Did anyone have a look at the video on the club website. Great that they get the opportunity to do this in their free time. It's quite a pricey hobby so I spose they're in the right job for it.

Not sure I like our two best defenders in the one plane at once, maybe stagger it so 30% of our backline doesnt get wiped out at once haha!

A couple of dodgy looking landings there.

Good on 'em. It's a great thing to be doing, and something out of the norm of a normal office job. Becoming a pilot was my dream job, but because of my asthma, and the medications I am on, it disqualifies me from getting any further than having a Student Pilot's license.

Good to see the boys enjoying it, though. It really is an amazing experience to be flying a plane.

And as my Tafe Instructor used to say, any safe landing is a good landing. :thumbsu:

Did the same. Learned to fly but combination of eyes and meds killed me off. Saw some greats parts of Australia such as Birdsville, William Creek, Maree, Lord Howe Island, Norfolk Island and NZ top to bottom. Very rewarding when physics was not my strong point. Always had to plan well and manage risk, which is my day job.

Miss it terribly, but am now on a big plane every week just about and I pay close attention to the thrust and trim!

The boys will find flying rewarding and focusses the mind! Good for defenders!

It really is rewarding. Just seeing things you don't/can't in a car.

I think it will benefit both, as you really have to focus, and concentration is paramount in flying, both which are important as defender's, so even when they aren't on a football field, or training, they are still developing skills outside they can directly transfer onto the park.

Oh god! Saw the video and calm and collected Grimes can fly all he wants....as for the Tross...well he is great and does well MOST of the time but well...Tross can be quite the goofy cat at times and I don't at all like the idea of him flying!

I have a friend who happens to have a very similar, goofy personality, but happens to be a surgeon at Geelong hospital. Just because they aren't serious all the time, doesn't mean they aren't when they need to be/have to be.

I'm talking about his coordination, not his ability to concentrate. The bloke has trouble standing up sometimes. He is great at what he does, don't get me wrong and I love him, it's just that he has that ability to spontaneously combust at times and trip over his own feet a bunch.

15 knot crosswind in a Piper Warrior is not easy! Lucky they weren't in a Cessna 172 with high wing.

Haere Ra

15 knots isn't easy to handle in almost every single engine aircraft. Anything more than a 12 knot crosswind at Jandakot Airport in Perth was the instructors call as to whether or not it was safe.

One thing that did unnerve me a little bit when I was flying though, until I got used to it, was Ground Effect. Very strange thing to see on the ground, but even more strange in the aircraft.

Indeed. Ground effect is really what makes Wellington a tricky airport.

As instructors always say, you'd rather be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground!

They can join the flying doctors after becoming 5 time premiership players at richmond and help bring yellow and black to the most remote parts of Australia :thumbsu:
