Greetings plebs & welcome to A Swallow's Coin Laundry.
Despite the swathes of useless media and statistical analysis that plague the SFA boards, something has always been missing.
Until now.
Some call them assists, some call them dimes, some call them contributions. Whatever you know them as, the lead-up play/set-up to a goal is certainly as important as the goal itself, and at times arguably more impressive.
So this thread is for the Mesut Ozil's, the John Stockton's, the Robbie Gray's, the Wayne Gretzky's (well, sort of). The playmakers, the architects, the choreographers.
My team of intelligence analysts will assess the SFA matches on a weekly basis, and highlight those who directly assist in the most goals across the league, both week-by-week and overall. I will also post most assists sorted by team as well, to provide an insight into the sides that work well as a unit, and those that potentially rely more upon opposition error or individual brilliance.
The criteria for an assist is simple: it will be awarded to the player whose disposal or hit-out directly results in a goal to their teammate. Situations where the ball was kicked/hand-balled to a contest and/or the mark attempt was spoiled will NOT count - even if the forward goes on to score - due to more work being required by that player to generate the goal. Obviously there is some grey at times in the simulated text, and in those instances my team of highly trained analysts will make a call on whether to award the assist or not.
