Here are my thoughts on which players will be in contention for AA honours this year:

Certainties:
Riewoldt
Goddard

Probably:
Hayes
Montagna
Gilbert

Maybe:
Dal Santo
Fisher

Others who wont get in, but will be discussed:
Milne
Gardiner

Thoughts ?

I don't think Goddard is a certainty. Swap him and Gilbert (as long as Plug doesn't miss too many more games).

If Milney didnt get AA last year, he wont get it this year...

And Gardi woulda been a certainty, and should be if he comes back and dominates the last 4 games.

move dal santo and montagna up a category each and BJ down one and you're spot on imo.

gardiner is a fair way off it.

No interest in AA since Tuna missed out to Egan after a rippin season.

Wouldn't think he would be close this year, as his season has been solid rather than spectacular.

is he even in the leadership group down at geelong?

Probably not, means little for the AA selectors though, he's probably going be the flashiest person in there so they'll figure why not in the end and give him a consolation prize. After all Rooey is just sooky la la remember?

goddard will be selected on the bench as he plays several positions on the field.
montagne and dal will be on the wings
roo and CHF
i think milne deserves the forward pocket role
fisher should be CHB, i cant think of anyone else who has played better than him
gilbert is a chance at HBF
Hayes is also a chance but there are other midfielders which have played well (abblett, judd, boyd, black)

Riewoldt, Dal santo, Hayes, Montagna and Goddard. All definites.

Gilbert would be, but injuries have kept him out a couple, and he players never make AA in their first breakout season, it generally takes them 2 or 3 to be well noticed.

Fisher could be 50/50. Bock is the obvious choice, and whilst Fisher has had a down year by normal standards, his still been in AA form.

Milne, not enough goals.. To inconsistent.

Riewoldt is a certainty and should be AA captain, his leadership has been outstanding this year. I can't see anyone else more deserving of it, although it wouldn't surprise me if the AFL's lovechild Judd gets it again.

Montagna, Goddard, Dal Santo, Hayes and Gilbert would all have to be good chances. Fisher hasn't had as good a year as last year but may still get in on reputation, whilst Gardiner probably hasn't played enough games.

Despite having a pretty good year, I can't see Milney getting in there either, as he isn't the fashionable type of player that the selectors normally go for.

Roo should have been captain last year. But Harley got it so if they use that best team's captain it's roo all the way.

As usual, Plugger you are the voice of reason.

Rooey, Joey, Goddard and Gilbo are as close to certainties as possible. dal is a very good chance, and Lenny is a good chance.

milney - no
fish - no (although, i don't know who will get the nod for CHB?)
gardi - no

IMO Goddard, Riewoldt, Hayes and Montagna are the certainties. It would be a joke if none of them make the team. Gilbert is a certainty from a playing point of view but because of the '2 year rule' the selectors probably won't pick him. Fisher and Dal Santo are likely to be picked but not certainties yet. I agree Fisher was much better last year but because no one else has stood out at CHB he could fall into the team. Unless they put one of Lake or Scarlett at CHB he should grab it because I don't think Bock, Bolton or Tarrant have been any better than Fisher. Gardiner is well behind Sandilands, Jolly, McIntosh and Clark. Milne might sneak a squad spot but I doubt it.

Having had the best defence in the league by a LARGE margin, i don't understand how come so much people think none of our defenders is a lock in for the AA selectors...

I would bet that at least 1 or 2 of them will be in the AA team.

Roo (C), Montagna, Goddard, Gilbert and Ross Lyon are certainties. (They do select a coach dont they?)
Dal Santo and Hayes would have to get a gig.
What about Zac Dawson seems to have shut down pretty much every player he's played on.

Dont reckon Gardiner would come into contention since he would be up against McIntosh, Ryder, Sandilands, Jolly, Clark

For mine Reiwoldt, Goddard, Montagna are absolute definates. Pen them in, don't bring the white-out.

Hayes, Dal Santo and Gilbert probables.

Fisher a possible - from my understanding he's played more as an out-and-out defender with less rebound work than he has in the last couple of years, which might count against him, as he's likely to be competing against Scarlett, Lake, Tarrent, Presti, etc

Milne I suspect will struggle to get a gig with the likes of Davis, Rioli, Betts, Chapman, Steve Johnson, etc all floating around in contention. Has had a very good season though, and can't be judged just on goals. His defensive work has increased substantially.

Gardiner won't get a gig, Sandilands, McIntosh, Clark, Ryder and Jolly

To whoever asked does the AA team pick a tagger - no, not unless the tagger has earnt his stripes as an exceptional midfielder in the same time. Ling and Kane Cornes are the only two likely to do this at the moment, or possibly Sewell (though I doubt it).
