ANU don't seem to have forfeit troubles during Uni holidays. I appreciate ADFA & RMC issues and understand they do request certain dates at start of year but geez, it is a open senior comp not a schoolboy carnival and these teams are the minority. Harman used to have similar issues but have recruited civilians to compensate. The other clubs have always had requests to change games to suit the military sides but it will often be a disadvantage to play midweek when you have another match on the weekend. Once the draw is done everyone just has to cope.

Who cares about adfa it is what it is if they win the comp you will all be wishing they forfeited 3 times. They have two teams in the comp and cant raise one for the two rounds that they forfeit so to bad so sad.
How many times do you see other sides run out short of numbers they dont forfeit.Gee i hope we dont go to war on there leave weekends we will have to ask the opposition can we fight during the week the government is flying us home this weekend .ADFA (another dam forfeit again).

Very closed minded guys about ADFA. These guys are there to be trained for the military and they work very hard during the year to do so. It is a good release for them to play sport within the Civilian community and I hope it continues. It is very difficult for the teams from ADFA and RMC to bring in civilians to play due to rules and liability which the military stand by. Harman are slightly different because they are an actual military establishment that have different rules to a Defence Training facility when it comes to civilians.

Plus don't put ANU in the same category as ADFA or RMC because i'm pretty sure if ANU funded all the students their flights or travel home plus incidentals for a few weeks they would jump at the chance of getting out of Canberra. I know I would.

On another note.

Thanks to the Big Footy forum and David Wark for coming onto the forum earlier this month to speak about the Malrooney Medal night, David has agreed to hold a seperate night for Canberra District this year. Details will obviously come out soon about the dates, venue, pricing etc. AFL Canberra will require some help from all clubs on the night and also setting up the evening so can you please ask all your clubs to put some hands up for who would be available to help David and his team with the CD MM Night? If you have some people interested let me know and I'll send you my e-mail details to arrange further correspondence.

What are peoples thoughts on the type of function we should hold for the MM night.

1. Same as before - People come in and pay $5-$10 per head and receive some finger food and the presentation.

2. More formal with a sit down meal for around $30-$40 per head.

3. Formal with sit down meal for around $30-$40 per head.

Im for the formal idea its very important now that david and co have obliged us that we be correct and show the respect that the districts deserve just my thoughts for what its worth

I've never been to the AFL Canberra B&F night, but what sort of CD numbers have they had in previous years?
Might it not be a bit late in the year to be trying to drum up support for this kind of thing?
I'd be more inclined to wait until next year, to make a bigger deal of it right from the start of the season so all of the clubs get a chance to get behind it and promote it in-club so there is a decent crowd come the night.

Tips for this weekend:
Div 3.
Belconnen
Harman
Murrumbidgee
Woden
ANU

Div 4.
Goulburn
Cootamundra
Murrumbidgee
Yass
ANU

Good luck to all teams for the final home-and-away round.
Extra good luck to the poor sods playing on Sunday (BOM forecast "Sleet showers. Maximum 7 degrees" Sounds fantastic)!

Shanofos, It's the same each year mate on around the finals time. When we just had it for the CD comp without Premier league the numbers weren't bad but it was just finger food and went for an hour or so. Speak to people you know and book a table mate when the details come out. Should be a good night.

Round 18 tips...

Div 3

- Belco to inflict another triple-figure margin massacre on Ainslie
- Gunjee Jets, with their superior fitness from constantly running up and down hills at Ken Zimmer Oval, to prove that they deserve to be in the finals by beating the Hogs by 5 goals
- Murrumbidgee by 97 points over Tuggers; if BigHill takes the soft option and only plays one half then Bidgee by 37 points (he'll kick 5 per quarter)
- Lakers to upset the erratic Blues for the 2nd time this year
- ANU to beat ADFA and scrape into the Top 4; ADFA will therefore be in the Top 4 for every single round bar the final one!

Div 4

- injury-ravaged Jets to scramble over the line against the Swans
- Coota at home over the Lakers
- Cooma to just get over the Bidge
- Yass to beat the Hogs
- ANU to stitch up ADFA

Gidday fellow District supporters (are their any ACTWAFL people on here?)

Have watched for a while and decided it is time to jump in and get the toes wet. (a part of me that does not see much daylight since retirement).

Have spoken to David Wark and seperate CD Presentation Night for Div 3, 4 and Women is now scheduled for Belconnen Labor Club on Monday 25th August which is the week before our Grand Finals at Ainslie Oval. I offered to assist with arrangements and suggested there might be several others from CD Clubs that were like minded. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

David has currently proposed a finger food style affair which might cost $15 per head. I suggested a 1 course sit down meal which David thought might cost $22-$23 per head (to be confirmed).

Given late stages for arranging this years event I think we are limited in how much change to format we can get (eg more formal sit down style) but perhaps we can survey participants and arrange earlier for next year.

I will email seperately to Club contacts but need confirmation of preference to David by Monday. Can people please respond on the forum or via email to me and your Club President. Cheers :)

Good work Boof(tastic)

I had a yarn to our committee about it, and we are very confident we will easily get 10 or more to the event.

Belco Labour Club? Out of curiosity, do they sponsor any of the CD's clubs or AFL in Canberra at all?

Why not the function room at Manuka oval? They serve beer and pies don't they??? Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the Labour Club 'cause I'm on the good side of town, but wouldn't MO have been the logical choice? Is it booked for something else or just too expensive?

Canberra Labor Club have just been announced as Naming Rights sponsor to AFL Canberra competition for the remainder of 2008 and all of 2009. See the article in the latest AFL Canberra Record.

In regards to forfeits etc teams should given pts for competing/turning up.

winner awarded 6 pts

draw 4 pts

loss 2 pts

forfeit 0 pts & % adjustments

This system is used in other sports, any thoughts?

Youdogs your point system has merit not sure the afl are all that unhappy with the current system though.:rolleyes:Booftastic about time you came out of the closet!!! :DShould be a miserable weekend to finish of the home and away season rrrrrr footy dont you just love it.To all those footy freeeks thinking of retiring after this round dont do it just drop back a grade :)seriously though all the best if thats your plan:thumbsu: Stay safe people

Belconnen "comfortably" over Ainslie this afternoon. Other results please.....

From all accounts Ainslie were pretty much on Mad Monday already. Super performance from the pies though - I think it's the highest score this year. Ominous form coming into the finals.

Can anyone confirm the qualification rules? The basic threshold still needs to be 4 games in a grade to get a game, regardless of who is playing on the weekend, yeah?

Ainslie already had a keg set up under the grandstand and the beers were flowing as the last of the Magpies players left the ground.

Ainslie Oval (as expected) is in great condition. There is no hill in the middle (KZO), no centre mudpit or concrete deck (Jamo, depending on whether it is wet or dry), free from drug paraphanalia (Kambah) and no home team advantage - just perfect for finals footy:thumbsu:

Div 3 jets 109 harman 65 ( wonder why harmen played div2 qbn boys against yass in the 4s istead of the 3s)
Div3 juggs 153 tuggers 24(hill must only played 2minutes and kicked 4)

Div 4 jets 102 swans 55 (kicked 5/5 in the last term to swans o )
coota beat eastlake 130 to 61 (well done on sticking out a tuff yr coota)
juggs 87 beat cooma cats 27 (look out for juggs next year after a rebuilding year this year any body no if rodgers is staying on).

So that means we no that next saturday Belco play the jets in the thirds
and Yass play the jets in the fours on saturday.
On sunday juggs play the winner out of todays game between adfa and anu in the thirds and Belco play the swans in the fours.

3rd Grade.

Belco vs Jets on Saturday
Juggs vs ADFA on Sunday.

ADFA smashed ANU today at ADFA oval. Should be two cracking games at Ainslie oval.
