What do you think, if he walks out of Brisbane, as seems pretty certain, and into the pre-season draft (presuming he'd skip the national draft in order to put a price on his head) should the Blues pick him up?

He has a year left on his contract, so this may not eventuate, but there's every chance Lions would release him for nothing if they can't find a trade - and at 30, there's little bargaining power for them.

Because of his age he doesn't exactly fit where we are on the football "clock" and his mouth sprouts all sorts of crap, but could we really pass him up if he was available (we'll have 1st or 2nd pick) and hasn't priced himself unreasonably?

He's still an absolute gun, with a fresh start and playing his best on a half forward flank he'd undoubtedly help us improve...

It could potentially be him or Michael Gardiner going into preseason draft. If he was available at a reasonable price i would say yes. Hes a player who brings people to the footy and could add excitement to fans. A massive risk though.

Yes,

the money he could get playing for us,
Depending on who stays/goes,
would ensure he needs no other source of income
ie: websites and various other self promotions.

And his ability speaks for itself.
What he could offer this club in regards to,
how modern football is played/organised/structured/tactics,
would open a few eyes.

Am having a real good think about the vodka bloke also.

Only as a PSD where it doesn't cost us anything

I know we carry on about character and so forth but I would take Akermanis or Gardiner for little currency, and take the chance. I think our playing group could handle a rogue ego here and there.

However Akermanis can not go into the PSD unless the Lions sack him, as he is contracted. He also wants to go to a side that is close to flag calculations.

Definetly YES, the guy may be 30 but he would drag people through the gate and would be a great asset to our young midfield.

I wouldn't touch Gardiner with a 20 foot pole...

On the other hand, Aker, I'd love him in Navy Blue. Him and Fev just putting on a clinic together. He will bring people through the gates, and if playing well and he is enjoying his time at Carlton, some positive stuff in the media.

Would also take Nick Davis too.

We lack class players, and Aker is one of them, would be great with the young players.... trains hard, plays hard. Who cares what he says in the media.

hrmmz i guess i did take it too far with gardiner but aker , doesnt do anything wrong so i would definatly take him , but he wont be in the psd .. and i really find it hard to believe no matter how bad the situation is that brisbane are goin to sack him , so say if we have to trade for him what would you trade and plus if he is in the psd i dont think essendon would pass up on him .

I wonder why he can't keep his mouth shut. Maybe issues upstairs...

1.
take Aker in a minute!.... provided he comes 'cheapish' ie a late round pick or a PSD pick.
2.
he'd look super in the Navy Blue and would assist the playing group, knowledge, preparation, success etc etc.
3.
big mouth???? - publicity, can be bad, generally good.
4.
let's stay away from Gardiner.

he'd be handy to help develop our young players a good fill in if Kouta retires
need one or 2 senior player per Draft and remaining picks youngsters
i tip we'll finish higher in 2007 as long as we win a premiership before Essendon dose especally to rub it in Campo's face :) even get into the finals at least and essendon down near the bottom again just to make
Campo feel like an idiot of leaving :) :thumbsu:

would probably pick Gardiner first. Any chance we could take both of them?
not both .. but i guess its take one problem at a time , but i think of it like this , what if they have both learnt there lession and are ready to settle down ?

I'd personally love Aker at Carlton, how many goals would Fev kick with Aker putting the ball lace out on his chest.

The only problem is that we would be able to pick him up in the PSD as he is still contracted to Brisbane for 2007, the only way we could get him in the PSD was if Brisbane did something similar to what Richmond did with Ty Zantuck, termanted his contract with a year left on it so that he could join Essendon in the PSD, because both parties could see that the player-club relationship just wasn't working.

I would assume that would be our barganing power.

As good as it would be to have Aker at the club,I hope we dont give away draft picks for him.Having said that I dont think he would really want to come to a club which is rebuilding.Clubs that are premiership contenders have more to offer in a trade than we do anyway

exactly right, remember how much quality ball he gave lynch?;)
would take him in a heart beat, just not for to much:thumbsu:

Its funny how Aker is on the nose now, when Lions are struggling. He is the same guy mouthing off back when they were winning!
Gee what a big mouth, and then he goes and kicks 5 goals in a GF!!
We don't need that type of guy at our club,NOOOOOOOOOO.....let's draft guys like McGuane,Mansfield and O'Reilly.

Yep Brisbane are getting rid of him for his poor footy skills. NOT

Carlton has a bad history of rotten apples and all that you folks can do is smell blood, short memories. We have a team full of youth, with little leadership and you want to bring a complete FWIT like Akermanis into an environment like that. Ten points for posting with your thinking caps on people.

i'd rather have him at the club than a few of the guys that are, sure he has some negatives but his playing ability/skill is not one of them

Aker v Stevens

Which one is more skillful ?
Which one is the better leader ?
Which one has a more complete game ?
Which one works harder ?

Skillful -> Aker (faster, more aggressive, more sure of himself)
Leader -> Aker by miles
Complete Game -> Aker Aker Aker (has played well in defence, in the middle and forward)
Works Harder -> Aker (is not overweight, look at his physique in the photo in yesterdays age!)

This is why I was saying we should try to swap Stevens for AKA. Stevens we prob will get 5-6 years more out of, Aka I'd say 3-5.

We lose maybe a year of service of a reasonable player, but Aka has 2 years of quality at least left in him. In those 2 years Aka will teach the kids more and uplift the spirits more than Stevens will.

No doubt Stevens if he left Carlton to a better team will improve more than we're getting out of him.. the unfortunate thing for Stevens is his confidence is shattered due to the state of the CFC and his winning mentality is gone.

We are in need of an experienced player in this draft or PSD with WINNING mentality!!!! Our kids don't know what it's like to win!! If Kouta retires and Lappin starts to decline in form, our only senior players left are Fev and Fev never played consitantly in our winning days!

AKA would fit well in our group!
