You can buy a 3g usb modem like the ones all the telcos here sell with their wireless data plans.

Then you would just have to buy a sim card that has data from over there.
 
mcdonalds have wi-fi too. if you're backpacking a majority of hostels provide wi-fi too. (in europe anyway)

If you have a usb modem from a australian telco you can generally use them OS as long as the account is enabled for overseas roaming but I would't advise doing this. You get charged at arround $15 a megabyte. Ive seen some massive bills.
