Re: Alien v Predator

LOL! Sniper Elite wasn't THAT good :D.

Can't wait for this game. I actually want Alien: Colonial Marines more than this.

I thought it was, it was a fantastic game, which I recently sold on Ebay for $80 due to it being hard to get :D

Re: Alien v Predator

Well lets just say the game was a challenge :D. Nice work on the $80.

This game lets you play as either a Marine, Alien or Predator. All three characters stories join together so there's three times the replayability.

IGN Pre-E3 first look at Aliens Vs Predator.

Aliens Vs Predator
Ten years ago, Rebellion surprised PC gamers with a stellar first-person shooter based on the Alien and Predator franchises. Rebellion spent the next decade making a string of mediocre shooters that paled in comparison to its most notable work. But the UK developer is hoping to reclaim some of its notoriety with a return to the franchise that put them on the map. Along with SEGA, Rebellion is "rebooting" Aliens vs. Predator for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

The basic concept remains the same. Aliens, a Predator and a number of Colonial Marines are mixing it up and you have the opportunity to play as each faction. This time around, there is a strict linear story which plays out Call of Duty style, switching between perspectives after each level. One of the Predator's holy temples has been defiled by the Marines, who in turn have accidentally awakened the ancient Alien Queen living in it bowels. The first batch of "junior" predators storm in and get slaughtered by the Aliens. And thus, one of the elite alien-hunting Predators is sent in to clean up the mess.

We were shown a level from the Predator portion of the campaign, with a promise of an unveiling of the Colonial Marines at E3. The Predator is a bad ass killing machine. He's also one ugly mofo. But despite being armed to the teeth and the greatest hunting species in the galaxy, he's not invincible. In fact, very quickly you'll learn that the Predator is a hunter, not a commando -- you can't run headlong into situations and expect to live. The Predator wins by dividing his enemy and using stealth to catch them unaware. That's not to say the Predator can't survive a direct tussle, but he's best served when played to his strengths.

Though we haven't seen how the Aliens or Colonial Marines play, it's hard to imagine either will stack up to the Predator in terms of pure enjoyment. After all, the Predator has a ton of cool toys to play with and some gnarly dreads to boot.

The Predator has several visual modes including infrared and alien vision (which highlights Aliens trying to hide in the jungle), but the most useful is his Focus Mode. In this visual mode, the Predator gets all of his necessary information about his surroundings and his prey. Objectives and important items are highlighted in red and landing points are also shown. If a jump is going to make a loud noise, the landing point icon pulses. You can make the leap if you wish, but the noise could attract attention. And as we stated earlier, you're not going to survive if you're careless.

Re: Alien v Predator

I really hope they can pull this off and make it an awesome game.

I have Predator: Concrete Jungle on xbox and it is pretty ordinary, great concept, weapons are cool, but the controls are god awful and ruin the game.

Concrete Jungle was a cool concept, but agree the controls were horrendous

Pretty fun running round as the Predator though

Re: Alien v Predator

If it's half as good as AvP2 on the PC we are in for a treat. I think i read it's going to be along simular lines with 3 different campaigns (marine, predator and alien), i hope they can capture the same sort of atmosphere that game had. Marine campaign was scary as ****.

Re: Alien v Predator

They should remake the old AVP from arcade:

Got to wonder how many games have been built using that engine: TMNT, The Simpsons arcade, that fighting game with Haggar (forgot the title). Must be a few of them.

And I want to play that one :thumbsu:

Final Fight. :thumbsu: Brilliant game too. Used to play it every week at the arcades on a Friday. Forget the names of the other 2 characters though, think Cody was one?

Re: Alien v Predator

No surprised, refused classification.

Looks like it's imports all round

http://games.on.net/article/7567/Alien_vs_Predator_Refused_Classifaction_in_Australia

http://www.myfrag.com.au/NewsDetail.aspx?id=525

From the second article:

In a recent press conference the Alien vs Predator devs stated that they are definitely not making any edited versions for strict countries,
because it takes away from the feel of the game and ultimately ruins gameplay.

I must say, after seeing footage of the game, I can't say I'm surprised it has been RC'd (not agree with, just not surprised).

Footage showed the person playing as a Predator and ripping the head off a colonial marine.

UK import it is (or Asia if R/F)

Re: Alien v Predator

Ant, can you add "- Refused Classification" in the title?

I was really looking forward to this game, I thought SEGA (or whoever is developing it) said that it won't get banned in Australia? Maybe that was Alien: Colonial Marines?

Doesn't matter, importing.

Re: Alien v Predator

Thanks Ant.

Here's the reason why:

The game contains violence that is high in impact and is therefore unsuitable for persons aged under 18 years to play.

The game contains first-person perspective, close-up depictions of human characters being subjected to various types of violence, including explicit decapitation and dismemberment as well as locational damage such as stabbing through the chest, throat, mouth or eyes. Characters can be stabbed with a Predator's wrist blade or an Alien's tail in depictions reminiscent of impalement.

The Predator collects "trophies" by explicitly ripping off human heads, their spinal columns dangling from severed necks. Heads can be twisted completely around in order to break a character's neck. Eyes can be stabbed through or gouged, leaving empty, bloodied eye sockets. It increases impact; for example, a Predator can stab a character through both eyes with its wrist blade and then rip off their head, the spinal column still attached. Extensive post mortem damage, including decapitation and dismemberment, is also possilbe.

Depictions of violence such as the above are accompanied by copious amounts of blood and gore, including ample wound detail and visible skeleton.

In the opinion of the Board, the violence in the game causes a high playing impact due to its first-person, close-up perspective, conceptual nature and the level of explicit detail involved in the depictions. The game is therfore unsuitable for a minor to see or play and should be refused classification.

So they think children are going to go all predator, stabbing people in the eyes and chest and collecting their heads as trophies?

Definitely disappointing but to be expected nowadays.

Sucks that it would now seem we won't see the game ever released here. Until an R18+ rating.

PlayAsia it is then.

whats the shipping to Aus on eStarland Kerrbs?
It's more expensive than standard shiping on PlayAsia but I'm pretty sure that it's UPS on eStarLand.

It's around $7 for postage I think but 90% of the time it still works out cheaper buying from eStarLand.

eStarland is usually cheaper than Play Asia.
Can't say I've heard of them...are they any good? I mean I'd rather a site I know and have had great experiences with than something I don't to save a couple of bucks.

God damnit! It's even worse when the detailed descriptions they provide for banning the game just make it sound even cooler.
