Coach Adem Yze

The best thing about this news is that I heard it via the club first and not a journalist.

On Yze, I always said that his first two years would go judgement free from me personally. Obviously I commented on certain things about him but was never declaring a position on him either way.
Next year his judgement cometh. It's his group now and I want to see a discernible game style that is clear in its identity.

Congratulations on the extension Ooze, but now it's time to really get to work on bringing this club back to where it belongs. It's still not about wins and losses for me this year, but moreso how we go about it and how we rock up week in, week out.

There's a lot to consider with this decision. I won't say it's great or its bad, it's somewhere in between.

He has the toughest job in football. The list is being built from the ground up. Results wouldn't be coming even for the best coach in the league let alone one that is learning. He deserves to see it through a bit longer. The players love him. That's all the true.

However, it's fair to say there's serious questions on his match day coaching and inability to adapt quickly. His reluctance to change the midfield and rolling out the same midfield over and over for the last 2 years.

Reluctance to get tough on senior player dishing out poor performances. If you are pushing 30 or over you aren't being dropped or your role isn't changing under Yze. The fact McIntosh played every game last season and never went to the VFL was a disgrace.

I need to see all of this improve. Not saying it can't as he's still an inexperienced coach. I will say if the club was convinced this is our next premiership coach this contract extension would've been longer than 2 years. Let's see.

Its a good time frame to set goals, expect another bottom 5 finish next year but with an emerging game style. Then expect improvement in the 2027,28 seasons

If he gets us in the wild card round in 2027 then extend his contract again

He hasn't really done much to suggest he is a tactical mastermind. But who knows time will tell.

We are a big club so we need a coach who isn't just ok or average.

Let’s get the structural and strategic piece in place first. Get them all on the same page, learn the game plan, how we move the ball, defend the ground.
Tactical comes much later.

I agree up to a point, however, who was he going to rotate through the middle considering the injuries to players and the replacements like Dow.

It isn't any wonder why the 2024 & 2025 drafts focused on midfielders.

extensions, contentions, its all babel, can be sacked in a whisker if it all goes **** up but yeah its a softener at the end of the day, what their really sayin is ya 'got 40 games to show us sumthin'

in his defence say Gollum Coast dont win the flag in 2026,Dimmas 3rd year,GC's list is far more developed and been preparing together a lot longer than Yze's RFC,there has to be some allowance to get it it right

Good timing and call for mine
Shown enough in these early stages and definitely seems to be embraced by the players

Also shown the ability to attract high caliber assistants to the club like Breust

Now it seems like we have hit our floor his next test will be how he plans to build on that foundation

Given him enough time to know that the club has backed him in but not too much that would stop us from tapping him on the shoulder if we don’t see results

Great for stability, needs a fair go at it. You can't give him Hardwick's destruction and expect anything else from his first two years. Even if 2026 is a shit show that is fine it's more 2027 onwards we want to be doing the 12th 11th place finishes and pushing for finals in 2028.

Would’ve like to have seen us wait until we atleast saw a competitive structure in place on field before extending
If Yze was left uncontracted beyond 2026, then what decision does he make mid-2026 to the team? Does he select Ross over Cumming, Short over Grlj, Broad over Trainor and Prestia over McCauliffe ....and play TT and Hopper in every centre bounce because he's coaching for his career and needs wins?

Now he knows he can coach with a priority of what's best for 2027 and 2028, not what's best to get him wins in 2026 to get an extension.

Now it's up to the club's hierarchy to tell Yze and the selectors to ensure there's a healthy balance between earning your spot in the team, and developing for the future.

Unsure if he's the right bloke too take us to our next flag.
I believe you have too taste success yourself too know what it takes.
There are exceptions of coarse.
