Hey folks, I had an interest about the demolition progress of the Old Perth Entertainment Centre, the ugliest building I have ever seen

And I happened to stumble on one of the coolest blogs ever seen for abandoned Perth Buildings

The photography on this Blogsite is amazing, but warning, some people might very well be creeped out with the subject matter and what goes on in some of these buildings

Be ready to be creeped out!

The cream of the cake in terms of scariest buildings in Perth: The Abandoned Fremantle Power Station aptly titled Fremantle's Best Tourist Attraction

All of this underlines what a problem it has been for Western Australia for its planning and infrastructure, historically.

Personally I dont know why its so hard to demolish these abandoned buildings, just see how they do it here

When going in to town to get tickets for the Eagles/Cats game a few weeks ago I went over the footbridge near the old ent cent, they've taken a lot of it out already. I really wanted to see all the backstage area and the way up stage before it got knocked down considering the caliber of acts that played there over the years.

I want to know why its so hard to demolish buildings like the Perth Entertainment Centre? Press of a button - yo?!?!?! It doesnt take 5 months to demolish a building, when it only takes 5 seconds. Granted Perth citizens will more than likely complain about the dust for a while, but the Perth denizens always wanted to open up the Perth CBD to Northbridge.

Although... chances are the new Perth Arena - and its future plans associated with that structure will be going down the toilet as well, you shouldnt doubt that with the way the city of Perth handles things. I mean just look at the Farce associated with the Perth Shared Services Centre- >

Or how Perth city was left with a hole in the ground for many years in the Westralia Square complex before it eventually got its act together

They've made a similarly lengthy effort of demolishing the old Harris Scarfe building here in Adelaide. To be fair, it's right in the middle of the CBD and is surrounded by other buildings, so they couldn't just blow it up, but it seems to have taken a very long time for them to finally pull it all down once they had started.

The plan is for it to eventually look like this from the Grenfell St side:

That's a great site. There used to be a couple of buildings in and around Melbourne's CBD like that. On what is now the site of the VCA/MTC theatre used to be the old Tesltra maintenance building, which was a massive series of interconnecting buildings that took up an extended city block. There was an old cinema inside, massive cranes, and it even had it's own series of roads. All inside this massive structure.

The really creepy one was an old orphanage in South Melbourne. I went in there one night many years ago before they pulled it down. It was so creepy, you could almost feel the ghosts lining up to scare the crap out of you.

I love the comment about the mental hospital where they heard crying and scratching in a room and fled.

Another guy said "dude that was just pigeons that roost in the building". :D

can't believe there is a whole stadium just sitting in the middle (??) of Perth that is being unused.

The old Entertainment center from the Northbridge side looks like a scene from Fallout 3

Anyways, last friday, incredibly drunk, i realised the place right now half demolished would make an epic rave party, tried to climb it, but felt ill jumping over the fence, let alone scaling up destroyed staircases

perth seems to have a lot of abandoned buildings... maybe i just don't really notice them around sydney and melbourne

How about the abandoned marine park with the concrete statue of Poseidon?

The guy's writing was pretty funny too. Twas a good site.

I've explored some abandoned buildings in Perth. An old power station in Coogee (a suburb south of Fremantle) is quite an eery place. I think it may be the same as mentioned in the first post.

Among others, I've visited an old Chinese-style building in the CBD (for an illegal rave), a four-storey building on Adelaide Terrace in East Perth (with lifts still fully operational!) and a Brownes dairy foods factory in North Perth.

The most interesting abandoned site I explored was Hollywood Senior High School in Shenton Park. After being closed down for good, the buildings remained for quite some time. The site appeared similar to the aforementioned Carine TAFE.

I had this conversation with a demo crew that were coming in to take down a building I'd been charged with emptying of all furniture and computer equipment.

It's all about the resale value of the building materials.

The bloke reckoned they'd make close to a million bucks from this joint by stripping out and selling certain materials in this building. This was 1 mil profit after they'd paid landfil and employees for the stuff that couldn't be salvaged. Granted it was a pretty big building though.

Cool blog too.

Edit: THought i might add, I do doubt it was 1 mil profit, that'd be stupid. The guy was a bit of a bogan though, maybe that was the money they made but it cost them 2 mil to rip it down, I dunno.

I've noticed the same thing, for a city with a booming economy there seems to be an inordinate amount of unused real estate.

Not only that, a lot of these buildings used asbestos inside thus making it a slow process to knock down. In Melbourne the former eye hospital in North Melbourne was derelict for a while and boarded up. It was decked out with asbestos in the 1950s as were most buildings.

I remember, about 4 years ago, they were taking abestos out of the roof of my high school.

It goes to show to you the over ambitiousness and lacking the realisation of a place like Perth which leads to thriftiness for building buildings that become abandoned

Lets hope the Perth Convention Centre, The Perth Arena stay in use in a place like Perth for quite some time because a place like Perth doesnt exactly support those kinds of things

A recent example of a building which cost a lot of time and money to make and is now termed 'useless' - the shared services building in Cannington, lets hope that doesnt become one of those scary looking abandoned buildings

Perth is the fastest growing convention destination in Australia

Unfortunately there's only about 1/8 of the PEC left, most of the shell disappeared over one weekend in October...
