Whilst I've said I don't really care what players (like everyone else) does in their free time, if the AFL want to stamp out recreational usage, they're not doing it right at all.

I agree with their sentiment that people need to be helped, rather than punished to prevent their addiction worsening, but they shouldn't get off scot-free. Make it a mandatory 2-5 game ban for their first strike, depending on the class of the substance (which can be disguised as an injury, to the player's and club's discretion), 4-10 for their second strike (again, class dependent and can be listed as injured), and then 1-2 years for their third (obviously can't be hidden as an injury).

The AFL gets to keep their three strikes, but it also at least does something to properly deter use.

Whether they use a new system or not, they need to do their own and third party testing for every sample, and also need to remove the massive grey area.

The players just won't agree to out of competition testing then.

I remember how uncomfortable and nervous he looked during the interview on "on the couch" after the GWS game, when he said it was only a minor hammy and he'll be out for 2 weeks.

I can honestly say that, Around 2 years ago in the off season, I was sitting with Buddy in a well known strip club, I first of all said hello and he invited me over, We sat and drank for a while, after about an hour he was sniffing powder of some sort, I didnt ask what it was and about 10 minutes later he got really angry and picked up the table we were drinking at and threw it across the room almost hitting a few of the patrons in the club and this was around 4am
I'm not sure what's more believeable? This story or a Collingwood supporter not knowing what type of drug he was using?

Franklin definitely tested positive for his 3rd strike, a high ranking club official is my source. Demetriou is trying to cover it up.

Yeah right. That club official either works for Hawthorn, or he works for one of the other 17 clubs.
If this club official worked for one of the other 17, how the **** would he know if Demetriou is organising a cover up...so anyone who says that is ignored

If this club official worked for Hawthorn, why would he potentially ruin his club by telling you, and most likely many other people, that the star of Hawthorn should be being banned and that Demetriou is covering it up...

Amazing how shit a job Demetriou (also known as "Vlad") has done at covering this up.

Or I like the one where "I saw him out and he was taking drugs". Well, unless you have seen him out numerous times, then how do you know that he would be on 3 strikes (or chances are he would be if you have seen him do drugs lots), might have been a one off. This is regarding all football players. Also, why not take a photo/video. Would be worth a lot of money!

Finally, Aker is a knob.

I don't care if Buddy (or anyone else for arguments sake) is on 30 strikes, I love footy and I just want to see the best players play. He's a grown man with free will, if he or any other player wants to wreck himself with party drugs I'm not fussed, there are so many more people in the world who deserve my concern. (I sure as hell don't lose sleep over Ben Cousins.)

In conclusion the crap under my shoe is more valuable than Jason Akermanis.

You can tell he's a knob head from looking at him. Always has been a shit bloke. I loved it when Rance tried to smash his tooth out the week after it flew out in tassie lol

He is actually a pretty decent bloke. Does a lot of things for kids behind the scenes and helps out with a few of the charities set up by a couple of ex hawk players.

Plays arrogantly on the field but who wouldnt if you had his attributes.

You people do realise that Aker never said Buddy had his third strike, right? He only retweeted someone else who DID say that, and offered his opinion on it; which he's entitled to, obviously. Some people here are attacking him as if he actually said it...

Funny thread.

I especially like the part where posters say "yeah, I heard this one the other day". Really? I heard this one about 5 years ago.

"a very reliable source, says it will break very soon".

Still waiting.

If its a retweet quoting someone's tweet then he wouldn't at all. All he's doing is offering an opinion on a rumor.
That's this time.
He's named names at sports nights or other functions.

Ok. Someone sent me something about you, that is 100% slanderous and unfounded. I'm a public figure and I'm going to retweet it and "offer my opinion" on this rumour, so your the whole world can see it, including your family and friends. This rumour will not only destroy your reputation, but it will also effect your potential future income and could cost you hundreds of thousands of $$. It's okay because I've just retweeted the lies and made a subtle insinuation that you're a drug addict. It's okay yeah? We're still cool?

Are people really this stupid?

All reasonable points, though I had specified "non-performance-enhancing". Probably the best point is in regards to it being an unnecessary risk. I'm fairly lenient when it comes to drug use so I'm more of the persuasion that, as long as you don't hurt anybody or yourself, it's fine.
.

Some things can have crazy side effects. A baseball player pitched a perfect game when he was tripping balls on acid. So I guess anything can happen.

Yet another "blame the media" thread. Although this time its "blame Aker".

He didnt start this rumour.

Yes, it's funny how the rumours start.

I heard a rumour that a BigFooty poster named "Tommy from Thimastown" is a woman-bashing, metho-drinking, snow-dropping Greenie and this seemed to be a good place to bring it up.

I'm sorry I called him a "Greenie", though.
