Whilst I think it's always better to have a team of even contributors than to rely on a few stars, it's nice to see players get recognition for outstanding seasons, particularly defenders whose performances often go unnoticed.

That said, we probably don't have many players pushing for AA at the moment (despite being top of the ladder), but here are the players who I think could make it this year (in order of most to least likely).

Waters - Has been awesome this year. Would probably be on the back flank/pocket in most people's teams to date. If he stays fit then he is probably our best chance at this stage.

Cox - Has been good but not as dominant as we've seen. The ruck spot is wide open at the moment and a big second half of the season could see him get an incredible sixth! AA selection.

Glass - Rarely beaten, not sure if he takes the best forwards often enough though.

Naitanui - At this stage probably not in contention, but I feel he might put in some dominant performances in the next few rounds to put his name up there.

Hill - If he keeps kicking goals will be hard to ignore.

S. Selwood - Midfield spots are incredibly competitive, he would need to step it up another level IMO.

Kerr, Shuey, Schofield, Mckenzie have all been outstanding at times but probably not often enough.

Priddis and Hurn have been consistent but not damaging enough.

If Waters misses a few games with injuries, it's very possible we could finish top 4 and have no one in the team!

Waters, Glass and Cox the only 3 for mine. Waters and Glass deserve it on merit, Cox hasn't been the best ruckman but they love voting for him.

Scott Selwood deserves it so far, but midfield spots are too hotly contested. Bit early but I'd say it'll be those 3 only.

Cox and glass would be in line for a gig. Scooter deserves to be up there.

Waters, Glass and Cox the only 3 for mine.

My thoughts exactly. Glass is a lock for the FB position if he keeps going the way he is. Waters the same.

Cox will get the nod i think simply due to the versatility hes showing this season.

I can't see S Selwood being in front of the likes of Pendlebury, J Selwood, Boyd, Stanton, Ablett, Dangerfield in the midfield, but they may place him on the HFF. He's been good enough to date, but a long way to go yet.
Hill has been fantastic, surpassed any expectations I had of him.
Waters, if current form continues injury free, will definitely claim a spot at HB.

Waters would be in the side ATM

Glass has been playing great football - but MacKenzie always gets the opposition's best forward

Cox and NicNat are hindered by both playing in the same team. Both have had great years but Maric and Jacobs are probably ahead of them due to shouldering more of the load

Waters and Glass have to be in so far.

As much as I've loved Scott Selwoods work there are just too many great mids.

Naitanui if he had played consistently like he did before his injury maybe but would need to have a huge rest of the year to be considered. I don't think they'll go with Cox; so much time forward hurting his chances despite the fact he is doing a great job.

Hill is interesting - I hadn't thought about him but if they put a medium forward in is there anyone better so far?

Waters and Glass for my liking. Both have been really solid and Waters playing some of his best football.

As of right now Waters and Glass are locks. Can also see one of Naitanui or Cox squeezing into the side.

Not sure on Scotty Selwood, last year there was 11 mids named and if that trend continues you'd expect Watson,Stanton,Pendlebury,Sidebottom,Dangerfield,Cotchin,Kennedy,Ablett,
Hayes,Deledio and probably Joel Selwood are ahead at this stage.

Actually looking at that list, hes probably on par with a few so he might be a chance... who knows.

hard to see scooter getting in the midfield... it's just such a competitive area for obvious reasons... was top ten in the competition imo not long ago for the 2012 but not so anymore... still top 20. that's not high enough to earn your first AA guernsey in a midfield role really...

glass has gotta be a shoe-in right now down back. has been awesome.

i reckon ivan maric has been the best ruckmen so far this year but he hasn't been so awesome that he'll displace cox, who has been good but not great... no ruckmen has really stood up to take cox's spot at this stage.

Cox will get AA with Jacobs as back up I reckon.

Glass, Waters, Cox, Naitanui imho. If Hill keeps his goal rate he'll get a look in, but can't say anyone else is consistently at that level.

honestly,
probably only glassy at FB

cox next closest.

anybody else isnt in at this point,
dont forget about le cras a few years ago.

AA panel usually awards repeat players,
rarely see a player pop up and get an AA first real crack

Probably nobody

Cox, Glass, Waters, +/- Naitanui should make the squad though
S.Selwood and Hill deserve squad consideration, but won't make it

Cox starting ruck with Jacobs/Maric on the bench though if Jacobs starts it will be Cox on the bench
Glass FB
Waters on the flank or pocket
Hurn hasnt been at his best though id say they would have him in the squad and a strong second half of the season he'll get in.

Our backline has been immaculate and Im thinking Schofield is a chance for the squad and so is Mackenzie. Im not to sure who else has been in form at CHB in the competition so he is definitely a chance. He has had a MEGA year and his improvement has been out of this world (this and last year)

Waters so far has to be a cert, Glass should be very close to a lock being a seasoned vet that everyone rates highly.
Coxy should be close but other pure rucks like Jacob's and Maric have some damn good stats as they don't have a true back up/2nd ruck option taking them away.
Scooter will come close with Swan and Pendle's on the sidelines for an unknown amount of time but depends on the second half of the season as to whether or not he is overshadowed by Priddis, Shoo or Kerr.
