From the king of Queanbeyan self promotion, who has made excuses for the past couple of months. Go on ABH, tell us about those injuries again! Some blokes choose family/work over football and should not be critisised for that, or be told by you that it is an excuse.

One obvious reason for people not playing at higher level is that they simply are not good enough! I do agree with you about the thread specifically for Canberra Distrct comments. And no doubt you will read it occassionally, as I am sure it will be more informative and we dont have to read about how injuries will cost Queanbeyan a place in the finals in 2008??

You cant be serious??

Isn't this what the thread is all about - talking about your club!

Surely your not knocking me for that?? If you are then you know absolutely nothing about posting a thread on a site.

Also as far as critisising a guy for choosing work and family over footy, I was merely pointing out that I dont want to hear the would have's, could have's and should have's. Fact is he hadn't!

And cheers for coming on here as random as you do and having the nerve to have a dig, but reality is that Im just keen to generate healthy honest discussion where as you and others are only interesting in getting a hard on over mud slinging at my expense. Pathetic and weak as piss!

ABH, dont know how you can justify having 7 qbn plyers in the side... At the moment I would only have Armstrong, Kavanagh, Dickonson all starting and Daniher coming off the bench with Illet starting.

Was out at Qnb the other week to watch the game against Tuggers, Qbn were terrible... dont know what the coaching staff were thinking letting Kickett run around doing what he likes, then went forward in the last and won the game.. speaking of kickett I noticed you ommitted him from your sqaud, I know he's been playing down back but imagine if he got the 4th-5th best defender each week as Williams does.. wouldn't go missing when things get abit tough as he did against tuggers.. plus he's the x factor.. can win a game in a quarter of footy, as you have probably witnessed for yourself..

Yeah thats a fair call Bazza, from memory I did put this side together before the Tuggers and Eastlake defeats. As mentioned I did not see the Tuggers game so I cant comment on Disco's performance but I know that he is and has been an exceptional player for many many years and he is a player and guy that I respect on and off the field.

As far as Williams, Irwin and Licker being in my 22.

The selection of Williams is totally justified as he is the leading goalkicker in the comp so I think nothing else needs to be said on him. He has runs on the board in a side that usually hit up Kav and Merv before looking at Williams. Sure he had an off day against Tuggers but everyone has those days, even Disco.

On Irwin, I think I have proven my point on his selection in previous posts but if you have another name or two you would like to throw into the ring then I will look at the mentioned players you put forward.

Licker is just a personal choice as he is one of the only players that regularly gets the ball and uses it to the advantage of his team mates. One of the best foot passes in the comp and knows how to find the footy.

Daniher consistantly racks up 30+ disposals and like Licker is probably one of the only 2 players that Qbn have that can consistantly pass the ball to a team mate. He had 37 in a losing side v Eastlake in only his second game back after an lengthy lay off. The guy has massive courage and works his backside off from down back to up forward. Great player and a champion bloke.

Appreciate your feedback:thumbsu:

ABH the district boys are about 70% of the chit chat on here, if they were gone this place would be dead. Then that would mean there would be even less people you could tell how great you were and nominate yourself for team of the year and what not. As good as you think you are, we all know Ned Sibley could out mark and play you any day of the week…. The guy is a jet!!!

To be fair TT its pretty bloody quite on here at the best of times. Almost embarrassingly so but hey if you want to read about the District league then at least now you have a choice;)

Jesus ABH even in retirement you seem to attract the atention. Sorry all for being a bit quiet of late obviously living away from Canberra i don't get to see games therefore i can't comment. This season really seems wide open from what i can gather with the blueberry pies warming as favourites (god forbid).
I understand ABH that Queanbeyan is been put through there paces at the moment a bit of a mid season heavy workload. Hope it doesn't go for to much longer as they don't want to drop too many more games before they begin to freshen up. Season could be gone.
Original you will be keen to know that young Scotty Campbell performed admirably in his brief stint in the seniors at Albury, probably has fallen victim to a side thats been out of form and that has a few of there "stars" coming back.
ABH keep up the good work on here i love it how you can still stir the crap at of anyone even behind a key board. I honestly bet some of these gutless w***ers on here have never actually stood you or even probably been on the ground. No doubt some of these guys have never made it to the top of the ACTAFL tree and probably wish they had the medals that we possess.:thumbsu::thumbsu:
Just on a foot note young Sam Daniel seems to be travelling alright in the thirds from what i gather is he finally becoming comfortable in that tall but still puny body of his.:D:D

Played against mitch on numerous occasions, agree with all that you have said, just dont think he hurts you enough on the scoreboard, would love to see him push forward abit more, but then again cant do everything.. bet you if a Illett or a Bennet had 37 in anyside they wouldnt lose.. mitch deserves to be in the 22 no doubt..

On Williams, just think he is to inconsistent and the most selfish player in the actafl.. you dont know what your gonna get week in week out.. How do you think he would go with the number 1 defender on him? or without either Armstrong and Kavanagh?

I dont think Licka is in the form of previous years, yes great disposal but there are blokes playing 2's that are good kicks and can hit targets.. I think he is just going at the moment?

Another thing, your thoughts on the supposed gun recruit Carey? Looked out of sorts against Tuggers..

A bit old for my liking, the format of the Country Champs require young/fit players who can follow up with 4 games in 3 days, not having about 10 blokes close to 30 or over...

Thoughts.

can anyone tell me how greg hair is going?
think he's having a run for queanbeyan
cheers

10 out of 40 selected players close to 30.... wow thats way too many old players  Lets not worry about the experience these "old" guys bring to the group - and with 4 games that consist of 2 x 20 minute halves, I am sure that these old guys will struggle to get through :o douche

Probably cut that to eight if my info is correct both Maher and Raadts won't play with injury.

I heard Mahary could be out for nearly the whole year... dunno what he did but must be reasonably bad - didn't know Raadtsy was injured..
Heard Maher has torn ligaments off the ankle worst than a break and Raadts has a broken wrist and some sort of thumb injury to go with it.2 big losses for the maggies.

LJ and Gobbers on the same team - Hope they have sorted everything out:)

Here is the best 22 put into positions as I see it so far this season. Im sure there are other opinions on who should be in/out and who should play where but here it is for you to pick to pieces.

Remember that current injuries was not taken into consideration just form that I have seen or read about.

FP - Hughes (Ainslie) FF - Armstrong (Qbn) FP - Williams (Qbn)
HFF - J Bennet (Belco) CHF - Kavanagh (Qbn) HFF - Maher (Belco)
W - Mcmahon (East) C - Neely (Ainslie) W - Lieschke (Qbn)
HBF - Irwin (Qbn) CHB - Clarke (East) HBF - L Bennet (Belco)
BP - Takanan (Tugg) FB - Raadts (Belco) BP - Rogers (East)

Rucks - Dickinson (Qbn), Daniher (Qbn), R. Underwood (Belco)

Int - Bourke (Ainslie), G. Underwood (Belco), C. Illett (Belco), Cooper (East)

* Cooper can play back or forward. His form in the 2 matches I have seen has been excellent. Evergreen player.
* Bourke playing could go either way as I havent seen him play this season but if Dicko went down you would need another ruckman. Maher could do it but not sure if the old body is up to it anymore.
* Clarke is versatile but after watching his battle with Kavanagh a few weeks ago he gets my nod at CHB. Best game I have seen him play in this comp against Qbn.
* Ainger is unlucky but he openly admitted after his bag against Qbn on QBNFM that he had been a little quiet prior, so I gave the nod to the more consistant Hughes. Hughes is a strong mark and reliable kick on goal.
* Williams by all reports was ordinary on the weekend but this side was picked prior to the last round as I was out of town and his form up till then was fantastic. Again he is the X Factor! Would probably get the 4th - 6th defender which makes him even more dangerous if used correctly by team mates.
* Irwin has been the most improved player out at Qbn and has played 3-4 outstanding games and deserves his selection. Can be a worry at times with misguided aggression but has blossomed this year so far under enourmous pressure down back for Qbn.
* Maher has been a great player in this comp for 15 years and he shows no sign of slowing down on form. Very versitile and a player that I admire and respect even if he doesnt know it.
* Armstrong, Kavanagh, Lieschke, Neely, Daniher pick themselves as they are truely elite players of the comp and have been for a while.
* Dickinson is easily the best tap ruckman I have seen in the comp this year and his marking around the ground and his ability to gather a ball off the ground is exceptional. Can also go forward and kick a vital goal if required.
* Takanan has been the standout for Tuggers this year, hard at it and takes no prisoners.
* Bennet Brothers again have shown consistancy time and time again. Reliable experienced players.
* Underwood Brothers are new to me and the comp but have impressed each time with their ability to win the in and under ball for their team.
* McMahon is the tall, athletic target across the middle of the park. A cool, calm and skillfull player that will be hard to match up on.
* Raadts has been the best backman in this comp for several years now, big and athletic. The general down back.
* Rogers copped abit of stick last year for his up and down performances up forward. Not as easy to play in the forward line as some people think but down back in the games I have seen he has broken even with Kavanagh and Armstrong and that is no mean feat. Has found a home down back.
* Illet is a classy player who has silky skills. Unlucky not to be in starting 18 but great to have come off the bench in a 3 way rotation.

There you have it people my best side so far this year. How will it change before the end of the season. Even if you dont agree with my selections you have to admit that its a bloody good side!!
Not bad ABH whilst I'm not one that sits on this site and sings your praises what you write seems to be fairly concise and to the point,You have obviously seen enough of the comp this year to know the players that are in form or not.Only two of your 22 missed selection in R Underwood and N Irwin, whilst I had my doubts over Irwin as expressed earlier blog he has been an improver but I'm still not surprised he missed out.As for Underwood this does surprise as does the ommission of D Love from Ainslie. All in all though this looks like a very strong squad,Does anyone know how many they actually take.Obviously there will be doubt on some as they have significant injuries Maher,Raadts.

they take 24 players for the entire carnival, but the coaches can manage them as they see fit. For example, they can play 20 blokes in the first match & rest 4, or play 19 & rest 5, or even just play 24 each game. Good to see young Troy Fenyvesi in the squad - well deserved & hope he goes well :thumbsu:

He's a fair bolter in the squad,if memory serves me he played a fair bit in the 2's last year obviously found his feet this year.

Been good for Ainslie this year as well, did he play last year because he was the token Creek player and I mean no disrespect by this.It is well known that football canberra wanted a player from every team in the squad.Besides this he had a blinder and you would think he would get another chance at this level.

No direspect intended either, last year he was the best player in a weak team and thus stood out more, this year he's playing in a better team and still holding his own, but perhaps not standing out as much because of the abilities of his team mates around him.

Bit quiet here today lads no one else with any thoughts on the rep side.Should anyone else have been included ABH named a side two of his missed I thought Crooks from Ainsloe stiff to miss his form has been terrific.Selectors maybe hoping for miracles naming injured players .Not sure why they would do this considering talk is Maher for season Raadts at least Six weeks.Been advised Love from Ainslie and possibly brother from Belco unavailable through selection in aboriginal side playing in same tournament.
