Logic tells you that if they are being honest about no players being involved it must be a 1st rounder. Otherwise, why would the Lions just roll over on day 1 for pick 29? They'd surely play hardball until later in the week and see if they could get something better, whether at the Dogs or elsewhere.....

Graeme Allen and Scott Clayton have had the best part of a month to talk with one another and Rick Olarenshaw about trades, contracts and conditions, so I am not surprised one little bit.

Too much of a risk for Brisbane to not get something settled early because if they didn't trade Aker to the Bulldogs he would have stayed at Brissy on about $450,000.

Can't go elsewhere I'm afraid.

I just can't see the Bulldogs parting with #11, they have been adament that it will not be traded.

I dont see why people are so suprised that it would be a 2nd rounder at best plus later picks, its already documented how Brisbane have salary problems...

You wouldnt want to take any players back in return that are 3+yrs experienced players because they would be on their 2nd contract which would be more than a drafted players salary. Picks are all they want and this way they can concentrate on retaining players who may actually want to stay at the club.

Re: Bullies/Lions deal done on aker? Spinning us right around.

Do you think we'll hear the full details today or is this going to drag on all week? I can't get excited about the deal until I know what we gave up for him.

He most certainly CAN go elsewhere if all parties agree. Yes the Lions want (need) to offload the salary and YES Aker wants (needs) to play football next year. If the Dogs play silly buggers, it might become a game of who blinks first. There are several other clubs who have expressed interest and all parties (bar Aker) will need to do business again in the future.

I'm not saying it HAS to be a 1st rounder, but I will be disappointed if its ONLY a 2nd rounder (at 29 at least). 2nd and 3rd rounder - maybe, some other combination involving multiple trades - maybe. A 2nd rounder only for us is probably as unpalatable as a 1st rounder for you so we need to find middle ground (I hope).

I agree with the earlier poster who said West, Grant, Johnson, Darcy and Aker will have a very short window together to garner a flag. An 18 year old gangly kid is unlikely to figure in that equation. Yes you've got to think longer term, but have you seen Akermanis play the last 8 years? He is an absolute champion of the game and a proven elite level performer year in and year out. You don't just walk away with him for pick 29 - at least I sincerely hope you don't :(

If we've traded away pick 11 I'll personally dump in a paper bag, fly to melbourne with it, throw it on Eade's doorstep and set it alight.

However, I'm sure we won't have...

I still find it hard to believe that Aker is only worth pick 29.

Something smells fishy to me.

If the deal has already been "done" then it's hard to see that there would be other picks obtained from other clubs as part of it...

Don't see why not.
eg. Brisbane could have agree to trade Aker to Bulldogs for one of the following:
- two 2nd round picks
- two 3rd round picks
- 2nd & 3rd round picks, at least one of which must be higher than what Bulldogs currently hold.

Brisbane know they're getting multiple picks for Aker (but not which ones yet), and can get on with negotiations for other deals and/or securing out of contract players knowing for sure they don't have to deal with the remainder of Aker's salary.
Bulldogs know they're getting Aker and can get on with other trades knowing exactly what is needed to satisfy Brisbane in the process.

Aker doesn't want to go elsewhere so it would be a complete waste of time trying to do a deal with another team, he has to agree to the deal and has said he won't go elsewhere the only option he said would be to play for Brisbane again.

Don't think that Aker is worth pic #11 at age 29, however he is worth more than pick #29, something in between would satisfy both parties (i assume that's exactly what they are working on right now).
Trade is 'agreed in principle' however if one of the parties changes tack & suffers from 11th hour greed, then it could still derail.

You do know we are talking about Jason Akermanis don't you?

His word is not gospel.

Re: Bullies/Lions deal done on aker? Spinning us right around.

Aker has a current contract for next season, so there are probably details to be worked out. Salary cap and part payments may come into play.

Re: Bullies/Lions deal done on aker? Spinning us right around.

I'd suggest this has more to do with the Bulldogs supposed interest with McDougall than anything else.
At this stage the Dogs don't know what they have to give up for him so they have agreed a series of proposals with Bris
eg 1st rd pick for Aker and Bris 2nd rd pick
or 2nd and 3rd pick rd picks for Aker etc

Then one of these scenarios would occur depending on whether they gave up say a 3rd rounder or players for McDougall.

Re: Bullies/Lions deal done on aker? Spinning us right around.

The details yet to be agreed might concern salary. They might be negotiating how much the Dogs will pay Aker becuase if it doesn't cover his Brisbane deal Brisbane would have to pay the rest which would give them salary cap grief.

Until they work out these details its not really confirmed.

Is bulldogs giving up pick 11 in return for brisbanes 2nd round pick (22) and Aker a possibility?

Well you must've thought it was when you posted it in the Official confirmed trades sticky thread, you dolt.
