Interesting his comments about Collingwood. I have only heard him say negative things about us in the past 15 years, and absolutely _ _ _ _ stuff in the past 18 months since Eddie and his COLA campaign.

He did explain his rationale for wanting WCE to win as he wanted the BL triple premiership legacy to remain intact by itself and not be diminished or overtaken by Hawthorn winning a 3rd straight premiership

Yeah I was taken aback by some of his comments. It was the last thing I imagined him to think. Especially 1990 being the most special.

I imagined his loyalty to Haw to be stronger than it appears. I don't understand him.

It seems to me that all Brisbane are doing is trying to put heat on Collingwood for a fair trade. Of course the problem for them is that the public nature of their posturing is likely to do more damage to their future list retention strategy than good and everyone knows what a destination club they have already become. I refuse to believe that Balme and Mathews are so stupid that they don't see that so one can only wonder what thinking is behind the destruction they are clearly imposing on their club's future.

Do we really think Brisbane would let a top 10 draft pick go for nothing. Their supporters, members, sponsors etc would be ropeable. Then imagine if Aish got to us for nothing through the pre season draft. Brisbane will look the biggest d heads!!

Not really, it was his 3rd I think. 1st as coach.

Matthews is a four time premiership player and four time premiership coach.

He'd never get to us in pre-season, he couldn't name a price we'd pay that the clubs before us would. Brisbane won't let him leave for nothing, didn't do anything for St Kilda with Ball or Port with Stevens when they tried that.

He's a funny one Leigh. I always used to like him as a caller because of his no nonsense style. But now I'm not so sure. I reckon he's become a staunch Lions man in the sense that Sheedy was more of an Essendon man than Richmond in the end. Deep down he seems to have a place in his heart for the Collingwood 1990 side but overall he doesn't seem to have much love for us at all. I felt like he was doing a tiny bit of subtle barracking for St Kilda in 2010 during the call, which is not surprising as he seemed to be doing the same thing for WC this year - he now seems to firmly regard us as the enemy.

The funny thing is Tony Shaw is probably the most hostile critic of our Club and has always seemed to have a chip on his shoulder about what happened during his coaching stint. In his eyes we can rarely do anything right and perhaps in striving for objectivity, seems to virtually barrack against us. A strange situation for a legendary captain of a club.

Whatever the case I hope the old, practical, sensible Leigh Matthews re emerges sometime this week.

Mathews and Swan are full of sh1t.

If we didnt have Treloar earmarked for our 7 pick they would be snapping our hands off for it for Aish, so it's crap to say they wouldn't trade him under no circumstances.

The lions are the biggest joke of a football club in the Afl and are heading down the same path as their successful predecessor's, the bears and Fitzroy into extinction.

Ideal scenario!

Probably wants to protect his personal records, now his legend is diminished a little, always came across as an egocentric type of guy.
But love him for what he did in 1990!
Sure a deal will be done and we will work from our end to ensure we come out alright.

Mate the majority of Brions supporters on here seem to have no issue with the stance. They think this is their line in the sand moment. How about they try and work out why all these players want out and try and fix it?

I'm not happy with losing Freeman but I'd be even more unhappy if we got nothing back for him. Hine and Co will get the best deal we can.

Professionalism v Amateur hour.

Their lack of professionalism is staggering

What conversations did they have with Aish prior to drafting him?
Did they bother to ask "Hey, James if we draft you, what are your long term plans after you have fulfilled all your draft commitments?"

I believe they will. Leigh Matthews is not known for backing down and his position has also been supported by Swann. Our best hope is to get Aish through the draft although I think this is a long shot. My main priority is to get the Treloar deal done as quickly as possible. If we can achieve this we will be in a position to look at other deals with clubs that are not being run by idiots.

Just reading the recent posts on the Aish thread on the crows board, they don't seem very keen on using high picks to bring in Aish. I know bf posters aren't recruiters but pick pick 12 or 13 (I think) is very high, the reality is Aish didn't even play well this year at all.

Can't find the actual article for this (think it's behind a paywall), however this was posted on a Draft Page on Facebook.

Brisbane will negotiate with Collingwood over James Aish.

But they must wait until ruckman Matthew Leuenberger choses between Sydney and Essendon, and the Pies close a deal with GWS for gun midfielder Adam Treloar, before they know what picks they hold, and what are available.

Here's an interesting article which probably explains why they want him to go to the PSD.
It's the only way they'll get him as he's already said no!

"BRISBANE are seething at Carlton going into Sunday’s clash at Etihad Stadium after Blues officials flew to Queensland this week for secret talks with Lions midfielder James Aish.
Carlton CEO Steve Trigg, football operations manager Andrew Mackay and list manager Stephen Silvagni were in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast on Wednesday under the official guise of speaking to sporting software expert and baseball coach Jon Deeble".
