Hi guys , bit random but ill open up by asking the public here on bigfooty, if there was to be another afl site like this one, dreamteam talk and fanfooty

what would you want on it that would make it appealing?

This site is being made for a Uni project and wont be on the web for long.

Thanks guys

copy the NFL site, and then make obvious adjustments

Critical analysis of AFL.com.au

What's on there, in the right spot

Links to the club sites are in the header, where they should be.
Links to other pages on the sites are in the right spot, could be condensed a bit. (do you need a link to the home page, on the home page?)

What's on there, but in the wrong spot

. What the ****? the first time I've heard of this. Shouldn't be hidden away in a tab.
Video - Video should load on the main page, like every other sporting site out there. A smaller version of what's on http://www.nhl.com/, in that spot
News bar should be on the right side, and doesn't really need to be that big. Something like www.espn.com
Ladder should be one of the first things you see, not hidden halfway down the page
Analysis and Opinion, AFL Development, AFL HQ and Features should be in the same spot in seperate tabs (like the old version of ESPN)

What's on there, that shouldn't be

Bigpond stuff, but that goes without saying.
Advertising, but as above

Just a simple AFL site with all the news, scores and video without all the bigpond crap, without the damn flash, without anything hidden in some obscure corner of the site and it better work on Firefox too!

The site is not as bad now, but c.2007, it might as well had been blown up with an a-bomb and wiped of our internet for good. That said, still a looonnnggg way to go before it can be passable. And I don't see it happening with Telstra at the helm.

you have 2 different criteria.

1. Build a site that is easy to use

2. Build a site which maximizes revenue.

It is obvious that the AFL is slanted towards 2..... everything takes ages to load.... whilst you watch an ad (which load very fast).... you have to go looking for things which should be easy to find (and go looking for ads in the process).

For example, there is no way that the game day page actually takes that long to load. They just to a deal with CUB such that their ad is shown for x seconds, and that is what happens.... adding the little circle status thing just gives you the impression you are actually waiting for something whilst you are really just watching the ad for the allotted time.

thanks guys, im looking for a edge on the other fan based sites like dreamteamtalk and fan footy

should i have a weekly podcast? or something else?
