What is going on with our defensive skills, we aren't just leaking down back, we are hemorrhaging!!!!

The days of keeping opposition teams under 10 goals are becoming but a fleeting memory!!!!

Our kicking in is slow and cumbersome with no system or set plays, and our lack of run down back sticks out like dog's balls. Our tackling and blocking is sadly missing as is our overall pressure on the ball carrier.

Is Ben Hart the man for the job????

Defence isn't nowhere like it used to be even 2 years ago. They all push up now and form part of the zone. Once the zone is busted the defence is exposed tremendously and there are often loose players. The idea is that the ball is not supposed to get that far.

I am more concerned about our lack of run once we have the ball rather than defensive actions.

Johncock would have taken McGlinn and make him hurt both ways.

on numerous occassions McGlynn just sat in the forward 50 on his own, I think their HFF kicked 8-10 goals between them and last week we had issues with the small forwards getting behind our defence, issues are

1 Lack of Accountability
2 Breakdown of the zone
3 Turning the ball over in our midfield

Granted Otten and Stiffy are out however it is time to find another running defender that can run the lines and use the footy

At one point our backline was Truck, Bock, Young, Hentsch, Goodwin and Dogga. We were ****ed the moment that happened. You can't be that top heavy anywhere on the ground, but particularly in the backline. Put Otten, Johncock and Symes back there and they look more balanced. I felt for Youngy and thought that was an appalling selection, how can you lose VB and replace him with Young when he clearly has no opponent in the opposition forward line. who'd have thought that McGlynn would lose a lumbering first gamer

100% on the mark. Surely, Van Berlo wasn't going to be down back so why was Young bought in for him. If Van Berlo did play, who was going to play down back - that had me stumped all day.

Missing Symes and Johncock. Two very good and very underrated players. Van Berlo or even Sloane could have done a job but of course they are injured. We were too big in defence. What is wrong with dogga?

Now that you zone, you don't flood opposition defence's. Flooding is what caused your defence to be so miserly in the past.

What has happened now is that the zone is a lot higher relative to the positioning of the ball. Effectively the zone covers about a kick and a half from where the ball is, and moves with the ball. It is fantastic if you can keep it in there, but when it is busted the opposition kicks ridiculously easy goals.

Where to position the loose man now, is something that seems to be confusing the coaching staff.

As NC mentioned in the presser, what is killing us are the turnovers across half forward. The defence doesn't have time to set up the zone and there are free players everywhere. Myke Cook, Richard Douglas and Will Young all made costly errors that cost us 5-6 rebound goals. Remove those errors and suddenly its a much closer game.
