Stevo for club champion in 2002!

Well finally the boys got another win on the board! It wasn't a great game, although I always felt we were in control, even though St Kilda were not far away at no time did I think we would loose the game.

It is amazing what happens when you get two of your best experienced players back. Both Stevens & Smart both proved how valuable they are. Stevens gave us a marking option up forward and even when he doesn't get the ball himself the way he brings the ball to the ground, his second efforts and his defensive skills are unquestionable. His 3.2 could easily have been 5 goals but I am just happy he got through the game unscathed. A great effort by him. Smarty also stepped straight back into the form he had in the early part of the season. His attack on the ball is terrific. Then when he switched to the forward line, he made a mark there aswell. He even got to kick a goal and actually it should have been two as he missed a fairly easy shot at goal. Great to see these two back as they are vitally important to our side. With a little luck next week against the Bullcraps we will also have McLeod & Stinga back which will be a big bonus for us aswell. I am led to believe that Sugar will be another week on the sidelines. when we get all the lads back it will fantastic!

Congratulations to Marty Mattner who had a terrific second game. I always think that you get a better reflection of a player on there second game because usually they are very nervous and excited in there first games. Marty is fearless and I see a real future for him. Brent Reilly didn't get a lot of game time, but he appeared to be a fairly reasonable player. We had 3 teenagers playing for us last night (Johncock 19, Mattner 19 & Reilly 18). I don't think we have had that for a long time. Plus if you add Gallagher, Ladhams & Shir who are all under 22 I think. We had a very young side out there. Which made winning even better.

Interesting to see the boys appeared to be a bit disapointed in letting St Kilda back into the game. Smarty had the boys in a conference in the middle of the ground for a while after the game. Also they didn't allow cameras into the rooms to hear them sing the song. I usually enjoy listening and seeing the boys belt out the winning tune.

A huge game against the Bullcraps this week, we need to win again just to keep us out of the reach of the other clubs who are aiming for our position on the ladder.

Goodluck Crows!!!!

Couldn't believe my ears when I was driving home after the game, listening to the wrap-up by KG, Cornes and Rowey.

Firstly, they gave Matthew Clarke BOG??? Which game were they watching? Even Cornsey had to admit he was surprised when he found out Clarke only had about 2 marks; can't imagine what he thought Clarke did on the night. I didn't think he was that great in ruck - watching the replay today, you would have to say a lot of his taps went either to St Kilda players or onto the ground. Bodey/Edwards had to be BOG by miles.

Also the person sitting next to me agreed it was disappointing to lose % by letting the Saints kick those last 4 goals. But someone daring to say the same thing on radio was called "an idiot"! The next thing you hear is Ayres' saying at his press conference that he was disappointed with the loss of %.

There was a third thing, but I've forgotten what it was. But that's enough to go on with for now.

The win wasn't as convincing as most hoped, but the Saints were determined all night (we were able to put on a few goals in a rush to break the game open). Getting 4 points & the performances of our youngsters on a night where probably 4 of our better midfielders (ie. McLeod, Riccuito, Johnson & Stenglein) had no or little influence on the outcome of the game to injury. However, this week against the doggies, we will need our experienced midfielder back - McLeod & Stinger should be OK, but Johnson is still likely to be out (along with Welsh). A couple of unlucky players will probably have to be dropped.

Memo to Gary Ayres - Bassett is better in defence. Only play him in attack if we are really struggling for a forward.

I reckon Bassett would be under a bit of pressure to hold his spot, he was sensational at the start of the year but has really struggled over the last month or so and seems to be getting really frustrated.

His dummy spits are classic :p

I'd love to see a highlight reel of Bassett's best dummy spits. It'd be an entertaining watch for sure :D

Didn't have one of his best games, but was OK the previous week against Collingwood. No chance of him getting dropped this week or in the forseeable future.

His form has levelled off a bit, but he has been still OK rather than sensational like he was earlier. I agree that he needs to concentrate more on his footy that his Oscar for best freak-out at the umpire (I mean it's not like they are going to reverse their wrong decision).

He was tireless, as I said on another thread, he copped one which took the wind out of him in the second quarter i think but provided a great contest alnight taking a goal saving mark in front of the members

Edwards Bode were best but Clarke was right up there
