Went down last night as I do every year. I wont bother mentioning finances or anything like that as it's already well known but I will point out a few things that got my attention.

For the 1st time the new recruits were present apart from Sam Shaw (not sure why he wasn't). Craigy gave a over-view of the season and gave us a bit of information reguarding the injured fellas.
  • Truck and Bocky will go into full training very shortly (he expects them on track from next week)
  • VB isn't being rushed and should resume full training after the christmas break.
  • Moran after Xmas break too
  • really disappointed with the injury to Otto and said he would have been a key ingredient in our midfield this year :(.
Craigy then had the pleasure of introducing the new boys. He had a light hearted interview with each of them while giving us info about them. He made a strong point that we have a very strong and determined enviroment at the club and it would not suit all players. He said that all these boys will fit in due to their great personalilties :thumbsu:.
  • Talia has a great footy background in his genes. His great, great grandfather played for the Dogs, his granfather was a premiership player for the dogs and his dad also played with the Dons reserves.
  • Craigy asked his height and Talia said 195cm. He must have grown. Craigy said he can play midfield :thumbsu:
  • James Craig is a very big boy. Already barrel chested and seemed to tower over Talia too. Hopefully he has grown too.
  • Neil said he expects James to have a very big impact this year.
Alot was mentioned about the facility and Adelaide Oval.
Triggy made it clear that if we are not ALOT better off moving to AO we will stay put. They have a long checklist that must be ticked off before they say yes.He also said in betting terms at the beginning of the year it would have been 50-1 odds of AO getting up but it has probably shortened to 2-1 odds.
Port have basically followed our path on demands like a after-match facility being available.
Triggy also hinted that the AFC might even do our own thing in the CBD :thumbsu:.

At the end of the AGM the club opened up the 19th floor with free access to the museum, Replica locker room and board room while shouting everyone free beers and wine :thumbsu:.

Thats all I can think of so far but feel free to ask any questions about the night

You beat me to it Cheif Crow!

Here's what I prepared earlier:

I attended the AGM last night in the new Shed which was reasonably well attended by the majority of more senior members. It lasted for a considerably longer time than the Crows own AGM that ran for a mere 14 minutes. I thought it would be worthwhile posting some notes here as many hot topics were discussed and well, we all seem like a passionate bunch!

Neil Craig was the first main speaker of the evening and reiterated the disappointment felt from our semi-final loss to Collingwood. He said it was a game he felt we 'Could've or should've won'. In terms of the current playing group he thinks that it is a strong character based group and that they had an 'Exceptional pre-season attitude' thus far. Looking ahead the Club is keeping their expectations high for season 2010.

He briefly touched on our current crop of injured players noting that Nathan Bock should be running and training next week as will Ben Rutten. Nathan van Berlo has been earmarked to commence training in the first week of January and Brad Moran is expected to return in the second.

The new draftees, albeit Sam Shaw who is in Victoria for a school commitment, were then introduced. Before he individually welcomed them to the stage, with a video highlights package included, he noted that each player was picked for a reason and that our environment is not for everyone and only players that can handle it are drafted.

Daniel Talia was introduced first and Craig mentioned that he wanted to study Sports Science and cheekily said that he would have no time to do that. Jack Gunston was presented next and his interesting fact was that he likes to water ski. Sam Shaw was noted as an ex-Head Prefect at Xavier College in Melbourne and James Craig plays guitar, likes ACDC and would most likely enjoy Neil Craig's soft rock collection. Aiden Riley was introduced last. Neil Craig also made point of mentioning that he was extremely impressed with James Craig's form on the track so far.

Next up to the stage was David Couch who looks after the membership department. He spoke mainly about numbers and cited our average attendance for 2009 as 38,801 and that the Club is aiming for a 40,000 average in 2010.

Steven Trigg followed and gave a considerable run down of the new facility and Adelaide Oval debates. He said that the new facility provides the Club with a world class way to prepare, condition and rehabilitate players, that it is inclusive through tours and provides an increased availability and ability to hold functions and that it was the best option for the Club to grow their business in a relatively low risk way.

He then made point that no other club in the AFL can cater to 3,100 supporters plus an additional 3,000 supporters at the SANFL facility for post match functions. He referred to the Bulldogs, North Melbourne and St. Kilda as clubs who receive grants and pump their money back into footy and not their fans.

He acknowledged that there would be a greater demand for the new shed and that the Club saw it as fitting to reward Gold Members first of all. Their shed allowance may be capped at 3,000, depending on demand, allowing for 100 spots that could be divided between Silver Members, other membership holders and match day ticket holders. He stressed that the Club didn't want fans to be leaving their seats at three quarter time to line up for entry and while the novelty is there this is the best way to do it.

Finally, he moved on to speaking about the proposed Adelaide Oval redevelopment. He basically said that the Club will not leave AAMI Stadium unless it will be significantly better off at Adelaide Oval. This is clearly understood by the AFL, SANFL and State Government. He noted that it was an awkward position for the Club to be in considering the recent dollars spent on the stadium and new facility and that the Club would not move unless we were "Demonstrably better off".

He said that it wasn't happening because of Port but for political will to put $450mil on the table to produce a stadium. Yet there is no money for AAMI as the AFL see football in the CBD as a way of the future. FIFA was also considered.

He continued to say that it puts the Club in a most awkward and compromised position and that it would lose its uniqueness, of things like the new facility, and that it aggravated him. For a move to happen every point has to be ticked off the Crows list which would then mean that the Club would be better off at Adelaide Oval. There are still many issues to be sorted out including car parking, which the Club is insisting on being the same capacity at AAMI, and the residents of North Adelaide also need to be considered.

In question and answer time he said that the Club cannot be forced to go to Adelaide Oval as the AFL would not allow us to go somewhere where we are worse off. The Club's license agreement also has to be factored in. Talk about the capacity of only 50,000 was brought up and Trigg said that every additional seat added on to that would cost $10,000. To have the Club better off at Adelaide Oval there would also have to be a similar facility to ours for functions.

Then comparing the Club's chances of leaving to betting terms he said that in a 50/50 split on whether the Club would move or not that it was slightly less likely the Club would play games at Adelaide Oval. In conclusion it was said that the SANFL have to be seen to look at all offers and that they respect us and the Club simply wouldn't leave unless they were better off.

Trigg also quickly touched on the controversy over the new logo and jumper. He simply asked for everyone to give it 12 months and to see what their opinion was then. He said the Club wanted to wear the home strip as often as possible as its our heritage and that the Club attempted to minimise the white in the away jumper as much as possible with blue.

The evening then finished off with a free drink upstairs on the 19th floor. The museum and the boardroom were free to wander through as well.

CG I assume you were the chick in the back corner. Not to hard to tell when about 5 people in there were under 30 :(

I'd even go as far as saying under 40 :p

But it was disappointing there weren't more young people there. I think there needs to be a good mix of all demographics to get a variety of opinions etc.

Maybe if they let James Craig DJ the event and have some good music going it would help?

It's like that every year unfortuntly. Have you been to any in the past?
The club also puts it on at a awkward time so younger people who work cant make it. Plus they keep it fairly quiet

Nah I haven't this was my first and I only heard about it from you, I think it was, on here about a week ago.

95% of people in there would have to turn their hearing aids up to hear what music was on
I'd go to it if it were here, but I can't imagine it would be thrilling. Stuff like introductions of the rookies is a nice touch that would hekp, but I don't think their after number for the agm, would still be nice to get some youth there.

Maybe they should hold the AGM in a room that's up a flight of stairs?

Really appreciate the reports you two :thumbsu:

It seems more likely that Craig simply got Talia's height slightly wrong if he said he was 195cm and Craig towered over him. Craig is a massive man though. Interesting that they've backed him in to have a big impact next season - presumably that means they expect him to leapfrog at least three of Moran, Maric, Sellar and Griffin in one season.

Also glad to hear that they're very strong on not moving from AAMI unless it's made really desirable to do so. It'd be good to see the Crows dig their heels in for a change to get something out of this situation :thumbsu:

Hopefully they're right about the injured players coming back no later than middle January.

I'll try to head down to training tomorrow and see what I can see. Wonder if Shaw will be back yet?

Maybe Stabby, that was AFC being tricky in the draft. You can't hide players very easily anymore, but perhaps it's possible to fudge their measurements.:D;) So JC is really 198 to 200cm. Either that or he was wearing platforms!!!:)

Rendell's even sneakier than I gave him credit for!! ;)

CG, what do you mean?
  • What is the difference between the Adelaide Football Club Limited AGM, which you say ran for 14 minutes, and the annual members meeting, which you and Chief Crow have reported on?
  • Who attended the "Crows own AGM"?
  • Was everyone allowed in?
  • Did everyone who attended the public meeting have access to the reports tabled at the real AGM?
I'm trying to get my head around this issue.

On the "Crows Post Reduced Surplus" thread I have a post about the fact that the AFC is not a sporting club controlled by the laws governing sporting bodies, but a Limited Company under Federal Laws monitored by the federal Corporate watchdog, ASIC. I noted that the financial report quoted by the papers was available for purchase from links to the ASIC site for $55, but not apparently distributed at the public meeting.

Then the AFC website has posted an article about AFC's finances for 2009 which finishes with the interesting statement:
"... The financial result was delivered at the Club’s AGM today at 5pm, followed by a presentation at the annual members meeting."
The meeting that you guys attended and are reporting on, that NC presented the new players to, that everyone is discussing, is referred to by you and everyone else as an "AGM". Was it? Did the two meetings run consecutively, both open to all?

Everyone who has been part of a sporting club, a church or school, or any other organisation knows what an AGM is. But what is an "annual members meeting"? Was this explained at the meeting?

Sorry for the dramatics, I'll try and get down there myself next year, but in the meantime I am relying on you. If it was all open, NP. I am a bit concerned though, because the AFC correspondence and website seems to be hiding the Corporate AFC and promoting a possibly fictictious Sporting Club AFC.

macjoe- the club have 2 AGM's. The 1st one is board members which runs short and sweet with details of finance. It is not open for public. The 2nd AGM follows straight after for the public where more details and info is given to the crowd.

To those who knew nothing about the event, I posted it in the 'new shed thread' last week to let posters know about it. Next year I will make a new thread to advertise it if you guys want.

Stabby it was Talia himself who said he was 195cm when asked :thumbsu:
