12 RICHMOND: BEN LENNON
(Northern Knights, 189cm, 80kg)
A natural. A half-forward who demands the ball and makes things happen.

THE RATIONALE: The Tigers are big fans of Lennon. They've made a habit of recruiting players with good foot skills in recent years, and he has some of the best in this group. He'll be a nice fit across half-forward dipping into the midfield, as he builds his endurance.

THE COMPLICATION: He's in the mix for Collingwood, so he may off the board. Salem and Freeman are others in the Tigers' sights, with Zak Jones a rough chance.

Lot of so called experts have us taking Lennon, will be very interesting, the first round is all over the place.

I'm just hoping FJ is being a sneaky bugger and has planned to take Acres all along. Unless Lennon is on the table. Acres is everything Lennon is but with greater speed and agility, but some injury concerns and a possible go home factor on top. Despite that I reckon he'd be a perfect contingency plan in the event both Lennon and Salem are gone.

Why's everyone gone off Aish? He was pretty much a lock to go at pick 2-3 about a month ago?

Happens every year. Recruiters watch the AFL finals and get a slap-in-the-face reminder about just how physical and tough you need to be to win in September. That sees the high-possession outside players get marked down because their AFL equivalents go missing in big games.

Salem, Freeman, Lennon are my preferences but I'm usually wrong (happy with whoever the club get).

Pick 12 + FJ means we will draft another cracking talent :thumbsu:

That is a really good point.

Sidebottom is a perfect case of drastically changing his draft position on the back of a final.

Pick 12 and practically ANYONE can draft a cracking talent. Emma Quayle > FJ IMO.

The skill lies in the ability to spot a gem beyond the first round of the Draft.

You just want him so you can yell 'move your acres' at him!

Not always the case - nailing your first round picks is incredibly important and is something we (and many other clubs) have struggled to do in the past. Thankfully FJ has been on a roll with his selections the last few drafts.

Agree that finding talent beyond the first round is important - with more development coaches, state of the art facilities and a stand alone VFL side, hopefully a lot more of our later picks will come on and push for senior selection.
