In a way it's a bit of both, but it's more against Atkinson's point as it proves that under 18 year olds can still get the game regardless of it being banned. Whereas you would think it would become a fair bit harder for under 18 year olds to get an R18+ game in Australia considering you'd need ID. Not saying that it couldn't potentially happen, but for one, I don't see a lot of parents buying kids an R18+ game and if the ID process is done in the way that EB does it for trading games then you wouldn't see many getting into the hands of under 18's.

Ive never imported a game for 360 and this will be my first thanks to our draconian laws and standards.

However for those who have purchased/imported banned games from the likes of playasia, is it all cool?? do I have to "modify" the xbox360 or will it play out of the box??

Apart from all of this RC nonsense I have to wonder now how good this game might actually be.

After watching this hilarious video of the arse game that is Rogue Warrior (thanks Kerrby). I realised that the developer of Rogue Warrior is also the developer of AvP. So I decided to have a little look at the history of Rebellion and so far it's been just shithouse.

Their 2 next-gen games so far are Shellshock 2: Blood Trails (a game banned here) and obviously Rogue Warrior. Neither of which have been received with any sort of praise.

Shellshock 2 has a metacritic rating of 40, 30, 35 respectively over 3 different platforms and Rogue Warrior is 31, 30, 25 respectively over 3 different platforms.

Nothing of their previous gen platform games has really garnered much respect either with their best title probably being Rogue Trooper (71 and 69 metacritically over 3 platforms) and AFAIK they didn't actually develop the original AvP's, just ported them.

If there's anything we've learnt from all this time of gaming it's that generally speaking poor devs don't suddenly turn into master game makers in the space of one game and after Rebellion's last effort being considered one of the worst titles this gen can we really expect AvP to suddenly turn the fortunes of this developer around?

It's starting to sound like it will turn out to be similar to the movie (ie - a piece of shit).

I watched Aliens on Saturday night and nothing that has come after it has been any good.

This game freaked me out when I was kid:

the makers of arkham asylum hadnt done anything decent before that and they won studio of the year
Their previous title wasn't considered one of the worst games of it's gen though.

The few things that Rebellion haven't seemed to be able to nail yet are AI and exciting gunfights, plus their gameplay is just drab.

Rebellion did develop the original AvP which is a very highly regarded title

They also developed Sniper Elite - which is 77 (xbox) 76 (PS2 and PC) on metacritic - and which I personally find to be a very underrated title.

Shellshock is not as bad as made out - although I'll admit it isn't fantastic

I have faith AvP will be very very good....just look at the videos, they alone look amazing

Yeah Alien3 is a piece of shit too. Enjoyed it when it first come out though. But have you seen the Directors cut and the cinema version? 2 completely different movies almost. lol

Oh ok, I couldn't find any real solid info on that. I knew the title was very highly regarded, just couldn't find out who actually developed the first as Monolith developed the 2nd. Which is a strange move when the first does so well, to change dev.

Look, I'm not saying that AvP is going to be a dud right now. I guess it was just me doing some thinking and after looking at that GiantBomb video of Rogue Warrior (Which just looks so incredibly horrible it's really not funny, although the vid is:p) and that will be the last title that Rebellion have put out before AvP. I guess I was just wondering how you go from "One of the worst title's this gen" to "Fantastic title". Especially after there have been serious issues such as AWFUL AI, poor and dull graphics and boring gameplay in their most recent titles this gen. A really underrated thing with devs, it is a BIG step up from previous gen to this gen and sometimes the devs that may just not have 'it' right now can get left behind. Just look at Free Radical and not even they got lambasted as much as Rebellion's last 2 games have, not to mention Haze sold extremely well in comparison (Shellshock 2 sold just on 100,000 units over 2 platforms to Haze's 800,000 on 1 platform).

Maybe there were certain circumstances with Rogue Warrior and Shellshock 2 that just didn't allow Rebellion to make a game to their own potential, who knows. If you ask me a concept like Shellshock 2 would be just about impossible to **** up as it is...

Don't get me wrong. I do think that so far AvP does look good and I am looking forward to it (and the RC non-rating does seem to stick to the Predator rating of R18+, so hopefully there is fair grounding there). But there are still quite a few questions that I would like to ask now that I've realised the previous titles and deficiencies that Rebellion have had this gen. Especially before I decide to import this game.

We can only hope that Shellshock 2 and Rogue Warrior were just the testing ground for Rebellion to really get used to all platforms nuances and build what will be their marquee title.

I guess all I was really pointing out is that if this is a dud, we know why.

I don't know how these things work overall to be honest, but perhaps they (SS2 and Rogue Warrior) were pumped out by different teams within Rebellion and flicked out quickly for a minor income stream to help fund AvP?

AvP could be a lemon, it wouldn't be the first hyped game that turned into a dud.

I think it looks pretty good so far, plus I love all things alien and predator.

And SS2 was not great, but not as horrid as people make out.

Haven't played RW but I've heard it's pretty terrible and only 2 hours long with no MP

So...I don't get it. Did they suddenly decide that the violence wasn't that bad?

**** this confusing OFLC.

Great news, but confusing as **** as to why it gets turned around but L4D2 still didn't.
