AFLX really makes me appreciate AFLW more.

Not much risk of injury. Players just running around launching barrels. Looks like the players are having a bit of fun though, so good for them. Pretty sure it's got no chance of taking off as a format even at a social level, without the big names it's just schoolyard shenanigans.

Suspect that old footy purists who sit on footy forums all day are not the target audience for AFLX. It is important, long term, to continually attract a younger audience to the game and to find a way that we can play our great game on smaller grounds.
For every 50+ year old male who lambasted AFLW there are now 10 young women who love the game.
Tonight looks like the players are enjoying it, good crowd and everyone looks to be having fun.
Just quietly Fish looked elite in game 1.

I watched a half, it is awful. It does nothing for football, just helping out advertisers for 3 hours.

If the excuse for this is to sell footy overseas in soccer ountries without ovals why is it being played in Melbourne, the home of aussie rules and not in munich, rome or barcelona?

The whole thing is a trifle forced. May find it’s groove, probably needs time and the self belief to get rid of the unwarranted crap like commentator nick names and the OTT blokiness ‘friends’ crap.

They've got two more games to play. Three if they make the final playoff.

But none of the players are going that hard, they all know any injury kills the start of their season as well as any chance of this happening again.

...on second thought, maybe one of them should take one for the team. Somebody unimportant should do a hammy so the clubs crack it and refuse to let their players participate ever again.

Have just rocked home, I think I'm seeing an Indigenous team playing , I'm seeing pink boots, women commentating, uniforms borrowed from Sydneys last Mardi Gra. Did I not also hear Mr 'Ladies and Gentlemen' commentating, friday night entertainment at its best, can't wait for what the AFL serve me next.
