The story of last night wasn't a halfback flanker racking up some cheap touches but how the Lions shut down the Collingwood surge by disrupting the passing lanes, as they say in basketball. Other teams are going to go to work on the tape from last night.

I don't know who the best young player is in the game atm ... in about five years time when they are making threads about who is the best out of [insert three influential mids here like they did with Voss Buckly Hird etc) it may be that Daicos and Ashcroft will be two of them or they may have burned out, been cruelled by injury, or overtaken by others with greater talent.

We still won't know then (so who was the best out of Voss, Buckly and Hird  ) but at least we will have a decent body of work to go with and a general consensus that they should be in the conversation.

If folks are, five years from now, still pointing to his squib and seagulling vs Brisbane in '23 then great as he has overcome that and moved on ... if everyone has forgotten because he turns into a professional squib and seagull and meh that just how he rolls well there will be plenty more material for gifs in the future.

btw if you have to choose a narrow range to prove your point you are already losing the debate (eg Player x had the BEST game 3, 10, 14, 23, 25 and 30 of ALL TIME!)

38 touches and 2 goals mate. How many 20 year olds are doing that?

Just for some perspective 18yo Ashcroft had 31D 9C 1G and 1G assist in his second game V Melbourne. The quickest in AFL history to do so 2 games in. Literally unprecedented. If not for the blackout his stats would have likely been even more impressive.

Billy, he isn’t even the best first year player this year. Let it go.

No one isn’t saying Ashcroft isn’t going to be a gun, because he will be. What frustrates me is the hate for these 2 players. Pure jealousy is all it is.

The conversation went down the path of stupid when you expected people to believe Richmond kicking 3 junk time goals was the same as what the Lions did yesterday.

Pies well and truly had Richmond’s measure all night last week.
using run to kick to the hot spot 25m out while the Collingwood defence was running forward was the plan for the night last night. Just look at how many goals Brisbane scored from that area agains the pies. Very similar to the tactic employed by Richmond in the last 15 mins of the Collingwood game.

No doubting Collingwood were the better side against Richmond for almost the entire night.
But they found something out that highlighted a weakness in their plan in that last 15 mins.

Honestly don’t know if you genuinely believe what you’re writing.

2 of your last 3 goals came from low % set shots, one of which was a free involving Jack flopping.

No Oscar was ordinary. it's just a convenient excuse for being thrashed
4th highest possession tally of his career (18), 3rd highest amount of hitouts in his career (43), 3rd highest number of clearances in his career (11), 2nd most i50s of his career (5). He was bloody terrible I tells ya!

The mental gymnastics required to criticise Nick or to cast him in an unfavourable light is highly amusing.

I think the way people shift the goalposts around Nick speaks to how good he is already.
