The most talented KPP we have Stiffy? After 5 years his goal per game average is a mighty 0.4. I doubt we have a need for an 8 goal a year forward.
No doubt he has talent, he does seem to have a complete lack of desire to use it however.
By all means I would be delighted to eat my words if the Crows did grab him but I'm not too worried about that happening.

oh I see - thanks for that.......

Polak may not be better value than Michael Doughty is but Richard Douglas, Chris Knights or Darren Pheiffer will be.
ummmm - so why do that trade....

While I wouldn't ever trade for Polak, it would be a trade of a midfielder which we have quite a few of for a KPP which we lack. Seems like a good idea to me (of course, still wouldn't do that trade)

But you conviniently forget that he played most of his football in defence ;)

Don't forget that despite playing only 11 games this year he is equal 7th in the AFL in contested marks per game.

Play him at CHB or at CHF, either way you have a very good young player with potential. Lack of desire needs to be investigated further but I am sure Craig and his pioneers would be able to motivate him. A change of scenery could do him good but it could also do sweet **** all.

Its a risk but depending on the cost the potential gain outweights the potential failure IMHO.

Many sides are interested which suggests that he will still hold some pretty good value come trade week.

if thats the case then would that not push his price higher?

Did he? Have to admit I've hardly seen him play. His game isn't why I don't want him.

And Barry Brooks is equal 8th in goals per game. :p

Yes, you probably do.

This is where you and I differ. I'm strongly leaning towards to sweet F.A.

What do you think the potential cost would be?

he is definitely not worth a 1st rnd draft pick. Maybe not even a second. If we could get him for 3rd round pick though.......

Injuries will again play a role on where we end up. Surely we couldn't have a worse run. If we a reasonable run, we can threaten for the flag.

Our rucks should be better with Huddo offsetting the loss of Rhett.

Trent's injury is a bigger loss, but if Bock, McGregor, Perrie, Burton, Roo & Welsh stay fit for most of the year, we have enough attacking weapons to cover.

INJURIES thats the key as with all sides

Huddo will play a big part and hopefully injury free.

Maric and Meeson also are a big part one in the ruck and one up forward.

The rest of it seems ok and will take care of it self

You would hope Thommo steps up to become a number one midfielder and with a good pre season Mattner goes in to the midfield rotations

I think he would command 1st round draft pick
I agree with your sentiments on Polak after a "recent" re-think on the issue.

If he could be motivated by a change of scenery he would be a far better option IMO than Gardiner.

But I just can't see any side giving up a first round pick for him .....not this year anyway......he'll be a second round early-mid.....for us to get him would probably have to be a late second round plus a player.

If we can get him for that, I would do it in a split second. If we can get Polak for a 2nd rounder and a reasonable player AND keep our first round pick, I would be seriously STOKED!!!!!!

It would be some great recruiting by the club IMHO.

If he has "dummy spitting" episodes....well he may be a young 22....a change of environment, away from mum and a professional club like the crows in a city environment similar to Perth.....could be ideal for him.

Tigers are chasing him HARD

As are Bulldogs ;)

Polak certainly has talent. Whther he fufills it will be seen. If he doesn;t perform here then he is a lost cause. I would take the punt for him. Time to bite the bullet, he'll either be a GUN or dud. We desperately need a Key forward who can take a contested mark who is mobile. Polak fits that description. I'd be prepared to give up our 2nd rounder + a player for Polak, depending on the players worth, they would have to throw in a pick.

He can take a contested mark in defence. He is all at sea up forward, cannot read the play and his kicking for goal is absolutely woeful. He reminds me a bit of McPharlin who is more at home in defence.

If we pick up Polak the bonus is we can perhaps release Bock and Rutten into the forward line with Polak, McGregor and Stevens to share key defensive duties.

True but I still beleive that he can and most probably will develop into a key forward. Don't forget that a lot of forwards start their careers as backmen.

Off the top of my head, forwards who started their careers as defenders:

Lucas - yes
Neitz - yes
Lloyd - no
Brown - no
Tredrea - no
Hall - no
Pavlich - yes
Fevola - no
Lynch - no
Hansen - no
Rocca - no
Franklin - no
Thompson - no
Reiwoldt - no
Gehrig - yes, I think. Might have even spent some time on the wing.
Hamill - no
Richardson - no

The forwards who started as defenders listed above generally spent time in defence because, whilst they had their moments, were quite inconsistent up forward. Some good games, more bad games. Going back to defence was part of their development and they had already shown a glimpse of talent as a key forward. I've never seen anything that suggests Polak will eventually be suited to the forwrad line.
