I note your comments on Gilder. Also a Sherwood lad, as is Greenbury. Though Greenbury is more a medium sized defender. Gilder is a 6'4 intercept marking weapon who is stupidly athletic, lightening quick and has a good dose of aggression.

Gilder really should be pushing for QAFL senior selection at Sherwood, but this year has opted to only play u16 and academy footy. He does train with the Seniors once a week under Adrian Fletcher though.
Thanks for the info.

FWIW I think there is a bit to be said for kids of that age not going all in on senior football. Train with the seniors but enjoy dominating against their age group. Keep the fun in football and minimise the chances of injury playing against body types more akin to their own.

Is it possible to turn Gilder into a tall midfielder or am I an idiot?

I watched Sherwood u16s play against Burleigh a few months ago, and Gilder according to the playhq program was wearing #8 and he played midfield for a large part of the game, so he definitely does it in club football.

also note that Shadeau Brain being used in VFL games, which suggests definitely on Lions radar. No other academy players being used at VFL level

Jaspa Fletcher out for the season, not sure if really injured or they're trying to hide him. Not very good at hiding him given the media attention hes had!

I guess his Dad will not be pleased?

Interesting to see a couple of the Suns top young 15 and 16 year old academy kids are going to boarding school in Melbourne and playing NAB league. One at Oakleigh and one at Sandringham.

I wonder if any of our academy kids have been offered scholarships to move south.

Injured, but progressing according to plan.

Any of you get out to some of the Youth Grand Finals over the weekend?

The calibre of play in the u16 Division 1 South game was superb. In fact better than many QAFL Colts games I have seen this year.

Morningside defeated Burleigh by less than a kick, benefiting greatly from a few local umpires at crucial moments - but it was a sensational standard of footy. Some youngsters in the Burleigh team who are only 15 have serious potential. Suns Academy certainly have some talent coming through.

#3, #4, #12 and #15 for Morningside can seriously play - look good prospects for the Lions.

The u16 Div1 North game between Aspley and Grange was a much lower calibre of footy, neither of those teams would get near the Top 5 south teams from what I saw. #10 and #11 from Aspley know their way around though, can certainly play. Grange a more even side, no clear standouts I specifically wanted to see the next McFayden or Crozier, but didn't see either of them out there?

Also caught 2nd half of an u14 game prior, the Div 1 fixture was on the Gold Coast, so it was a Div 2 game. Game was a thriller and went into extra time. Couple of kids for the Magpies in #10 and #12 just put the team on their backs and carried them to an amazing win. #12 was a big tall left footer with vice like mits, just clunking everything as the dominant big man, however not a typical big kid dominating smaller opponents, he was the one out big man against a much bigger team and just marked everything and uses the ball well,he kicked a stunning solo goal to level the score, clear footy smarts, not just a big giraffe that will get found out when others grow. #10 was a kid that just looked relentless. Quickest kid i saw at any level on the day, just lightning speed, penetrating kick and just charged through stoppages with no regard for his own personal safety - had a bit of Dangerfield about him the way he breaks lines. They were way out of it and he won about 6 stoppages in a row with a heavy tag to get the game back to a contest. (both apparently Lions academy kids as I asked a few people watching about them)

I highly recommend getting out to youth grand final weekend, I wish I had done it earlier. QLD footy looks to have a good future and the passion on display was fantastic to see.

Note: I saw Jaspa Fletcher there walking around with his dad. Didn't appear to have a moon boot or any crutches, so not sure on the story with this mystery foot injury?

Maybe he(Jaspa) is on the right side of his injury now? Has moved into running. All positive signs.

So any chance you can find out the names of any of the kids?

Yer at Yeronga, it is only a 5 minute stroll from where I live, I also watched some of the Under 14 Div 1 GF on live feed as my grandson played div 1 for Yeronga this year, Southport beating Burleigh pretty easily. There was a kid that played for IIRC Vic point and his nickname was magic, (at least that was what his team mates and coaches called him) far and away the best player I saw in that division and I only missed a couple of Yeronga's games this season.

Maybe we put him in a moon boot to get him to drop down the draft 😎😎
