Adelaide V Collingwood - MCG - Saturday Night

I don`t want to sound cocky but niether team today played well enough to trouble us.
Were they thinking looser faces Adelaide next week and perhaps were overcautious.

Absolutely ridiculous statement.

Just because we have belted Carlton and Essendon while kicking a shit load of goals doesn't mean we will go out and kick 25-30 against either the Pies or Saints.

They both play a different style and apply more pressure. Our last two opponents applied a bit of pressure in the first quarter and that was it.

It is going to be a very tough match next week but I'd rather play Collingwood than the Saints. If we faced the Saints today I don't think we could have handled the pressure and we certainly wouldn't have kicked as many goals as we did on Friday night.

In: Bock, van Berlo
Out: Douglas, Hentschel

i dont necessarily disagree, but i cant see trent being dropped, as he can play anywhere on the ground.
actually i would be inclined to leave the team as it is if there is any doubt over bock and vb's 100% fitness

They destroyed Didak today, and I mean absolutely destroyed. He had 13 possessions and maybe 3 or 4 were effective. Put Doughty on him and tell him it doesn't matter if he doesn't get a disposal, just don't let Dids get any space. Look what happened to Collingwood today when Didak was shut down! And Davis also did virtually nothing today, lock down their flashy and crowd pleasers and you go a long way towards winning the match.

I'll post my predicted match-up's in a sec.

As predicted, none of those fancy front-runners they've got did anything today. Didak, Davis, Medhurst etc. did absolutely **** all, bar more than a few squib efforts.

Let's be honest.

Moran won't play again this season. Davis won't debut this season unless Rutten, Stevens and Otten all went down. Shirley unlikely but possible if they want to negate one of their midfielders.

van Berlo should play, Bock 50/50 but I'd play him even if he's close.

Don't underestimate the significance of the Pendlebury injury, had 27 possessions against us last time and 29 in R1. He's a huge loss.

Rocca going down is probably a plus but they'll probably bring in Dawes who seems to kill us.

Drumm

I agree, Rocca was a liability for them today the Pies are more dangerous when they have more mobility in their forward 50m

Wood will come in next week and it will be an opportunity for Maric to square the ledger as Wood was almost BOG last time we met

At least Craigy was there and hopefully he has realised we need to stick tight on them next week. Don't give them any space or they will end our season. Keep them to **** all touches and we will be a fair chance of meeting the Cats.

No they did not.
Any chance you could check your facts first?
I am not trying to have a go, but can we get things right?

Should be a great game.

You should also check those stats you refer to, we played a HOME final at the MCG because we got rorted by the stupid MCG rule to have a game played in VIC, Port had a home game also I think which is why it happened.. I remember this pretty clearly as I was mega pissed about it.

I could only find one article on it but it should make you realize you should check stats before bagging someone else...

Pretty sure it was a game against the Demons?

How big/small will the crowd be?

70K would be a reasonable expectation, as I said in another thread for AFC supporters cost will come into the equation now as we have possibly three games in Melbourne, do people come this week and then hope for the GF, do they come this week and next week knowing they are more than likely not going to go to the GF, do they hope we win this week and come for PF and then possible GF, do they hope we make the GF and come just for that.

right. port and crows both lost qualifying finals and deserved home semi-finals against the winners of the elims.. port finishing higher on the ladder gave them priority for footy park.. altho the way our game's run i'm surprised crows didn't (unfairly) get the game in adelaide based on projected ticket sales

Not bad... but I don't see the Pies putting Brown on Burton (although I hope they do!)

Don't think we should get rid of Trent... multiple options is what we need up forward to really pressure their defence... plus he has been playing loose down back well.

Anthony and Rocca both showed nothing today - hope they both play! Only 85000 crowd - pretty disappointing for two Vic sides on 'the big stage'

Spot on. West Coast got screwed several times in the '90's because of this agreement, and the Brisbane Lions were forced to play a 'Home' Preliminary Final over Geelong in 2004 because of this stupid arrangement.

Common sense then prevailed and a 'banking' system was created (meaning if the AFL had to play x amount of finals at the 'G over an x amount of year period). The effect was immediate as the 2005 Semi's were played at the SCG and AAMI, and in 2006 West Coast and Freo had home semi's, Adelaide and Sydney had home prelim's, and they were all played at Subiaco, AAMI, and ANZ respectively (there was no game at the G in the second and third week of the 2006 Finals series). With the amount of MCG finals in the past couple of years, the AFL should have plenty of excess matches in the bank to prevent a repeat of 2002 for us and 2004 for the Brisbane Lions.
