Why do we continue to perpetuate the stereotypes supplied to us by the mob down the road? The demographic at our games is no different to that of any other club. Well, that's my take on things having been to Showdowns and quite a few interstate games.

I'd be very surprised if our membership base didn't have a higher average age than Port's.

As I always say when this comes up......where then, are all the people who have been Port members all their lives? If this is the club formed in 1870, then they should have far more older members.

Gonna add my voice here in agreement with Beartoo's post re ageist junk on this board. For crying out loud when members/supporters have to turn on and eat each other, there needs to be some growing up. Knitting, apricot slice,etc...c'mon!..they pay their money and support your team. Where is the fairness and tolerance of the so called multicultural modern age! Sheesh!

Thanks a million. I'd managed to expunge from memory trips to Vic Park and Moorabbin. I'm now reliving the trauma!

LOl, me too. We caught an overnight bus to a game at Victoria Park in 91 and we lost by 100+ points, we were waiting for the bus out the front of the ground and we were copping abuse left right and centre as the crowd was filing out. God help us if we had won!!

Maybe I'm a tad sensitive because I'm in my early 70s, but fair dinkum there's a load of ageist crap on this site.
For the record I run five times a week, swim 50 laps of my local pool twice weekly, still work part-time in a profession I love and as far as I can tell still have marbles intact. I relate okay to people of all generations. Oh, and I'm loud as a supporter at the footy and have yet to be told to shut up. In fact I've become something of a cheerleader in my bay at AO.
I could go on about the 'Young People of Today' as has every generation from Plato on and probably before him as well, but I have enough common sense to understand that people of a generation are not a job lot.
Sorry Beartoo, wasn't meant to offend.

It was in response to some of the earlier posts from supporters who were abused for barracking at the Hawks game. The stories of the younger "ageistly" abused supporters needs to be told as well. By the way I'm not one of them I just try to see it from both sides.:D

Crowds everywhere are getting really soft. It's not just at Crows games. There seems to be a lower tolerance now for robust barracking.

It is a reflection of where society is heading?

I mean, the wailing and gnashing of teeth over BT's comment on the weekend.....Am I still on this planet?

Brian Taylor is a chronic w@nker and deserves everything he gets.

Who told you the Port Powers good news press conference story for early December?

They will do up the Adelaide Oval with party poppers, blank, white and teal streamers, party balloons and plates and plates of 100's and 1000's bread and butter triangles.

They will hold a press conference and announce they have an average membership age of 13.7 years.

I'm not saying it's a fact. I'd like to know if it is, because if casual observation is any guide...

Here's a theory.
Crows supporters have stuck with the club through good and bad. I was in my late thirties when the Crows were formed - I have grown older along with everyone else.

Power supporters dropped off when their team was shyte. Now they are having some success, new (younger?) supporters are jumping on board.

No offence taken, Hunter. Wasn't directed just at you. General comment on attitudes on here.

We (at school) still out number the power 5 kids to 1.

Auskick clinics give the true indications of who has the kids support and they are still highly populated with crows jumpers. the ratio is decreasing but its still in the crows favour.

Light hearted comment here. I signed my 2 grandsons up with Crow memberships on their first year at school 2013, hoping to snare them into the nest at an early age. One shows almost zero interest in footy but the other one has embraced it bigtime. In his second year he has now become an extreme Power supporter and through influence at school has developed the deluded anti Crow attitudes of those types. All my efforts to set him on the true life path have been in vain and he tells me he had to become a Port fan otherwise you were bullied at school. Now this may say something about his character but it intrigues me how the base feral intimidation can work in all levels of society, even at an 'up-there' private school. So now to some extent I have helped create a 'monster' and all my good intent has come back to bite me - although he has been quite subdued this last 4 weeks. Such is life.

This story doesn't sit well with me.

What school does he go to?

I'll get that school shut down for being un Australian :p and forcing kids to do something they don't want to do.
