Today's news:

Melbourne Victory will announce VIS high performance manager Ernie Merrick as coach on Monday.

Sydney FC have appointed 300 game NSL veteran Andy Harper as chief executive.

Central Coast have signed two former Northern Spirit strikers: Stuart Petrie, 33, and Adam Kwasnik, 21.

Any more word on whats going on with Petit, Baggio, Giacomazzi,Christian,Luizao and Montano?

Are there any other decent overseas players being linked to a move into the APL?

Apparently Queensland have signed another Korean (according to The World Game), Seo Jung-Won. Both Koreans are 34 years old.
Seo also has some European experience, he spent time with Strasbourg in France.

Updated with Melbourne a cert to announce Ernie Merrick as gaffer on Monday. Also Adam Kwasnik to the Coasties.

Seems as though the big squads, AUFC, SFC, CCFC and NUJFC have maxed out at the moment, perhaps waiting to 'fill out' when the January transfer window (Euro) sorts itself out.

As for Melbourne, there are still some quality players out there, and Perf have plenty of spots on their roster.

IMO, of the players signed so far, we will see a pretty high standard of football next season. The old NSL had flashes of great play, so even if we used the same players as last season but with 5 fewer clubs, logic says the standard would improve. With some clubs enticing players to return from O/S, I think those that gave up on the NSL and are returning to the A-L will be pleasently surprised (or Euro-snobs who only follow the EPL). It also makes a difference when there are 10-20,000 people cheering in the stands. Football for mine responds when the fans create atmosphere.

I don't think it is as simple as that. EM coached some very good youngsters at the VIS, including Bresciano, Grella, Colosimo, Viduka etc. He is not a complete numpty, and he is the only coach in Australia to hold a UEFA 'B' badge.

He will build a side from the ground up, one that MV are hoping will be competitive at the beginning, but go on to dominate as it matures. Think the differences between Port Adelaide and Adelaide's entry into the AFL. If he names an experienced coach as his assistant, he can address what you see as his major flaw, lack of experience at the top level.

Time will tell, but I think it is a gutsy move by MV. Expect players he has had dealings with at the VIS like Kristian Sarkies to sign before Christmas.

how much of big idiots are melb victory they picked a coach who hasnt coach for 10 years and they leave out a coach who won a championship 4 years ago

I agree, poor choice really considering they had nick theo who is proven and has won it all at national league level with the wolves and taken parra to the grand final. Hope sarkies comes back to south.

BRAZILIAN soccer player Fernando Rech is coming home to Brisbane

Perhaps not - SBS said last night that Rech has had an offer from Juventude in the Brazilian first division and he may sign for them instead.

My issues with the league and team aside I must say that the Victory can't afford to build from scratch and hope to be a top team in a few seasons. If they don't capture a slice of this action in the city immediately they'll struggle to do it in the future.

Just what I'm thinking/hoping... Theoretically the least best players in the A/L should be the 'medium' players from the NSL. And yes, crowds make a huge difference to how the football looks.

A couple of updates to the squads from todays World Game. For the Queensland Lions, Jordan & Tyler Simpson have signed from St. George, but Fernando Rech has apparently not signed joining Juventude in the Brazilian First Division instead. Ufuk Talay has signed for Sydney FC according to his manager.

Rumours from a source in Adelaide about the players Kossie might sign, keeping in mind we have only signed one (1) U/20 player in Matricciani:

AIS Keeper Nick Crossley and Enfield City Falcons (SASF) defender Robbie Cornthwaite (both U/20) are two of the very few U/20's on Kosmina's training squad (). With the requirement to sign 3 U/20 players, this leaves us with 16 from 20 slots taken. The para 2 below explains #17.

Midfielder Russell Waller from Enfield City is not U/20, and is heading over to the UK in the new year to try his luck.

Damien Mori has alegedly bought out his contract at Adelaide City and former City great and ex Green Gully gaffer Joe Mullen has been appointed coach in his absence....freeing him up to be signed by AUFC.

So, 17 from 20, leaving 3 players to be signed. If we were to get one or all of Dodd or Porter or Fyfe (rumoured to be interested in returning)........*shrugs*

If he's going to sign an Enfield player he should sign me.

Bradford Park Avenue's finest.. He was a gun for me in Football Manager 05 before I skulked off to manage Rushden.

Very interesting news re Mori, the club are making a real go at signing Dodd & Porter as well. If we could get all 3 of them our attack would be quite potent.
