I was watching the gane today between S.A and W.A. Can you please tell me why Adam Gilchrist did not open the batting for W.A yet he does for Australia. It didn't make sense. When he came in he certainly got the run rate up.

dees - good question. From what I've heard, the WA match committee wanted to test Campbell and Langer opening together, which unfortunately didn't work. Although I dont think WA should be too upset with the game, Gilchrist was so close to getting the fastest 50 of the summer, Goodwin had a great knock, Moody and Julian scored quickly, Langer tried to out-do King Kong in the banana eating contest. Martyn and Katich were also unable to play due to Australia A selection.
I thought that chasing 260, WA with their batting depth did the sensible thing in starting solidly and aiming to be 180-200 with few wickets down by 40 overs. I think they ended up 2-190 or so at that stage. This set the quick scorers up (Gilly, Julian, Moody) to play their shots in the last 10 overs to get the required runs. As it turns out they missed out by a couple of runs, but I think the approach was right, although I would have sent Julian in at 5 to lift the run rate, ahead of Moody and Hussey.

What does everyone think of Gilly?¿ The best wicky keeper ever or just one of the greats?¿
I reckon he comes pretty close to being the best. He is a great bloke with incredible athletic skill and talent of wicket keeping. I also think Berry (i forget who he plays for, could be Vic) is a good up and comer. From what I've seen of him, he seems alot like Gilly.

Richmondfan#1, for what its worth I also think Gilchrist is a great bloke and he is one of my favourites. He might not be quite as good as Healy was with the stumps but he more than makes up for it with his batting.
Yes, Berry does play for Victoria and he is a great wicketkeeper and would nearly have to be next in line if something happens to Gilchrist.
