So Alex Pearce reposts this, and is now being called on by Ronnie Lerner to apologise?

Is this for real? Support for Palestine is apparently controversial enough to warrant an apology, despite it being an official policy of groups like the Australian Greens?

The band he has reposted has said to shoot MPs or something similiar (and obviously 2 have been murdered in the UK in recent years).
Have they indeed. Link?

More to the point, why should it indicate that Alex Pearce shares those views? What he reposted refers to support for Palestine.

Extra info: Kneecaps posts and videos have also been shared by many including Australian MPs, Senators and the Australian Greens.

It doesn't indicate Pearce shares those views, its just why there will be people get up in arms and make a bigger issue of it now.

I really don't care, I just want my football club to start taking playing winning footy seriously.🙁

I generally don't trust high profile sportspeople or celebrities unless I've seen evidence that they know stuff.

All the more reason not to care about his behaviour and all the support and outrage over it is that I've seen a lot of cherry picking of what human rights offenders to get outraged over (while advocating friendly ties with others that do just as horrific stuff).

You’re right, we should think big picture. Fremantle’s defensive structure is at stake!

Unsure if Kneecap actually endorsed Hamas or Hezbollah (if so, they’re despicable). That out of the way—free speech in the Australian sporting landscape is on shaky ground; its allowance seems selective at best.

When will it occur to the Jewish community that Netanyahu and the IDF are damaging Israel’s interests and global standing with their actions in Gaza? True support for Israel means demanding policies that uphold both security and human rights for all in the region.

By all accounts, Alex Pearce is an honest, compassionate young man. I doubt there’s antisemitic intent in his heart. But if he’s fallen into the unthinking, virtue-signalling ‘river to the sea’ rhetoric — he needs to be educated on it, tout de suite.

They said they haven’t numerous times.

Btw I would put anyone endorsing Israel’s “actions” in the Middle East in the same “despicable” basket.

Mind you the people upset with this would without a doubt be crying the same shit if he shared the words from any other person/group. They're not upset because he shared a Kneecap post. They're upset because he's anti-genocide.

And he's also not the first or only current player to like pro-palestinian posts. If they're accusing him of being a terrorist sympathizer they would absolutely lose their minds at the posts a certain Sydney player was liking.

What did Hezbollah do?

Well done for speaking out Alex Pearce and I'm glad JLo wasn't bullied into making a comment.

The Jewish community need to recognise that people will speak out against a genocide. They're not entitled to silence people and I hope Alex Pearce gets support from Fremantle and the AFL to express his human emotions.

The fact Caro thinks the AFL should intervene with a penalty is real Black Mirror material. He caused “significant offence to the Jewish community”. I can only presume that was because they didn’t know that Isreal had murdered that many civilians.

Alex Pearce is a role model. There was nothing he said that isn’t backed up by Amnesty international and the International Criminal Court.

I'm sure the AFL Jewish community, like the Australian Jewish community at large, do not want to be held responsible for the actions of Israel and the IDF. And they shouldn't be, because they are not the same as Israel.

But then why do they turn around and express their disappointment in someone sharing a criticism of Israel? Since they're not the same, it isn't an attack on them personally. It sounds like they just want to silence Pearce and anyone else criticising Israel by choosing to take it as an affront to themselves.

What did Hezbollah do?
Been defending themselves against Israel. It's anti-semitic to do anything other than watch the bombs fall and say "thank you, mastah, may I please have another".

I'm very sick of people being "offended" by free speech, but not offended by Genocide. I might go into the Holocaust museum and complain about the portrayal of Germans and see how well that goes down.

We can leave out the defence of Hamas and Hezbollah, thanks.

The point of this thread is that support for Palestine and the opposition of Israel’s genocide does not equal support for the above.

I agree that opposing genocide is not the same as supporting Hezbollah or Hamas. And I don't support either. But I consider support of Israel to be the same as support of Hamas or Hezbollah. Pearce didn't say anything anywhere near that.

But you can say you support Israel without ramification despite them undertaking a genocide far worse than anything Hamas or Hezbollah have ever done.
