You tell me to give Danny Annable some love???? ME???

I’m can’t believe I’ve been shouted down 😭

That was a test to see if you'd self quote 1000 posts and you passed. Proud friend alert 🚨

Lol imagine having a pick #2 coming in this draft and being like "yeah...but the Ashcroft's are better"

Come on Tom give Danny Annable some love.

Like me, Tom loves all of our rorts equally

Like his comments on Rioli. Disgraceful decision by the AFL.

NGA more complex. Need to have a consistence and evidence based approach to encouraging kids from non AFL backgrounds (including rugby). Clubs need to demonstrate they have identified and developed the kids. Not just cherry picked them, which I guess we may have done to a certain extent.

Incredibly funny that he turns a reasonable point about NGAs not really increasing the talent pool into a whinge about DEI.

I've said before, I'd give up all academies if the AFL simply got off their backsides and ran development themselves, competently. They have the money and the power to do so. But they didn't, so here we are.

Yep, I’d give up the academies, father sons, all compensation picks and priority picks.

Victorians crying over inequality in the drafting system is absolutely hilarious. There has never been a point in the existence of the AFL/VFL or whatever, where the competition has truly been equal. MCG tenants have an advantage over marvel tenants when it comes to finals, Marvel tenants have an advantage over MCG tenants, which is why MCG clubs always cry about playing at marvel. Big clubs like Collingwood and Essendon will always have the advantage over small clubs like North when it comes to luring players. Victorian clubs as a whole travel far far less; actually i read that scott pendlebury has only travelled to 99 interstate games in his whole career. Then there's interstate clubs like WA and SA clubs that have to travel a lot more than VIC clubs, but at least they're in AFL strongholds, so they can lure their own players back. Although they only play at the MCG like 2-3 times a year, so when finals come along, they're stuffed anyways. Then there's northern clubs, who face even more disadvantages than clubs from WA and SA. Although, i will admit WA clubs travel a lot further than we do, so they do have it more rough in terms of that. Anyway, what im trying to say is that there has never been an equal balance in the league. All clubs have advantages and disadvantages over others, some more than others. And our academies are a bit of a rort, but i would argue Collingwood's rorts far exceeds ours.

I'm not sure we'd even be having this conversation if it wasn't for the Ashcroft father sons lol. Fletcher & Marshall probably would have slid under the radar a bit more, the media wouldn't be focusing on Annable as much this year.

It's just got the media frothing that through a system that was intended to advantage traditional clubs, a Queensland club at the height of it's power has hit the jackpot.

There wasn't this much Helen Lovejoy in the media when it was the Daicos brothers going to Collingwood.

The father son rule was a unique, quirky, interesting aspect of the draft process back then. Obviously StKilda still objected, but no body cared.

I believe this change, and Healy's whing in the article above, is much more to do with Hawthorn and Port trying to list players they've never had anything to do with in their draft year.

Hawks have tried it a couple of time recently, and just this year asked the AFL if they could add potential top 5 prospect Oliver Greeves to their nga academy. Port have been trying to add probable 2026 first pick Doug Cochrane to their academy this year.

However this change was already in place with the WA clubs, where their nga kids had to be registered with their academy by their 15th year, for the WA clubs to have bid matching rights on their academy kids.

NGA was basically a 'Let's examine some family trees' fishing expeditions before they wound back access to top 20 picks... now its back.

At this point I don't care as it is getting us access to our rorts, and we won't have to pick from the open draft pool this yearso who cares.

Some clips from Coates Talent League Round 5.

Caylen Murray is an underager, so not eligible until 2026 Draft.
Oscar Barry I know nothing about, but suspect he may be an overager (from his PlayHQ playing records).

Caylen Murray #18

Oscar Barry #33

Both look pretty good. Murray reminds me of Jaspa, but needs a little work on his kicking.
Barry has a bit of Tom Stewart about him.

We know the "Southside Boys" have no idea what lies north of the CBD ....... so here's a heads up for the Northsiders:

If you are interested in seeing the Lions Academy Boys live, they are playing their Round 6 Coates Talent League game against Eastern Ranges at Sandgate AFC's ground on Lemke Rd on Saturday at 1.10pm.

I have no idea who will be in the side this week ...... maybe briztoon can advise.

As our club has said get back to us when we have the same percentage of our list made up of Queenslanders as the Vic clubs have of Victorians.Until then let the academy flourish. It seems the non Vic clubs are allowed to be successful ,just not too successful.

They have made a stack fo changes to the side this week, I imagine they have promised every kid in the squad a game so they are getting through them now.

Notable players not playing are Murray and Geesu. Most of the other changes are just fringe kids swapping chairs.
