Apparently the draft is on tonight. It's unsurprising how many stars are carrying "general soreness" this week but seems like a few are still willing to get a huge payday test out the new look comp.

Hamling....another one who has spent time in the rehab group.

Who's next? Harley?
Considering we have such a huge % of the league's indigenous players, we were always going to have a few play. Unfortunately.

AFLX was actually a decent idea to start with if the AFL wanted to play the game overseas in countries with limited oval shaped fields. The problem is they screwed it up every way possible really. The name, shitty team names, lack of defence, super goals, lack of ruckman etc. It’s just not footy.

What was wrong with eight players (experiment with the numbers until it’s right) a side on a rectangular field. Maybe kick in from the goal square if it goes out over the lines either side of the behind posts. Should have left every other rule the same rather than change everything all at once.

There’s no need to have the game played with actual AFL players. The public simply will never warm to it.

Problem is idiots like me still click on the dumb AFLX articles. Clicks makes the AFL think it’s successful.

I was hoping Fyfe would pick Gaff, then smash the little prick in the face during training. You can't get suspended for smacking a team-mate, can you?
You can if there is a person deemed to be an AFL umpire officiating.

Yeah Boak was a massive WTF for me. Like that he was in the pool is baffling enough. 3 years ago sure.

Not sure why Fyfe wanted to have the slowest team out there either. Bont, Pendles, JPK and 3 KPDs.

- this was the stated aim that I remember.

-that's the point though isn't it. It's not for you and I. Footy's a highly complicated game that is difficult for outsiders to have much idea of what is going on. Most WC supporters over 60 still don't understand the rules. What hope is there of a quick understanding overseas?

-8 a side is a good idea in my opinion (good for social numbers) but still, AFL is overally complicated, difficult to interpret, with subjective rules experienced umpires modify game to game and week to week. It appears to me that the AFL have created a game of AFL crossed with ultimate frisbee that could be played in a comp or socially by people from overseas on rectangular fields they already have access to - and is bruise free like what rugby did with it's touch rugby.

There’s no need to have the game played with actual AFL players. The public simply will never warm to it.
- but isn't that the point. It's not for us AFL supporters. We already have the proper game. It is for introducing something that could be easier picked up overseas to promote the game outside Australia in the hope it picks up and potentially increases TV rights and people watching the real AFL. Is it a bad thing using a bastardised game to bring real AFL to the masses outside Australia? Our role as I see it is just to help them sort out the kinks and make something useful for that purpose.

-Success will only be determined by how useful AFLX is in promoting the game overseas, not whether the AFL supporting Australian public like it or not.

after the speculation that Fyfe would pick Shuey with his first pick, he shrugged his shoulders & went for a player whose supporters are less feral than the eGirls. :D
