Just a minnow basher who lucked out by having the opportunity of playing five tests in a short period of time, against unequivocally the worst test match team of this century. Wouldn't say he's a 'fraud', as such; not unless he is remembered and celebrated as some kind of batting all time great when the reality is he's just a decent, slightly above average batsman who ran into some flat tracks and laughable opposition and capitalised. Most of these runs are about as credible as Jason Gillespie's double hundred.

Averages 542 against West Indies :D

I think the people who are saying he would be a 50 average batsman are being really generous. Take West Indies out and Voges averages 34.71 in test cricket. I reckon he would probably average 45 (that's including this season's molestation of the Windies, which I shall assume will never happen again in his hypothetical career) if he had a prolonged career in tests, and would be lucky to push a 40 average without West Indies.

Obviously is cashing in with some very favourable circumstances, but after the toil he's done he bloody well deserves it. Not like it's only been bashing the Windies either, made runs for fun against the Kiwis as well (admittedly their bowling was well down on what it usually is).

His ODI form over the years has shown he is a quality player against anyone. Going with the eye test, I would reckon a test average of 45 would be about right for him if he had been given an opportunity earlier. Hope he can keep this amazing run going and retire with some awesome numbers though and ensure mouthbreather tears for eternity. :)

Dont rate him sorry. Was given a run to give us some experience for the Ashes and didnt produce. Flogging poor attacks on home roads after that doesnt mean anything to me. We could have used his spot to give someone else a run, someone who could potentially play for Australia for a decade.

Having said that, good on him for making runs, better than not making runs.

Yes, Voges will go down as one of the all time greats.

We'll be telling our grand children about how Adam Voges belted the legendary Windies side of 2015 all round the park, in a crucial make or break test match with his team desperate for a hero.

Yep in 50 years it'll be " Don who" ?
Instead it'll be all about the Adam Voges stats from 50 years ago

Adam, don't let your mum start threads on Bigfooty about you.

Adam Voges is the reverse Mitch Marsh. Wasn't long ago he was a dud bowler because he only had a couple of wickets (and therefore a horrible average)and now we want to pick him as the 3rd seamer. Only made 1* and 17* though so clearly still a dud batsman.

People get so hung up on stats of players that have played half a dozen or a dozen tests.

Not many players debut in test cricket and make 50 an innings from go to woah. Assuming you're any good you either start off big and have a ridiculous average that comes down over time (see Mike Hussey) or you start off small then it gradually builds up (see Steve Smith).

Voges is alright but his technique seems a bit flawed which may cause him trouble against good bowling attacks.

Sometimes it's kind of strange, his feet and lower body are positioned for a straight drive but he hits it on the leg side.

He opens his shoulders while his hips are still closed.

Not a bad 149 in NZ. I think he is averaging 150 odd in his last 10 innings.

David Hussey not playing tests was no loss, even when we were crap in 2010. Not even close to his brother, probably not as good as Voges even.

but how many players are tried for a decade long player like Ponting. Ponting was a once in a decade player. Clarke was a great politician for a cricketer, earmarked as captain.

But the team will go thru about a dozen players for every Michael Hussey or Clarke. That is not a good strike rate.

Economics and the income for players, plus PEDs, plus an older entry level to the State shield feeder system, means the Rogers/Hussey/Voges careers in their 30s are now viable. Bowlers is a much different equation, Rhino Harris is the exception that proves the rule.

even Matthew Elliott, even tho he had his chances and he was written off as a bit of a headcase... I thought Elliot was written off because he told his wife what went on on tour, and he had been 'unfaithful', and his wife told the other wives... from that moment on his cards were marked.

*sounds like I made cricket a morality play

He's in form but those runs aren't worth that much IMO. If he stands up in the NZ tests, great. Otherwise it's been a wasted opportunity for mine.
smaller grounds, bigger bats, the boundary rope... 60 is the new 40. a 1980s Allan Border 50 would be ~70.

See Usman, phenomenal player no doubt, but he really struggled to hit the ball thru the inner field.

Guns mean runs? roids mean runs you mean, #vitaminCJC

Matthew Elliott's last two test innings were 1 and zero, and he was only in the side as a replacement for Ricky Ponting anyway. He was originally dropped after a series in the West Indies in 1999 where he scored 69 runs in six innings (at 11.5), which was fewer runs and at a worse average than Glenn McGrath.

there were other reasons which I have alluded to. My mail may well be incorrect. And yeah, his Windies record was atrocious, one cant deny that. But that Tour, p'raps his insular nature played its role. But was not the zero and a sinlge from the Northern Territory test?
