Biggest problem with the camp was having it.

Would have been better off going to Victor Harbour, getting on the beers, and all having a punt together at the local pub.

Then all get back to normal footy training in good spirits.

Rapid Bay and some fire walking would have galvanised the playing group

The Melbourne Press Club has reinstated an award given to journalist Sam McClure for his reporting on a controversial AFL training camp, after an independent panel recommended the decision to strip him of the honour was flawed.

Given the fact that not a single word was actually retracted, it was an awful decision to remove it in the first place. The apology was only ever about any implication that CM deliberately screwed up. And they archived stories that were old anyway. It was a business decision, not a journalistic one.

Just like the historical myths of Mary Antoinette saying “let them eat cake” and Catherine the Great dying while engaged in relations with a horse, history will record the Crows camp as being as insane and humiliating as the original reports indicated.

And I’m totally on board with that. It’s now established footy folklore.

Sorry Crows fans, but to quote the classic western, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

“When the legend becomes truth, print the legend.”

Welp, time to ruin my google algorithm!

Never heard the one about Catherine the great rooting a horse.

Googling now.

I'm pretty sure the original reports were shown to be correct on this one though

The thing that is genius about the myth that Catherine the Great slept with a horse is that it has stuck to her reputation over the centuries more than any of her accomplishments.

It has stained her legacy, reducing a shrewd politician, brilliant strategist, and all around heroine of the enlightenment into a dirty joke.

Same as Henry the viii and the apparent syphilitic infection.

On the other hand if Ur trying to argue that any members of the British royal family "deserve more recognition" then you are really making an argument that I'll never support and is beyond ludicrous.

Royals get an extremely good run with the PR.

You would too if you had loads of people paid to say nice things about U.

For starters whose idea was it to add "the great" on to her name???

What a load of horse shit.

Wally Hammond missed the entire 1926 cricket season with syphilis that he caught on that winter's West Indian tour.

Umm...no...not saying anything about ‘recognition’...outside that stories of the quality of her leadership have not survived as well as the horse myth.
