WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

Everything will be fine.

What we played tonight won't be anything like what Is out day 1.

For all we know those kits were months old.

The bits they have to tweak in game seems like they are all across it.

Ratings of players as I said are NOT real. They were just a champion data extraction and will be tweak for the released game.
Thank you, I appreciate your response.

I don’t have a clue, but I also don’t understand why they wouldn’t have wanted to showcase the latest version of the game tonight? If it’s such an early dev, my question is why?

With all respect I just think it has the long road of months and months of patches, same as Cricket 22, written all over it.

PS- Todd Marshall rated higher than Brodie Grundy, what a joke.
Just to use this as a starting point and final point. Ratings are literally not close to final, take that as gospel.

I've got near final ratings that have players swapped 50 places in a list (up and down). The ratings in the build were some of the earliest translations from CD that haven't been worked into the ratings system for the game, but at the same time, you don't want completely random results as well (which is what you use as placeholder in lieu of having something). There's a ton of alterations that will be there for the final game.

Usually they would run an older, tested reliable build so there is less chance of it crashing during the demo is my guess.

Oh man, I didn't think I would ever have to do this, but we need to address the controversy. Let me start by apologizing to jdobs95 you never told me what bar so I couldn't turn up, I needed to find something else to do tonight.

Hahahahah, but yes I was in attendance at the event, I snuck in with the other guys shhhhhh. Thank you to all who attended, everyone I got to spend time with was amazing. I had loads of fun and I hope you guys did too. HKB and I appreciate all the good conversations we had. So you've all seen lots now. It's been great reading all 20 pages or so from tonight, I appreciate hearing all the things you guys thought were cool, as well as the things you have some criticism about and we hear you. I will be monitoring closer than normal over the next few days to read everything that comes out and watch all the content from creators that will go up so we can make sure we onboard as much feedback as possible.

Im sure Ross will come on when he gets some time and make some comments. But I just wanted to jump on thanking all the people who were watching the streams and those who we got to spend some time with.

As for many things, this was not the final product. Ratings are 100% not final, but hey keep up the conversations about them we find them intriguing to read.

I don't think it was super early, but it might be something where you just have to pick your cutoff mark to then get everything across onto that many dev kits.

There will be others that might have a better theory then me.

I get your point, but I also trust BigAnt know what they are doing and what they were comfortable with for tonight

I think you'll find that it's not uncommon for devs to showcase older (more stable builds). Big Ant are likely busting their chops working on the game up until launch. Makes sense to focus on polish than a updated build for 3 hours of use this close to release.

Secondly, and I say this with no disrespect, but as media you kinda get a feel for these events and what to expect, whereas general public will be less forgiving

Thank you for your time explaining this

How much does get patched up or added, after today? Will new gameplay features, possibly gang tackles, collision system, new motion capture or score reviews be added in, later through patches?
