It wasn't interrupted. That's the whole problem; It should have been.
Look at his game against Sydney at the SCG. A ******* joke that he was playing in that game and IIRC that was the game we dropped Josh Simpson to emergency for.

Mayne didnt train with the main group pretty much the entire preseason. He had a back injury and was on a modified program for a decent part of the main season.

He kicked 17 goals (over half) in his first 7 games and average 0.7 contested marks for the 2013 season.
Fair points in the above post and Ill admit both, I probably saw more of his better games and also I hadnt checked his stats, so I was relying on memory. Just to be clear though, what I am saying is that it would take something like Crozier and our first pick to make Black coming to Freo a reality. What's the point of discussing a trade like De Boer and a seocnd pick which has zero chance of occuring?

What about having a go at Schoenmakers?

Most people's issue with Mayne wasn't his effort level/fitness, it was that he is 1/6th of our forward line and he only kicked 13 goals in 24 games. How does missing preseason effect his kicking accuracy considering that we do very little goal kicking drills at training in the first place?

Good forwards don't chase; They get chased. You don't tackle if you've got the ball.

Look at the stats, yes his accuracy was down BUT he had far too few shots at goal. Missing preseason would affect that and I've no doubt he played under duress for the majority of the first half of the season. All up though was a big drop off.

Stevie Wonder could see that.
The Sydney game stands out for me. First the shock of Josh Simpson being dropped and then to endure watching Mayne moving like Walter Brennan.
It is an indictment on the club that Chris Mayne was considered fit to play in that game. Hell, even round one against Collingwood he was labouring.

Yeah I realize all that but to be honest I'm not sure Simpson was the one to come in for Mayne against the big-bodied Swans. I'm responding to the fact posters are going on about his accuracy and that was not the big issue.

Not talking about his accuracy. It was his fitness; he was clearly lame and if not Josh , then any other player would have been better value.

They brought Waite in because they feel the window is wide open, fair enough, but Black wont get a game before him or Petrie.

I bet Black wishes he signed with us last year, after playing in the seconds for a few weeks.
That assumes Waite plays much of the season if at all.

The current mood of our recruiters must be taken into consideration when it comes to trading with other clubs for players .
The Club has been very quiet during trade week so far and the feeling I'm getting is that they won't give away any of our draft picks so if anyone is talking up anyone to get on our list they maybe very disappointed .
Bond and co must have someone spotted a player or players in the draft that they believe are a better proposition than those on the trade table is all I can think of .
This is only my feelings but there must be a KPP that Lloyd and Bond are prepared to take in the first round and I think it must be McGovern .

At Taberner's age, Black had actually produced less. You can take Black's 2013 and say it was a good year ... but that is like the equivalent of Taberner's 2016. I don't think Taberner is going to be a star, but I think there is a good chance he ends up better than Black (whom I must be one of the few to think is overrated).

I know we don't want to keep waiting forever, and we want someone to produce in 2015 ... but I don't think Black would be much of an improvement on what we've got (short or long term). It's easy to remember Taberner's horror finals, but if we can get him back to the last few rounds of the season (plus natural improvement curve) ... I reckon he'd offer just as much as Black would in 2015.

You know what... If taberner could take a contested mark, I would be really excited.... But he reminds me so much of ash Hansen.... That I'm holding myself back from any excitement. Not saying he won't be much better than that average plodder, but at the moment that's who he reminds me of. Anyone else think the same? If he can start taking contested marks... He might start looking like Saint Nic in which case I will need tissues to clean myself up during every game

I know what you're saying but I think he can develop his marking as he gains confidence. The Reiwoldt comparisons are a bit unfortunate; truth is if he's 60% the player he'll give us good value. I certainly like the fact that he and Apeness are different sorts of players.

He has on occasion used his body very effectively when marking the ball, using his hips to bump off the defender while keeping his arms free. He has the ability, just needs to develop the consistency.

He'd have to be one of the KPP options, along with Kersten, Schoenmakers and maybe Grimley. Throwing a few others out of left field when you look at the West Aussies playing over east, you've got Tayte Pears, Tom Derickx, Angus Litherland and Nathan Grima. Ignoring contract status and availability, it's not a great list of names to work with, but maybe there's someone of value there.

You'd have to think Membrey is too small to pursue as a KPP - perhaps as a third tall option if Mayney's long-term future is down back?

Sorta late to the party, but Nathan Grima is from Tassie. :p

Or we don't have any space on our list and have been unable to trade out fringe players.

There hasn't been any hard evidence that we have been involved in trying to get any deals done .
We were interested in Frawley but with him nominating Hawthorn as his chosen club we dropped out of the race very quickly .
We have space in our salary cap but we didn't offer anyone on our list or draft picks to sweeten the trade so how was that going hard , it wasn't .
Bond and Lloyd are keeping their powder dry and staying with the players we've got unless they are working very quietly on a deal behind closed doors .
Our fringe players are tradable but they have not offered any so far .

I've liked this because I agree with the Ash Hansen comparison but I don't actually like it : (

Frawley would have told us if we had a chance, if not it did not matter what we offered it was not a trade but FA. For years we have given up good ( b graders ) players for shit. Let's hope we stay fit next year and back the players we have. Yes a KPP Would have been good but do we really want trade a good b grader for a shit tall.

No obviously not but Hawthorn have shown everyone that if you want a particular player to fill a hole in your best 22 then you need to offer the other Club a better deal that they were expecting . You also need to be talking to that players manager at least 2 years before you put an offer on the table rather than when a press statement is made that the player wants to leave . By that time the player and the Club he wants to go to have already done the deal and the rest is history . We have gone after a number of players over the years and have landed very few and 2 were absolute lemons .We turned one into a backman ,Tarrent . The others Croad and Anthony , one left the other was plain useless .
