^^^ 10/10!!!

That Aker looks flawless. It's even got some of his little smile comin through

speaking of Aker - QUESTION: Celebrating after goals at all? Cut scenes, nothing, player controlled? Just curious as always

For an AFL game that is awesome!

Done a terrific job!

Does it take long to create each player? Just curious.

A very long time! Some players more than others, depending on hair, tatt's, facial features, etc... I think 5 days of art per player + photo shoot time.

We can't use stock photo's as we intend to put in scars, marks, etc... so each player is photographed instensly and features are zoomed in on. There is no "scanning" process, these are hand replicated.

He looks like his crying. Vale Aker.

Anyway, that is the best screen yet! Good work Ross.

Yep, that's the look I wanted.... I'm pretty sad for him - and for all of us as one by one the game gets trimmed of some of it's personalities....

F*ck me that would be frustrating sometimes.

Would wanna get it out this year then ;)

yeah, I think I'll put a contract out on the next guy who retires or gets fired! :)

Aker looks spot on! Great job! :thumbsu:

I agree, it's a shame to see him go. I take it he'll still be on the Dogs roster in the game though? You wouldn't want all that work and detail to go to waste after all. :)

Did you do any mo cap on these guys to capture their playing styles?

Ross, i think this is a realistic & somewhat important question. I'm not sure if you are aware of "dynamic DNA" in NBA live but basically players rankings are adjusted throughout the season depending on how well they are playing. Will anything like this be present in the AFL game? For eg. i'm sure michael barlow would have been rated quite low at the beginning of the year. For him to still be rated at the same 4 or 5 months after his debut would in my mind be a blight on the game. I understand it might have been hard to implement but i would like you to give me some sort of explanation if possible. Thanks very much for your time.

honestly farley thats a lot of work for little gain to do that imo, especially in the games first incarnation.

I was thinking about this and thought what would be cool would be if twice or three times a season (maybe at round 1 if the game is realeased before the new season, and then at round 11, and possibly after 22 rounds) there was a downloadable update that would update the team with their current starting lineup/22. Otherwise you would find that as the real life season progressed the default teams in the game would be drastically different to what was actually being sent out each week. Obviously an extension to this would be to also update the player stats to reflect improvement (e.g. Barlow) or decline.

Gee, it would be alot of wasted time and money if this game wasn't released this year then...

I don't know why everyone is getting so excited about the player faces. Sorry to be a negative number, but you're only going to see those faces in cutscenes. Making good looking player faces, especially for easily recognisable players like Aker and NN, is relatively easy compared to the animation of the body movement which is what you will see for most of the game.

I want to see videos or at least a few images of the players in action before I get excited about the graphical aspect of the game. Then of course there is the gameplay...

Wow, that pic of Aker is amazing! The most realistic looking one yet IMO.

I can tell this is going to be one of those games where I spend more time in replays looking at players faces than actually playing the game, lol.

If nothing else, the snippets should indicate that we are committed to the game and have allocated a very high budget, more than double the budget of the previous AFL games.

I do think it's a bit flipant to say it's "relatively easy" without knowing what has to be done to get them to this quality, the faces are not scanned and are animated. It hasn't been easy and it has taken years to get to this point.

The animation is primarily mo-capped, the hardest part of that is the code that knits it all together and transitions from animation to animation (blending).

I have a question. Will you be working on this game afte it's released? That is if the game has bugs (which pretty much all do) will you release patches over XBL/PSN to fix some of them. Will we also get roster updates or will we see a new game next year?

Well it's easier to make pretty faces than pretty animations. I did make sure that I included the word "relative" though. I've made pretty faces before :) Not animated ones though, so that is something I would like to see, but even then I'm not entirely fussed.

I think a lot of us hardcore footy fans here would be more interested in hearing more about the gameplay than just pictures of faces, although I do appreciate them. I've read that players will do proper leads which is good. What about other things like the positioning of players? In the older games you'd generally find 6 forwards up in the forward line. The flankers might come up to the wing every now and then but not often. That wasn't as big an issue back then but these days, you may have guys like Paul Chapman start in the goal square and then work their way to the back pocket. Can we do that with players these days? AFL games in the past always felt like board games. Your players were all confined to specific positions on the ground. Yeah, they could move slightly from there but even then it felt like there was an invisible barrier of about 30m in diameter that they never could move though, unless you directly controlled them of course.

We will certainly support the game after its release and fix issues via online delivery (but I am sure it will be bug free :) ).
