think right now, Bomber is enjoying that it is a 'short term' gig.. keeping him relaxed, calm..

All the 'hard' work is done.. they have the list, they are primed, there is a game plan model.. what a great time to coach.. oh and he is a GREAT coach but not THE greatest.
