Well for a start Cooney's a RFA so if he really wants to leave there's no need to trade. He just needs Hawthorn to bid more than the Dogs want to pay.
Cross is a likely retirement. Can still play good footy but is past his best and I doubt the Hawks would want him. Not sure he'd want to play a single farewell season for another club either. A bit sad when that happens like Doug Hawkins in his final year at Fitzroy.

As for the suggested Hawks players ... Grimley: no thanks, no more lightly framed project players. Lowden: no we've got a developing ruckman in Campbell already. Ellis: don't need another injury prone player thanks. We've got that covered in spades. Wanganeen: still a rookie isn't he? if Hawthorn don't want to elevate him I doubt he'd be good enough for us.
Those four have played ... what? maybe 2-3 games for the Hawks all year.

So as trade ideas go I'd say it's got nothing going for it at all. We'd be crazy to consider it.

There is no way in hell that we're going to trade a Brownlow medallist, and a 200 game player, for a bunch of guys that haven't debuted, a guy that is perennially injured, and Kyle Cheney. If anything Cheney actually makes the trade WORSE :p

You're going to have to offer a lot more than that.

An equal trade in reverse would be, say, Sam Mitchell for Easton Wood, Daniel Pearce and Ayce Cordy.

I won't bring up Spangher! :P

Would the Doggies hold Cooney back if he asked to go? Would you take Ellis for Campbell?

No way would we give Campbell up for Ellis. You wouldn't get much at all for Ellis, due to his history. Would be someone who would only get picked up as a delisted free agent, imo.

I don't think we'd hold Cooney back if he wanted to go, but if the monetary value is too low and we figured out what the FA compensation would be, I think we'd match it, then sort out a trade. We aren't going to willingly lose him for peanuts.

Well if Hawthorn puts in a bid Doggies can decide to outbid or not. Like Danyle Pearce... Port didn't bid... they just let him go.

Is this a troll? Why do people keep thinking we'll give up promising talent for players with no residual AFL value?

Ok think of any players that you might delist at the end of the year. Automatically cross them out as part of any trade where you want something good in return.

If Cooney asked to go we wouldn't hold him back. We'd match the offer, and sort out a fair trade for both parties. I get the feeling we won't screw the Hawks over and vice versa.

Maybe that's the scenario that will take place if he does not sign. Hawks want Cooney, they put in a price, then it's our option to match or not. I personally hopes he signs !! a one club man !!

It happens at every club. We look at, say, Higgins, and think "Ok highly talented player, had a few injury problems, but a good kick and a good feel for the game, worth a high 2nd round pick at least." Opposition supporters say "Always injured, might do a late 3rd round pick."

It's all perspective.

Yeah but our pespective is always so much better than their perspective.;)

Well Adam Cooney is a Brownlow Medalist... #1 Priority Pick in 2003 National Draft. - Knee injury that has to be managed, Turning 28 - Less work would help him manage his knee
Xavier Ellis - Premiership Player - Played in 2012 Grand Final. #3 Priority Pick in the National Draft in 2005
Turning 26. Niggling minor injuries. Fresh start would help him, has a lot of potential still.

Nah I was thinking maybe you could give up Tom Campbell to GWS. We will give you Sam Grimley. What other ruckman do you hold apart from Minson...? Is Cordy still classed as a ruckman?

True, but Cooney is a significantly better player than Ellis. Even with his dodgy knee.

I would say in complete confidence we'd rather the FA compo pick than Ellis. He's just too unreliable.

I'd love to have Cooney at the Hawks. It would be amazing... but I wouldn't wanna screw the Doggies... Cause I reckon I would be a Doggies supporter if Hawthorn didn't exist.

We take Cooney.. you take the FA Compo pick. & Ellis delisted or sent to Melbourne :P

Campbell's our #2 ruck and is playing tomorrow (only second game for the season). If he gets an extended run on the ball it will be worth a look to see how he's progressed. However he's likely to play a fair part of the game up forward.

Cordy is a big worry - form, injuries, etc. Hasn't shown much as either a ruck or a forward yet. Not even in the best in the VFL games he's playing. However we're almost certain to give him another year or two yet.

How many years since he was a first 22 regular?

Been a while now

Delist

My point says he was in the Grand Final last year... so that obviously means he was in the best 22 in 2012. & earlier this season. Maybe he's just another Mitch Thorp.... Thorp would be a great pick-up for the Dogs.

Wow did Ellis sleep with your sister or something? :p

I think the easiest solution is: We lose Cooney, we gain a compo pick. A fair trade is too hard to work out, unless you want to do a swap of your first rounder for our 2nd rounder or similar.

So why wouldn't you take Luke Lowden... your ruck stocks is a worry. Chase Daniel Currie at North Melbourne.

so if cooney goes, and we get a compo pick, am i correct that the AFL will issue us a pick in the top 20?

Ruck is fine with Minson, campbell and then Cordy and roughie.

While you're here moose, what can we give u for savage? Like him a lot.

You can keep talking up Ellis fact of the matter is there is no chance he will be at the dogs
