Geelong are in the same boat, except we have collected a bunch of developing tall forwards. McCarthy, Playfair, Lonergan and soon we will have Blake and maybe N. Ablett. If you happen to have read any newspapers of late it also seems we are trying to get every forward in the AFL via trade.

Bradley or Chaplin would be nice, we need an up and coming KP backman, but given the teams with picks before us I can't see them dropping to 7. Personally I think we would be better off with a Clarke or Tenance instead of another KP player. Any chance of one of these four dropping to 7?

Yes we have a lot of developing talls Unwritten_Law but take a hard look at them. Many of our talls are either re-cycled players like Kingsley, Mooney, Finnin, Girgic, and Harley or were drafted with selections above pick 20 like McCarty, Playfair, Chambers, Gardnier, Foster, Scarlett, Street, and Lonegan. Its the old saying quality not quantity. Drafting KPP this way is very unreliable and inconsistant. Just look at the ratio we have. We need to draft a quality Key back or forward with that pick if we can. Obviously if a Tenance is still available then we should select him but if Caplain or Bradely are available then we should pick them up

7 Geelong – Troy Chaplin (VIC)
Geelong has been searching for a KPP player with presence. Chaplin could be their solution. He can play at either end and dominated games at the under 18 championships.

I like the sound of this bloke and would be very happy to see him in the hoops next year ;)

Morrison hasn't played all year.

So

1. I have never seen him play, therefore can't really assess.

2. No AFL club recruitng staff would have seen him play so to take him the first round would be a pretty big punt.
He was a standout last year and was well know to all recruiting managers and has been assessed since his injury. Will go to the draft camp and like McVeigh last year if he does well then he should be a genuine 1st rounder.

Like the Doc, I will be devasted if the Dogs pick a MF with pick 4.
I didn't quite read his post that way, rather I think he was saying we dont need another skinny outside midfielder with an early selection.
Wanted talls but would also be happy with some of the bigger bodied in and under midfielders.

Lamb, Broadbridge, Ferguson, Carroll, Rivers, Miller, Molan, Rodgers....

How many developing talls do Melbourne need?

They might not have any tall defenders now but in a couple of years they'll have them by the bucketloads.

I wouldnt expect Lamb and maybe even Broady to be there next year and Miller, Molan and Rodgers are forwards.

Fair efforts there.

I don't think Farren Ray will be picked up at number 4 though - will probably go 10-15, and I'd like us to pick him up in front of Moody if both are around.

Moody is good, but seems to be just a fraction to small to make an impact as a KPP. We already have Haynes in that mould, so I don't see the point to have two in the one squad.

And I'd like to get Beau Waters with our second pick at around 28......I think he should stick around till then, and if he is, I'd take him in a second. Gun guy. How tall is he??

Just a question on Farren Ray.

Is he a natural right footer? Apparently he is, but at the Championships he was kicking off his left 90% of the time, and was more often than not hitting targets.

As for Melbourne, we would be CRAZY to overlook McLean at #3. We don't need Kepler Bradley, and I have faith in Miller and Smith as our CHF prospects, so that rules out Watts.

I also forgot Smith.
He is a CHF. He is too slow to play as a key defender.

But I do agree with you. We don't need to recruit many more talls.

Tenace is the perfect fit for Melbourne if you are looking for someone with good skills, terrific pace and endurance and a Stephen Powell type work ethic

He'll go at #2.

Everything I have read seems to indicate that the talent is thin on the ground (as opposed to previous seasons). Hence I still think Essendon are going to go a different way.

Yes, I think we will get Sylvia, along with Josh Madden via father/son, but, from there, Sheedy might just play it safe and get Haynes, Johns, Hall and Toby McGrath off the rookie list and throw Nathan Lovett-Murray in as the other recruit.

What chance has Lachlan Smith got of getting drafted? He would have to be the best player in the APS.

Interesting one. Xavier always seem to get one bloke drafted, so I guess it might be him!

The interesting thing about Smith is he has played onball for Xavier, but when he has played for the Dragons has played in defence.

I liked his game in the APS v AGS match - he has very clean hands, something you like to see.

At 186cm and 76kg he is a good size once he hits the weights. I think he could be a late selection or rookie list.

You went to the match?

How did that big Xavier full forward go (Rush?) ? He would have to weigh 105kg that kid.

Lamby that's interesting because i think his left foot is quite average, he just used it at every opportunity to show the scouts he can kick left-footed. Played the carnival nicely into his hands did young Farren.

That explains it. I hope we don't pick him up with either pick 3 or pick 5 though. There are better players available.

I think Fergus Watts will go top 10...

He goes to my shcool...his brother is pretty good also

Essendon will want Dyson at #11. Sylvia will go to Punt Road. For those ****ers that think Tenace will stay past #2 then dream on.

Bozza i think the field is that close this year that it will ultimately come down to how people perform at the draft camp. You can basically throw a blanket over the top 20, even top 30 and then it's basically a lottery.

Overall I think it's quite a strong draft, just no appearing ready made superstars and lack of key position players. Other than that i feel it is quite decent.

WA will be in with a fair show this year my instincts tell me
