Adelaide board pretty much in shock
We are in MASSIVE trouble here! Heads should roll over this! How ******* stupid is this?!
Agree, cannot believe we are involved with something as underhanded as this it reeks of amateurism at it's best.

Definitely deserves it's own thread if only for the reason that the AFC takes note.
Spot on Stiffy, but Tippett won't be de-registered, he can always pleade he was completely unaware of the rules; which is uderstandable for a player.

Blutcher to lose his licence and we'll be sitting on about 6 figures lighter in our books, probably looking for a new CEO and taking a strong look at the make up of the board.

The AFL now has one hand wrapped around our ownership.
If it is indeed true, we should expect the resignation of Trigg and anyone else invovled with the deal immediately.

However, this isn't hard facts it is the continuation of a rumour which has been going on for over 12 months.

I still find it very hard to believe that the club would agree to trading a player for a "a second-round choice" it is simply too vague to have been entered into by anyone with any commercial acumen.

It would be great however to see Tippet de-registered due to all of this, given he and his manager are the ones that have ultimately strung this out.

I'll cop the AFL sanctions on the chin if it effectively cleans the club out at the top.
I like what Cap says

Carltons punishment was due to systemic rorting of the cap over a prolonged period of time that culminated in effect straight out bullshit cheating the system. So suitably the AFL wrapped the book in chains and hurled it at their faces to make them shit their pants and cease their crap.

Adelaide have simply put their foot in it, they'll likely be fined, incur some manner of delayed penalty (ie 2014 DP's immediately gain +4 spots, so a 12 will be 16) and Tippet will likely also get fined and a slap on the wrist will ensue whilst the public go "omigawsh!". That and someone at Adelaide will likely quit / become the scapegoat for why this happened and be forced out.

4 spots seems a bit arbitrary and has the effect of rewarding only a handful of clubs, just drop them to the bottom of a few rounds perhaps.

The Adelaide fans and media will certainly be measuring someone up for a big necktie

As annoying as it's been, it's probably not a bad thing the AFL 'books guy' has been floating around our club in recent years...

Indeed, but I meant to say it'll be a minor penalty if anything draft related as opposed to the previous "yay, remove them from the draft!" quip from those who like to draw every sort of breach to Carltons effort. If anything it'd just place picks before the priorities @ round end.

If they did agree to pay $200,000 outside the salary cap, this puts the entire situation on a much more serious level. It becomes outright salary cap cheating, while not of Carlton levels, the same sort of thing. So I would expect that they will be fined & lose draft picks if this turns out to be correct.

I hope he is deregistered, hes been acting like a complete twat since the season ended

Texting your mates? Have some balls

I want to go home then you choose to go to the reigning premier only?

He deserves whats coming to him, same with adelaide....they were probably cheating the cap in 97 too...

It's good that they're investigating but where's the investigation into 3rd party deals/tanking and other draft tampering scenarios. It seems that they only investigate when it suits them. You can't 'crack down' or something and let other things go by unnoticed

Not sure of the timing or procedure for this, but is it too early to ask for our 97 Premiership Cup?

The first thing I felt as this hit was Relief.

The first scandal of the off season and St Kilda was not involved. May the footy gods continue to place their evil gaze elsewhere.

The second thing was Relief.

If Waldron had remained at St Kilda would we be facing a salary cap issue now?

Then I recalled how I felt during the last qtr in 1997 when a Crows female was in my face as we went down. Then I laughed.

Adelaide may be in some pain and maybe I am a bad man, but I cannot help but feel some Joy.

Adelaide offer tippet an extra incentive to stay and he should be punished but not Adelaide? Sounds ludicrous to me. If they had to go that far then certainly they did not expect him to stay after three years.

Why then so angry when he decides to leave? Wasn't it obvious?

I'm not suggesting that they were innocent and leave them alone, Adelaide were naughty and deserve a proper slap on the wrist, but they realised it was all coming out and decided to own up and cop it sweet.

Carlton, if you remember, cheated year after year after year. When the AFL warned them - they didn't stop - they just hid it better. They kept cheating as if they were entitled to cheat. They were thumbing their noses at the rest of the clubs (who cheated much less or not at all).

The AFL had to do what they did. Carlton thought they owned the AFL and were immune to criticism or punishment. Carlton got off lightly for what they actually did - but to this day still squeal like stuck pigs about how harshly they were treated.

Adelaide cheated but not of the same scale of time or audacity.

The Tippett clan were complicit in this. Adelaide are totally stupid for doing this sort of stuff.

If they are guilty, then the AFL has a duty to punish them appropriately. No mucking around. It may not have been as bad as Carlton, but given the carry on about gambling, they have no ethical choice than to remain true to their hard line attitudes.

Let the punishment fit the crime. Tippett should be deregistered for 12 months for being greedy. After all Cousins was for his issues. Adelaide should be banned from drafts this year and psd.

Both player and club have rorted the system. Simple.

I don't agree that because it wasn't as bad as Carlton it shouldn't be punished as much. That sends a message that 'well if we only go over it a little bit we'll only be punished a little bit' which is not on. When it comes to the integrity of the league you have to be strong. Whether it's a dollar or Carlton-esque the punishment should be the same. Don't like it? Don't cheat.

Granted the paper bag shufflers at Carlton were systematic and long term cheats, but do we forgive Adelaide as they are only trainee cheats?

Adelaide from reports have not only conducted activities outside what should have been reported to the AFL, they have paid substantial monies outside the salary cap. To say that Adelaide have come forward with this and therefore the penalty should be lenient, is ridiculous.

Tippett and his legal crew were going to out the whole sorry mess, if they have proceeded to a Supreme Court action. Adelaide then aware that this was all coming out publicly, have brought this to the AFL's intention. They will not receive a big reduction in penalty for this.

Adelaide's omission is like the bank robber, coming out of the bank, seeing police down the street speeding to the bank, throws his hands up and makes a full admission and asks for leniency. All appreciated, but he is still a bank robber.

I do feel sorry for Adelaide supporters, but they have had the benefit of games and matches that may have had different results if Adelaide weren't cheats, so your time for some pain now too.

You are in brilliant form today. Your clarity is spot on.

I understand that there is an extent of cheating.. or varying degrees. But as you say, in the end they knowingly cheated the system.

All I see is that Cousins was never caught during tests but because he came out so to speak he had to step out of the game for 12 months. What does concern me is that WCE knew he had a problem so their 2005 flag is tainted IMO.

So my biggest concern is that the AFL will show consistency in their actions. It's not up to me to hand down the punishment, but all I ask is that the time suits the crime.

Without the Carlton fiasco around a decade ago, the AFL needs to send a strong signal if they are serious about stamping out these matters.
