Agree, it's things like socks up (it just doesnt feel like Brent Harvey when he has his sicks up to his knees) or long sleeves that really add to the authenticity of a game.

The fact a couple of these things arent included is a major disappointment

Socks up and down are included. I have personally gone through each team and picked players who have socks up and those who have socks down (to the best of my knowledge and from video/photo referencing).
Sleeved jumpers are about to go in. Trust me, I am a stickler for the little things and I'm trying my best to get it as close as we possibly can.

I know it can but our budgets and dev team numbers are no way at the level of EA. Our only hope is with next gen title funding. I can't stress this enough.

would it be that difficult to implement though?

edit. just saw above post. nice. :)

Oh ok, thats awesome cheers mate. I remember in the dark old days of NBA Live (before it got good) some of these little things that created the sense of individuality were ignored and the game suffered. It has really taken off since little touches like headbands, knee high socks and other things that distinguished real life players were added to suit their actual style.

I mean FFS, in this years NBA2K6, we can adjust the colours of the covers that protect the players' shoelaces    . Obviously that is probably takling it too far.

I dont know about anybody else, but I am genuinely enthused by this game. I didnt bother getting last years effort, but will certainly get this years.

So your budget can't afford a little feature of socks up/down, guernseys in/out.

It's things like these being left out because of your 'budget', that make these gmes feel so half a****.

You'll see on the game credits (should you get a copy) that we are a really small dev team working on AFL so getting something like that in would require a lot of man hours we have allocated to other things like gameplay and the implementation of new features like tactics and player development. It was a case of weighing one thing against another in a lot of areas and whether we could get something done in time. I hate making excuses though...I think what we have achieved is bloody great given our time, budget and team size.

I've just grabbed a copy of 2006 FIFA World Cup (on Xbox) and all I can say is those guys know how to create an atmosphere for an event...sheesh! What I'd give to have the resources at their disposal!

AFL needs better graphics of players, compare it to Fifa 06 or Cricket 2005.
Needs Dermie and Christie to say more ( like who gets the votes at the end of each game and would someone change the way the Brownlow votes are worked out.
It is based on the player who takes the most marks and kick goals,
for example, Player A can take 12 marks and not kick any goals and Player B takes 8 marks and kicks 6 plus goals and he gets best on ground, Midfielders don't get a lookin, which is not realistic.

Also bring back stats tables after each round.

Last one/. An adjustable camera angle / view. i.e the ability to zoom in or out from the default would be good.

Just my 5 cents worth!

Will BigFooty be mentioned at all on the credits? :p

I dunno about other people but i think it would be harder to make an AFL game rather then a game of Soccer, Basketball etc,

The skills in soccer and basketball are pretty simple

for a socca game, kick the ball, eg the goal kick button, pass along the ground, pass in the air lob etc, then head the ball, tackle people eiether sliding/standing.

as well as a few other aspects but they seem pretty simple.

Basketball, shoot the ball, pass the ball, rebound it, dunk it etc

For a footy game theres the 36 players on the field at one time, theres the position of players for a mark, spoils, tackling which can be high,in the back , holding the man, holding the ball, ball up, throwing the ball , clean handball to space or to a player, a hurried kick to no body/your player/oppisition, a well directed kick to your player.

There is a lot of variables in our game and it just can't be covered in one game i think. Even little things like players holding each other in the goal sqaure which happens 95 percent of the time the ball gets kicked down to a FF, could not be put into a game becuase if it was people would complain about stuipid free kicks all the time. The game is near impossible to perfect and we shouldn't judge so hard, well 05 deserved a lot of it but 04 P.E wasnt that bad.

Contested marks don't happen often these days and theres only a few forwards in the game today that can take them EG matty richo, therefore eiether contested marks should be pretty much eliminated out of the game to make it more realistic or we have contests were players like richo can't be stopped.

And theres one part of the game that will never be realistic is the team lists the nature of the game means the lists allways change within a year or so.

Socks in Socks out, jumpers in or long or short who cares, what i want in an AFL game is the enjoyment of playing and doing what is best about our game, taking marks kicking goals, making spoils , getting out of the backline in tight situations etc it shouldnt make a difference what kind of jumper somone wears.

Contests in marking situations which it should be , one on one marking duels should be a 50 50 chance and timing everything , and when its a 2 -1 it should be harder to get the mark, apart from that Stats is the next important, its allways handy to know who is dominating and how to stop them etc that is the main important parts of the game.

We should be lucky we even get a chance to play a game of our great sport on these consoles and imo no matter how good or bad the graphics and socks and jumpers look like etc, its better than playing a boring game of soccer where u do the same things over and over for a whole game and end up scoring 2 goals a game, there is no skill in soccer games

How about on the hard level, make the game hard, NOT FRIGGIN IMPOSSIBLE. I can't take a damn step without getting tackled and getting called for holding the ball. Can't take a friggin mark.

Make the game realistic. Look at other sports games like those from EA Sports, 2K Sports. The games those companies make a brilliant.

Gee you have changed your tune. This is from a post you started last week.

More big promises (check out the games board) about realistic gameplay and awesome graphics. But every year, we are left disappointed. They will never get it right.

I aint buying it this year and neither should any of you.

FH, I don’t think you will ever be getting a bigger development team given that you have gotten rid of half your market. If amazes me that the Xbox and Pc have been left off - sorry to harp on about it but I just cant see any reason why any Australian developer would get into bed with a single platform -especially when there is no overseas market for their game.

FH, I am not blaming you but surely someone in your organisation needs their head read...and with this I must say that everything I have heard seem positive but it just seems that you company seems to make one bad decision after another and I just cant trust the final product.

I know you company has probably looked at Pc and Xbox sales for Afl 2005 but you must remember that we are not stupid because everyone was panning the PS2 version - even EB salesman- and with the other releases being months behind - everyone knew what a dog the game was - and thus didn’t buy. And when you look at it most PS2 sales would have been from the initial hype - not one person on the planet would regard afl 2005 a must have or must keep.

You wont win my trust back anyway because I will probably never play this game (as IMO the PS2 is for little girls)...so my final memories of you guys will be AFL 2005 - I think you owe it to all the people you screwed for 100 bucks to give them a product worthy of payment on their platform.

I really believe that for the good of AFL these game need to released on every platform possible.

If your company is now the lap dog developer of Sony then, sadly, I hope the game moves to another company in the near future - one that wants to make a good AFL game for everyone.

Its the AFL who have the deal with sony right , not IR ??

If you want the game to be made by another company or the rights to it so it can go on other platforms it won't be an AFL game then, it would be like ricky pontings cricket, fake names, fake uniforms etc

So they are lap dogs of Sony...I am happy to play with C.Mudd or A.Gblett or N.White ... as long as I can play an AFL game...

PS//Give me RPIC over Cricket 2005 anyday!!!!

No they are a company who was paid to make an AFL game by Sony in that instance.

I'm getting mixed messages from FH.

I think the general thing is that Sony have "exclusive" rights, which may mean they will release the game a few months or so on other platforms after the PS2 release.

You'd think Sony would have rocks in their heads if they didn't.

Nah, they'd be mad to.

While yes, they would make more money from the AFL deal if they did, it would hinder them in the bigger struggle, and I don't mean the battle being fought out for gaming consoles, but the bigger battle for blu-ray.

The screenshots are pretty good (boot shape is a little iffy though). The box is pretty cool I like it how all the players (1 from each team) are all vying for the ball in a big pack. How cool! I liked 2004s box the best but hey its the game that matters.

P.S 2004s box rules

im pretty sure Simon Black is a lefty, in one of the screenshots it looks he is kicking off the right...

Yes and id like to point out that he is also not an aboriginal... At least this game is only going to be $79.95.
