Work ethic is just one part of success.

It's just the same as anything, some people will work their arses off for the same result as someone who is naturally brilliant and hasn't put in nearly as much effort.

Success is determined by some mixture of IQ, EQ, balls and luck.

The weight attributed to each of these would vary hugely depending on the industry you're in. In a lot of industries you can be the hardest worker in the world, if you've got a sub-130 IQ you won't get a look-in etc.

Obviously this varies based on your definition of financial success though. If your definition is a stable $150k pa, EQ is probably the most important.
For real money, the biggest component would be luck, and it's not close.

I've always thought a decent education is overated. Why am i slaving away at uni making nothing as I don't have time for a job while my mates who are doing apprecticeships are probably doing the same amount of work but get paid for it

IQ tests mainly measure how good you are at IQ tests.

They're a little more than that, but only required if you want a reference point.
It's like wanting to jump on the scales when you know you haven't got a weight issue.
It's not as much about intelligence per se, as for the pliability of mind.

I've known people that could hardly string a sentence together, can't spell to save themselves, yet their thinking prowess is extraordinary.
By that I mean, to be able to assess situations from a variety of angles.
That I find interesting and intelligent.
