Appears to be true. No gucking food at all!
On the bright side there is a strong rumour that Jason Cripps will be coming to the Bulldogs. Sadly that's only a glimmer though.

I heard he was sacked, that one high up official questioned him about his commitment and it upset him and the official told him to walk after a nasty confrontation.

Now, I could respect Scott Lee (if he was to take over), had a lot of time for him, Jonas too. (Of course I was rooting for Centrals in those GF's when they weren't playing Sturt)
Had no time at all for a thug like Clarkson. Sneak up behind someone and king-hit them, nasty piece of work.

What the .... ? Can't believe that they would let Clarko go because he was interested in the state coaching job! (I think that was the reason given - was in shock when I heard the news on channel 9 tonight).
All doggies supporters would be happy to see Scotty Lee at the healm, if the club decided to give him the nod that is - he did well last year after taking over the coaching role for the u-19's mid-season. (I guess we will just have to wait and see)
Here's hoping the Gowans' and others don't decide to jump ship and go with him!
Not happy, Jan!

I suspected something like this may happen, although I thought he would shoot off for an AFL assistant's job - that's the usual career path.

BTW, centrals_chick - nice avatar! :)

After sticking with him through so many injuries, the Saints shafted him in the end. A very likeable footballer.

well well well - a contract dispute - maybe he was not happy with salary cap breaching, or the gowans altercation last year and it was I go or they go??

If lee gets the job centrals will prob miss the four as he is not even a premiership player - maybe they could get andy collins or another AFL aspirant for one year.

Never knew you had to be a premiership player to be a successful coach!!
Is that why the Wiggles didn't win it last year?

The dumbest thing ive ever read on BigFooty.

Roy Laird got the job. He wasnt a premiership player either...i guess thats Centrals down the ****ter next year!!

Clarkson was never a premiership player at VFL/AFL level either yet he won a premiership.

Peter Jonas was never a premiership player yet he guided Centrals to a premiership.

Brenton Phillips never won a premiership with North...or Brisbane...yet he guided Sturt to a premiership.

If you must be a premiership player to become a premiership coach then maybe they could get Greg Phelps or Aaron Keating coaching them

When I think of Eddie Eagle I remember the strange guy who wore the Eagles coloured crash helmet for all those years, not the dud winter Olympian. This sort of comment makes me believe that you are that man.

You`ll be happy that the PAPS are rumoured to interview Clarkson for an onfield coaching position.

Still could be according to the Advertiser today........

Coach's AFL wish list key to sacking
By DAVID BURTENSHAW The Advertiser 15 January 2003

CENTRAL District's refusal to endorse Alastair Clarkson's bid to recruit AFL-experienced players was the final issue leading to the shock exit of the 2001 premiership coach.

It is understood former St Kilda midfielder Jason Cripps and Fremantle's Brad Bootsma were on Clarkson's shopping list before he was told the club had no more money to spend on recruiting.

Central also had stood firm on its decision that Clarkson could not coach the SANFL State side.

Clarkson, who may now join Port Adelaide's AFL coaching staff, last night admitted the parties were "polarised in views" on the club's direction.

The former North Melbourne and Melbourne midfielder considered some AFL roles at the end of last season before opting to stay at Central for "unfinished business" in the wake of losing the 2002 grand final to Sturt.

"But a couple of things I suppose came up post that decision . . . I suppose we were polarised in our views on those," Clarkson said.

"It had been festering for a four- to six-week period. We sat down and in the best interests of everyone, but particularly the players, we thought we had to resolve it before the players came back on Monday.

"The conclusion of the meeting on Saturday morning was that our views continued to be polarised and that we go our separate ways.

"We needed to all be in agreement in terms of the way that we are going forward – and we couldn't be in agreement so we decided that we would all head off in our different directions."

Clarkson said a confidentialty agreement stopped him from commenting further on the reasons for his exit.

But he was upset at some of the innuendo surrounding his departure.

"None of that is true," he said.

Reserves premiership coach Roy Laird is the favourite to succeed Clarkson, who had coached Central to 37 wins in 44 games after replacing 2000 premiership coach Peter Jonas.

Central's options will be limited by the timing of the announcement.

Laird, 33, retired at the end of 1998 after playing 87 league games and has coached the reserves for the past two seasons. His side won 20 consecutive games in 2001 before losing the grand final to Woodville-West Torrens but again dominated last year and this time won the flag.

Another candidate is former defender Scott Lee, a member of the inaugural Adelaide AFL squad.

Lee, 39, retired from the SANFL after the 2000 season when he was left out of Central's premiership side.

He stayed at the club as an assistant coach and last year coached the under-19s.

Questions left hanging in the air
By DAVID BURTENSHAW The Advertiser 15 January 2003

CLUB before individual. Central District president Les Stevens hammered the theme on Monday afternoon when stunned players were told 2001 SANFL premiership coach Alastair Clarkson was gone.

The Christmas break over, about 50 Bulldogs had gathered to train for the first time this year when they were called into the changerooms under the grandstand at Elizabeth Oval.

Most already suspected that something signficant had occurred. Television cameras and newspaper photographers are rarely spotted at SANFL training sessions these days.

Clarkson and the club could not agree on several matters, the players were told. And the club must be the top priority.

This was how Bulldogs officials explained Clarkson's sudden exit just 10 weeks before the 2003 season and only a few weeks after Stevens wrote in the 2002 annual report that "in the club's opinion Alastair Clarkson is the best senior coach in the SANFL".

Central's efforts to publicly explain the Clarkson issue have been minimal.

No club official has been available to talk to the media since the news broke on Monday.

And yesterday's three–sentence joint press release added little information to Monday night's brief release.

It said: "The Central District Football Club and Alastair Clarkson have mutually agreed to part company for season 2003 due to differences about priorities for the club.

"The parties have come to this decision amicably and each wishes the other every success in the future. There will be no further comment on the matter."

But it is believed Central and Clarkson have repeatedly clashed over his independent style. The relationship soured when the club stopped him from coaching the SANFL state side last year and deteriorated further recently when Clarkson's recruiting plans were blocked.
