I wasn't sure which thread to add my comments regarding the Brisbane game so I thought I would start my own. On to the rant...
That performance on Sunday would have to be in the worst 2 or 3 that I have ever witnessed from the hawkers. Dismal.
Am I the only one to have doubts about Schwabs coaching. To me he is continually outcoached. Johnson on Black? WTF?
Some rambling thoughts;
Simon Cox: Lovely kicker (apart from a couple of clangers, which cost us goals), but that's it. No physical presence at all, which for a guy his size is a worry. He is a dud, get rid of him.
Brett Johnson: I used think this guy was a gun, now I am not so sure. Totally mismatched on Black, who exposed his lack of aerial skills. I'm starting to lose faith Brett, come on show me...
Rehn: After his shocker last week, at least he contributed something this week. Not much though, doesn't seem to take any pack marks these days and is no longer a genuine link man around the ground. Ageing VERY rapidly.
Nathan Thompson: This guy infuriates me. Should be a star in this competition but is not consistant enough. I worry about this guy, I hope his career doesn't go down the Trend Croad path of unfulfilled promise. I used to think bung him at full forward and leave him there, he'll kick 100 goals. Now I don't think that, he hasn't shown enough in this position to warrant being a FF. Tends to get caught under the high ball. Put him in the ruck I reckon and develop someone else as a FF (Dixon, Barker?).
Dixon: Another that infuriates me. Doesn't get enough of the ball and goes missing far too often for too long. I would play him on the wing where he would be involved more as he seems to be one of these players that needs to be involved in the play (if you know what I mean).
Crawford: Battled manfully against overwhelming odds. One of the few who can hold his head high. Apropo of nothing, for some reason he seemed very small compared to the Brissie midfield.
Harford: Shocker, I like Harf so I will forgive him for his performance. Pity he chose the reigning premiers to play one of his worst games ever.
Chick: Another shocker. Pathetic. Does not get enough of the ball at the best of times IMO. If he wants to elevate himself into the competitions elite he needs to be more consistant. Must start (and stay) in the centre I believe.
Holland: If his shoulders are 100% then why does he have all that tape on them? Tried hard, but lacks confidence in his marking at the moment.
Graham: Another who battled on manfully. Won his duel with Lynch who kicked the bulk of his goals when the game was over. Gets away with a lot of wrestling stuff.
Greene: Good start then fell away. Great skills, no physical presence. We cannot have he and Tim Clarke in the side at the same time.
Tim Clarke: This guy must be Schwabs love child, how he continues to get a game is beyond. Pathetic kicking, lacks penetration as the ball goes high and not long. I am not a fan of this kid at all. Too small as well.
Nick Stone: Looked very ordinary. Thrown to the wolves perhaps, but from what I saw of him he aint gonna be a player.
Only vanderburg and Crawford (and to a lesser extent Smith and Graham) can walk from this one with reputations intact.
The impression I am getting at the moment is that we are a team that is woefully underprepared for the start of the season. That is not neccesarily a bad thing as we should be cherry ripe come finals time but at the rate we are going we will be lucky to make the finals. Injuries of course are a big factor in this, but apart from Hay and Barker we were not missing anyone of any note on Sunday.
I hope Picioane's injury is not too bad, I rate him highly and we need his hard at it style.
Oh and well done Brisbane, awesome side. Simon Black is a genius.
