So we can conclude Training mode, along with single player mode just never existed and they’ve taken us for a ride since day 1 I swear this mob never fails to deliver on failing to deliver.

They completely stop once they're handed the ball, in reality and older AFL titles the player bolts away once they receive the ball.

Evasion and moving where you want to go is a fundamental component of the sport or any game for the matter, to take that away means the game is broken. You can't simulate even a basic part of the sport, and how they have not fixed it in 5 months is astonishing. Especially since there's a long line of below average AFL games that at least got that basic mechanic right.

Not really, I mean no one has heard anything from the company about the game lately, let alone anything about future plans... Which most would be sceptic about now anyway. Not having a crack at you or your opinion but Ross really dropped the ball on this one.

I'd love to know the behind the scenes production story behind 23; it's reminiscent of the release of AO Tennis 1. I was reading some old reviews of the company to make sense of it, apparently production on their games are rushed without real direction/clear goals. Really would love to hear from one of their developer's.

If you can’t see that AFL23 is a game with better future potential than most of the games before it, you’re kidding yourself

Live 2011 easily had the best potential to build off a really good sequel. Evo 2 sorta added some things to the Live 1 design, like sliders (Evo 1 introduced I believe), better contested play/fending (although, quite lacking, ie no real grappling mechanic, no gang tackles or mark fumbling), pressure gauge and a ruck hud. 23 is so under developed, it's a mess, and needed to be more advanced with its gameplay. Broken movement mixed with the dated kick, mark, goal design of the IR Gurus games from the 2000's. The irony being, Big Ant pioneered the hand ball and run gamestyle with Live 2011, strange they regressed back to the 2000's style of AFL games.

An equally as bad component of this game to me is also how usually in the exact same passage of play, the players up the ground all circulate to a spot, disperse from it and do it again 10m up the ground. This game plays nothing like footy does in 2023.

I’ve agreed that the stuck in the mud issue is still an issue and needs fixing.

Players stop when they receive a handball only when you’ve handballed to a player who has their back to you (which makes total sense, if you did this in reality the same thing would happen)

I’m not saying you should pay money for a game with issues like stuck in the mud, I’m saying the current gameplay is a great starting point to build on in the future in terms of adding gang tackling, pack marks etc.
The reality with small time sports games is that you’re paying for something that starts out ok and gradually gets better with each iteration

If a small time company can't release the game as they advertise it or it's not how their CEO explains it at a release then don't make the promises and then don't charge $100 which is more then a 2K or EA sports game.

Really? So the most in depth management mode of any AFL game exists? Written on the box!

The most realistic AFL game to date? Really? How realistic is it that players run around in circles or stop dead on the spot or only have 1 on 1 marking contests? Where players still teleport from out of no where? I could go on but can't be bothered typing!

If you're happy with a subpar game where the CEO stated on numerous occasions about how good it will be then I'm happy for you. If you're happy paying $100 for that then I'd hate to see what else you're happy to pay an inflated price for.

I'd be happy paying $100 for a game that plays as advertised and also included the modes and those modes were as advertised. This wasn't released like that and some 7 months later is still not where it was promised. I purchased game relying on the statements from the CEO thinking it was as Ross had stated it was going to be. I'm not going to purchase a game with the hope that months/years from now it may be where it should've been in the first place. It's ridiculous to think that the majority of people purchased the game knowing it was not going to be as advertised.

They’d love to be as good, but never will be. It’s not the same as seeing them as competition. Therefor it’s not a debate worth talking about.
Ross wouldn’t have said anything of the sort if he didn’t mean exactly how it sounded.

It looked wonky and far more broken before release. They kept saying that it was a build from a long time ago, then for some reason the defenders of the game were saying that the beta version was amazing, when we were all skeptical about it before May.

Actually mate, him saying he sees 2K/EA as his competition was completely ridiculous. Its a 1st attempt at a new gen sports game from an indy company. Not a single person would’ve assumed this game would be on par with NBA/FIFA when they’ve both got probably 10x the budget and are yearly iterations going back almost 30 years now. The proof is in the pudding when you play AFL 23. By all means keep defending Ross and the game, but as you can see you’re in the minority of people who think this game is smooth, fun and on par to be ‘a great foundation for future versions’. Ross should’ve not compared this game at all since its a 1st attempt but here we are.

Can’t find the option anywhere and It’d be pretty dumb if I can’t considering I’ve signed some players on rather large contracts. Not like it’s an import feature missing if it’s not there though...

Not even compared to 2K/Konami/EA, etc, compare it to the older AFL titles it's worse and doesn't function compared to those. Read the company reviews, it may tell the story behind why that is.

It was definitely said in the context of not wanting to compare the game to Wicked Witch. It was hubris and after being called out about it, he packed up his bat and ball and went home.

I've got no skin in this - I've never played the game. I probably should pay the hundred bucks to someone though, because I've got a fair amount of entertainment from these threads
