Looks like the QLD 18s are playing their first TAC Cup game in VIC this weekend. Might put my scouting cap on and have a gander.

Any requests for who to keep an eye on?
Ballendean, Himmelberg, Clayton and note of anyone else who stands out.

If you're so inclined, I'm pretty interested in how Rolls and Watson look. Quigley is a big wrap on both (EDIT: hope I'm not overstating the point!) , and they both seem to play positions of relative need. Cheers.

Where/when is the game? I think I have a pretty quiet weekend so would be good if I could wander down to check it out as well

Allison probably the main one but I suspect you'd probably be doing that anyway;)

I do like Rolls a lot and think Watson has a fair bit of potential.

The other guy I would throw in there is Dadds. We could use a slippery small forward and I will be interested how he goes.
Roger that. Feel like I'm back at uni with all this homework

Game is at Preston on Saturday v Northern Knights. 11am start

Used to work around the corner on Bell St. Really good market 100m down from the ground and a top Vietnamese bakery around the corner too (magical pork rolls). https://www.zomato.com/melbourne/tinas-hot-bread-preston

But triple check when locking your car before attending the game; some real oddballs surround that particular part of Preston

Will Ballanden be playing as a bottom ager?

I thought you said you only used to work around the corner?

Reasonable talk up by Cal Twomey about Nate Dennis on his podcast. Anyone know if A) he is still part of our academy and B) is tracking well this year?

Sounds like it's more aimed at GWS than us, them being the only academy club with an AFL-oriented area that basically integrates with Victoria instead of its own capital, but the AFL is doing more to make sure teams actually interact with their academy prospects.

I have absolutely no issue with this. The Academies should be there to nurture young talent that wouldn't otherwise have had the opportunity. If GWS are genuinely doing this in the Riverina then they should get the benefit. However if they are just listing kids who are already on a pathway and they have limited involvement in their progression, then no, they should not have access to these kids. This would apply to all Academy areas, not just the Riverina. In an ideal world there would be no need for Academies, but in Rugby League dominated areas this is a long way off.

Yeah sounds very GWS focused. Probably as much about the guys like Hopper? who went to boarding school in Ballarat and really had little to do with the giants in his last year or so.

Yeah, GWS has been signing up kids to their academy but letting them run through the Bushrangers' system. I get why they do it - it's less impactive for the kids to be run semi-locally instead of moving or travelling to Sydney repeatedly, but it is a bad look. This should get some of the complainers off the academies' backs.

The other "bad look" IMO are the guys that get signed up as 17 year olds as they're about to enter their draft year, as happened with Hopper (if memory serves). I wouldn't be opposed to a change that says a player has to be in an academy for a minimum of three years or so for the club to nominate them.
