Might be Harry Thring. he has been carving for Belco.
Spanner is looking at playing for ANU. He has put a request for transfer in with Gungahlin.
So any predictions on the final series this year?

Since this is a 4th grade thread as well I thought I'd try to generate a bit on that.
Clearly Yass are the biggest improvers of 2008 - haven't lost yet and apart from a couple of close ones at 3 quarter time, haven't looked like losing. Anyone out there from the Yass club who can shed some light on your big turn around? Being finals bound, how long has it been since you played finals?
The Jets are looking solid in 2nd but then they finished minor premiers last year and were belted out of the finals in straight matches. Surely they will have learnt a bit from last years finals campaign and will fair better this year if they make it.
Belco are there as usual and will no doubt be a threat come finals time - although without the quirk in the by laws to help them this year that could make it tougher. Nevertheless, they are clearly the third best side in the comp at the moment and I can't see them dropping out of that spot.
Harman make up fourth spot but in reality Murrumbidgee, Goulburn, Eastlake and ADFA could all take fourth by the end of the season. I think ANU have left their run too late and it looks as though Cooma and Coota are no chance.
So my top four for fourths is Yass, Jets, Belco and Murrumbdgee to sneak in fuelled by last years disappointment.
Does anyone have any favourites for the leagues best and fairest this year?
It would be hard to see someone from Belconnen win it due to them all playing so well and taking points from each other.
James Abbey from ANU has had a great year or Lawson Walsh from Murrumbidgee.
Is this Gibson for belco he was very good for them last year playing second grade.Hard for him though Axelby will take votes not only gets plenty of it alweays talkinf to umps helping them out with desicions they are not sure of this always helps then there are all the other good solid contributers they have.Good side with plenty to take votes.I do believe you are a good chance Bighill kicking bags always helps, but a player from belconnen i beleive could be in it is #4 for Belconnen he is a very good player around the ground he plays in the ruck all game and just gets lots of possesions every game and is sure to get noticed by the umpires.
The ACT District Rep Footy squad including a couple of players from Yass that played extremely well during the championships in wagga. Brendan Foran is in great form in the forward line and he could easily play 3rd Division if the opportunity was there. Ryan Cox is another fine player for Yass coming out of the back line providing them with plenty of run and voice. Ben Serafin is another good player. His hard ball gets are something that would benefit any Div4 team going around. So it's not surprising that Yass are going really well this year.
Not bad ideas however fraught with danger.Div 4 to div 3 juggers going ok now but for many years were the whipping boys tugg won 2 on end and then got pushed up we lost them for a few years and now they are back but look where they are.Danger in pushing teams up before they are ready is that a lot of stand alone teams struggle for good infrastructure.Wodens was good however the team wasn't ready for div 3 then in their first year up they proved this by struggling all year. Last year made the finals but in any one team club a couple of injuries are crippling.Great idea for 3 to 2 if clubs embrace it RMC ADFA ANU have all spent time in the div 2 comp previously but struggled enormously.Maybe the league should have embraced weston creek a little more and made them for the next couple of years the swans reserve grade side. And used their better players as top ups,Juggers could have filled up as they did for them last year.Interested in some comments.Agree, Yass seem to be doing it pretty easy at the moment. Does anyone know whether or not Div 4 premiers are supposed to be elevated to Div 3 the following season, with the Div 3 bottom place getters being relegated? (This obviously excludes clubs that field a team in both comps eg ANU, Gungahlin, Belco etc).
I remember Woden had many issues with it a few years ago (after they won 3 in a row in Div 4) and I am sure the guys who knocked it/opposed it at the time have regrets now. Whilst the Woden boys haven't been deep into finals action in Div 3, they do cause headaches for the teams at the top.
Bidgee didnt complain (that I know of) when they won Div 4 and were elevated and have gone on to be competitive in the past few seasons. BigHill I gather you are happy with the way things have unfolded?
As a talking point, what do you think of Div 3 premiers sitting up it the ACTAFL reserves (Div 2) for a season? I know ADFA did it a few years ago and struggled to win a game in two seasons (after winning two Div 3 premierships in a row). Belco did it last year and from memory they beat every side at least once in that comp except eventual premiers Queanbeyan. Probably helped them this year for the experience as well it seems. It would certainly help to fix the joke that is 5 teams in Div 2 at the moment, but at the same time might cause a stir down in the Districts comp! Thoughts anyone?????

The year the Juggers were asked to be put up into Div1 of District was a tough year with player numbers but we managed to produce two teams to compete both in Div1 and Div2 (Div3/Div4 now). The Juggs made the finals in Div 1 during their first year and have been there every year except last 2007. We are hoping to get back into the finals this year.
I can't see Yass being asked to play Div3 next season if they win Div4 this year due to their unstable player numbers due to Rugby League in the area stealling most of their juniors.
I can't see any team from Div3 being elevated to Premier Reserve Grade either next year unless they were going to be competitive. AFL Canberra have asked Murrumbidgee and Gungahlin to play in the Reserve Grade but at this stage both teams are not financially or have the player skill to be competitive in Reserve Grade let alone pay for the registration fees or pay players.
spot on codola one team clubs need to be looked after, this I believe is one of the problems with the draw,Many years ago 1 team clubs used to get married up IE cooma with woden Yass with tuggers so that when teams like cooma and yass played away in canberra they played before their married team with the two comps having different numbers in their respective comps this has been hard.teams also have to travel away to cooma and coota and so on.It has made it a logistical nightmare only way to fix it would be for the married div 3 teams to travel away to make it fair for the div 4 teams never going to happen.Teams rely on what little they make in the canteen too much.If anyone does come up with a draw to suit they are a genius. Some good points there guys,
I think that it would be dire for a team like Yass to be moved straight up into Div 3 if they win a flag this year. There was a bloke from Yass who spoke on the radio last weekend and he mentioned that they are starting to get some strong foundations down there, so good on them!
The four teams in Div 4 that dont field a Div 3 team are Yass, Coota, Cooma and Goulburn. I guess you wouldnt expect/ask any of them to get promoted to Div 3 in the next few years even if they win a couple of flags down in Div 4.
The "Canberra District" comp is really quite settled at the moment, 10 teams in one comp and 11 in the other. Hopefully it can stay that way without the bureaucrats messing things up like in the ACTAFL!!!
The only other issue at the moment that I am aware of is the draw. Need examples here but I am aware of a few clubs in Div 3 who have played a few teams twice and others not at all. The other issue I get frustrated with is when a club is split up for the weekend. For example 3s play at home whilst the 4s are elsewhere. Surely the league can produce a draw that is supportive of clubs that field two teams (and in some cases a womens team). I know it is never going to be 100% right, but surely there is someone with a computer program (or paper and pencil) out there that can come up with a more club friendly draw???? A few years ago there were double headers ANU v Gungahlin, Belco v Harman or whatever where both teams played on the same day after each other.

Get reps from interested clubs to collectively develop a draw and submit that to the League for consideration. I'm sure AFL Canberra would appreciate the assistance and it would allow clubs to have some control over what the final draw looks like. Could be worth raising at the next league meeting if they still have them...
I to miss those trips epp seeing the peach trick and many others from your vast array of tricks.Long bus trips back from Tamworth, seeing people do the stupidest things they have ever done all the stories. If they do come up with a concept that works I may even come out of retirement and stretch the fabric of my very large no 16 jumper again.Lets hope that someone can come up with such a draw for div 3 and 4 Dead Eye Dick cause I do miss the "sessions" coming back from Cooma and Yass!
I think that it will be some time until reserve grade grows from 5 sides and dont think that sides who win Div 3 should move up to fill the void for a year or so.
Hats off to Belconnen last year for assisting the ACTAFL by playing two sides in reserves and being very competitive. However sides without the backing of a licenced club, large pool of players etc (as touched on by BigHill earlier) would not be competitive on or off the field against the rest of the reserve grade comp.
I still cant get over how much it costs to enter a side in the CD's comp so I would hate to imagine whats involved with a reserve grade side.
doesn't leave them longI Definately miss the coota, goulburn and Cooma trips. Let's hope one of them play in Div3 one of these days before I retire.
