Welcome to the Artificial Intelligence Football League!

The AiFL is a new league-based AFL competition. The competition will follow a regular round robin structure followed by finals, in which a team will get 2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw. The number of rounds and length of finals will depend on how many teams enter into the competition. The AiFL follows a new and unique design process, where competitors provide a location and let ChatGPT decide the rest. Each competitor team will be decided by the following prompt:

Create a new AFL Team for a team in (Location), including colours, team name, logo and 2 sponsors

ChatGPT will create a response like the following:

Team Name: Adelaide Phoenix

Colours: Crimson Red, Charcoal Grey, and Gold

Logo: The team's logo features a majestic phoenix rising from flames, symbolizing rebirth, resilience, and strength. The phoenix is rendered in crimson red colour with charcoal grey and gold accents, creating a striking and dynamic image that embodies the team's spirit.

Sponsors:

Adelaide Casino
- a premier entertainment venue located in Adelaide, known for its world-class gaming, dining, and nightlife offerings, and a prominent supporter of local sports.

Coopers Brewery - a beloved local brewery based in South Australia, known for its award-winning beers and commitment to quality and tradition.

Each competitor is allowed a second ChatGPT response if they do not wish to use the first one. From then, it is your job to create 3 designs and a team Logo using the provided information.

Entry Structure

Location: e.g. Adelaide

Your team may be located anywhere in Australia, from a large city like Melbourne or Sydney, to a small regional town like Whyalla. Although, teams will not be allowed in smaller islands outside of the 8 states and territories.

ENTRY CUTOFF:

Friday 28th April will be the cut-off for all entries. I plan to do create all team prompts and distribute them that from 6:30pm so that participants have plenty of time to work with their entry. If entry numbers are low at that date, everything will shift to a later date.

Rules

Entrants will be required to design:
  • A team logo
  • Home Kit (To be worn at all home games)
  • Away Kit (To be worn at all away games)
  • Stand-Out Kit (To be worn in Stand-Out rounds)

The HOME kit is your clubs main identity and will be worn at all home game. This kit may be worn in away games if a clash occurs.

The AWAY kit is your clubs secondary identity and will be worn at all away games during the season unless a clash occurs. This kit must provide a suitable contrast from the Home kit.

Think bold, bright, colourful and think of a way to be Stand-Out from the rest. The STAND-OUT kit will be worn during the two Stand-Out rounds throughout the season and will give your team the opportunity to express themself on the big stage.

All guernseys must contain the following:

  • Sponsors: Sponsors must be located on the FRONT LEFT chest, BELOW the number on the back and on the FRONT LEFT side of the shorts. Above number sponsor is optional.
  • Manufacturer logo on the sternum and FRONT RIGHT side of the shorts below league logo.
  • Number on the BACK of guernsey and may be any font you desire.
  • Official League Logo on the RIGHT-SIDE chest – may be recoloured to your liking.
  • Official league logo (Provided below) to be used on jock tag (if included)
  • Socks can have any design, but must include manufacturer logo
The Competition Logo can be found here:

Feel free to use this thread as a space to promote, post previews, and banter about anything on topic.

SUBMISSION:

You will only be required to submit the front of your teams guernsey. The back of the guernsey, shorts and socks are optional, but highly encouraged. Once your design has been completed, please PM your three images to me using Imgur or Flickr. Please don’t send submissions directly through BigFooty as the images cannot be posted on public threads.

If there are any problems or confusion, just flick me a message and I’ll hopefully resolve it for you :)

Entries are due on May 26th, 2023, 8.00pm AEST

Sign me up, and i'm also happy to have my location either decided at random or to fit in with wherever the league needs teams.

Cool idea! I’d like to do a Victorian Goldfields based team split between Ballarat and Bendigo. If anyone wants one of those locations though I’d also be happy to choose only one but I think doing both could be cool.

Had a go at seeing what identity ChatGPT could make for me and I liked what it came up with for me, as well as having the option to ask what it envisions as the uniforms for the team. This leads to my question, are the identities going to be generated by the comp runner or will we have to the opportunity to generate our identities and hope for some sort of honour system with the users involved?

I have done the same which made me pretty excited for this comp actually!
Supercheapgiants has said in the OP he will create the prompts and will give the entrants a second chance if they dont like the first one.

Yea, I played around a fair bit to get the right balance of what the Ai creates and what you create. I tried to ask it for guernsey designs but it doesn't really understand that. Entering what I've concluded with does provided a bit more information regarding a stadium name and cheerleaders team but i didn't see that as necessary. My whole idea is to give everyone a starting idea (colour, moniker, sponsor) and let them build from there.

Just rolling with A-Z for entrants, the Ai gives the same response just different colours, sponsors, and team names. I'll be distributing teams on the 28th, I am trying to work out whether to stream/video it for credibility but I'm not sure yet. But everyone gets two options that they can decide from, if they really don't want to use those then I may allow a location change or something along those lines but I want everyone to use what they get.

Regarding the handing out of teams on Friday, I realised not everyone may be available to decide whether to apply for a second ChatGPT response. So I will slightly change it, and instead all participants will be sent two options based on what they have provided me, and then they just need to reply with their choice of team, option 1 or option 2. Everything else stays the same, just now everyone gets two options.

On the other hand, I'm so amazed to see 10 participants so far, but still hope for a 2-3 more entries to make my dream of running a competition better.

Any of you interested in having a run in the comp?

Sure, count me in. I'm a bit stacked with uni stuff at the moment so just not 100% sure if I can get something in on time is the issue but I'll let you know.

Give me Albury if no one has taken that

Happy with just 1 ChatGPT response mate, i'll just take whatever I get. Designing to a brief like this will be a fun little exercise.

Sorry, but I don't have enough brain cells to devote to something like this at the moment. Good luck with it though.

All participants who applied should have received their two options for the AiFL season, you have until May 26th, 8.00pm AEST to submit your designs for all three guernseys. If anyone else wants to join late, then I will send through your options and go from there. Good luck! Can't wait for this to start.
